Built in 1922 it had everything we were looking for but my main requirement was that it was "old". I had visions of restoring it to its glory days! I had carried around a file titled "Old House" for years with pictures of ideas and furniture that I knew I wanted to incorporate into our house. We were only going to redo one bathroom, well maybe two. But as we admired our beautiful old girl, we knew she was worthy of an entire renovation. We had a few rules: update but respect the period in which she was built. And we had to keep the original floors and windows! I needed a decorator/designer who could incorporate my ideas and dreams, in a very tight timeframe, without it losing our ideas and influence. I interviewed several: some could not work within the timeframe, one thought I was too strong-willed and bossy, one didn't think I knew what I was doing. Kelly Johnson said "When do we get started?". It was a fabulous project and experience and became a wonderful friendship. She reined me in when I wanted too much glitz and had just as much respect for the house as I did. It was a perfect match! And it is, no doubt, the prettiest house in Saint Louis/Clayton area. After all, we have couples who leave their picture, name and number several times a month with a letter that says, "if you ever think of selling your house, please call us."
