After it was done, we were disappointed but don't know why. We wanted a vintage rustic look and the kitchen now looks horrible. Help the tiles were so expensive and we also didn't know we had to seal the bricks before grout so a lot of imperfections are showing up. A: Unfortunately there's not much that can be done about the grout line size, however there are remedies for the colour! I would recommend colour-matching the grout to a softer grey using a grout restoration company. There are a few good ones in the city we live in; I assume that if you live in a larger centre there are likely a few in your area as well. These companies specialize in re-sealing grout, but in some cases they will change the colour entirely using specialized products. The process is relatively inexpensive and non-invasive, but best left to the pros. Scratching out your current gout and re-grouting yourself is going to be far more trouble than it's worth. I do agree that the space could use some colour and accessories. I love the idea of hanging a large painting over the wall. Go bold! This is the Argenteuil hood in upgraded polished bottocino. **Q: Tiles** *(in Photo Questions)* Please answer the question about the various tiles used in this bathroom. I love the use of the different tiles and how they were combined. Could you give the names and manufacturer of all the tiles, floors and walls as well as counter tops. It looks like Carrara marble. This is really a beautiful bathroom very unique use of tiles. A: Often times when dealing with natural stones we will request lot photos from the various suppliers to ensure consistency in colour and veining for our clients. This quality control often comes at a premium and is not the same as purchasing a stocked 3x6 from a local distributor. That being said Carrara marble tends to have consistent colouration in comparison with other more dramatic stones like Calacatta Gold, so is a safer bet when looking for less expensive stocked items. Request samples and lot photos if possible even if it is a stocked material. The samples in the showroom may be from 3 years ago and the lots can change drastically in that time. Also make sure to ask for a couple different samples from various crates of the lot they have in order to ensure you understand the full variation you can expect from their current stock. The variation in natural stone is what makes it such a beautiful, and dangerous material to work with. **Q: Who makes the tile that is in the backsplash?** *(in Photo Questions)* A: the tile is made by sonoma tilemakers **Q: Glass tile verses pool glass tile?** *(in Design Dilemma)* Can any glass tile be used in waterline of pool ( Southern California) or just specific "pool "glass tile? One person said to use no mesh backing for best adhesion but any glass can be used. Another said pool glass tile is a must. I seen same tile in pool store as in big box store, but $15 difference in price . A: I second the comments made by Marin Designworks Glass Tile Design & Waterjet Art. You will need to use a tape-faced or paper-faced (NOT mesh-mounted) mosaic. The reason for this is that over time the water/chemicals in the pool will slowly separate the mesh backing from the glass. There is not enough adhesion of the mortar to the tile with a mesh backing. This general rule can be applied to showers and other wet areas as well. When in doubt ask for a spec sheet, any good supplier will be able to provide you with a document from the manufacturer that will specify which applications the product is suitable for. **Q: What is the color and type of countertop?
