**Q: Where can I find those topiaries?  So beautiful!** *(in Photo Questions)*

A: Homeowner already had those.  Don't know where they came from.  Sorry!

**Q: Where can I find the pillow effect subway tiles? I love them.** *(in Photo Questions)*

A: Don't those tiles just have the most "welcoming" feeling to them?  Unfortunately the manufacturer no longer makes them.  It seems like the trend has gone toward beveled tiles or flat tiles instead of pillowed tiles.  Most of the pillowed tiles I find now are much flatter than the ones I used for this project.  Sorry that I couldn't give you better news.  It's frustrating that styles change so quickly and that gorgeous products get discontinued.  I hope you are able to find a tile that you love. **Q: How was the rod mounted?** *(in Photo Questions)*

I'd like to do something similar, and I'm wondering if I need to drill holes or if I could find adhesive that would work.

A: I believe it was both screwed and glued.  It will probably depend on what exactly you're attaching it to - stone, plywood subtop, etc.

**Q: Hallway tiling - layout question** *(in Design Dilemma)*

Hello
I have square 16" tiles. The hallway is 60" wide.
Question - do I Center a tile in the middle and work out so I have cut outs on both sides or do I work from one side so there is only one column of cut outs?

A: You have several choices:
Center a grout joint in the space
Center a tile in the space
Center a grout joint or a tile in the doorway.
These decisions depend on what other openings come into the space.  Sometimes uneven cuts work because of how the tile connects to other areas.
You also need to consider what type of pattern you are laying.
Experienced tile setters and designers often measure and mark all of the options to see what's best before proceeding.
Lay it out first and you'll be sure to love your result!

**Q: Kitchen backsplash question** *(in Design Dilemma)*

The granite on our countertops goes up the wall a few inches and there isn't another backsplash. I would like to remove this backsplash and install a tile backsplash that goes all the way down to the countertop. Does anyone know if I can have that piece removed without ruining the countertops? Is it even worth it? Thanks!

A: You may be able to remove the backsplash without damaging the counter.  It depends on the adhesives used and the skill of the person removing it.  I'd say it's worth trying.  You have a beautiful granite and you could create a great look by using the backsplash as your "artists canvas".  So many materials will look fantastic with your countertop - how exciting!  Changing the backsplash could make the entire room look different.

**Q: Help with flooring please!** *(in Design Dilemma)*

We are building and need help with flooring.  We like the cabinet colour (the dark one on top), but don't know which flooring to pick.  One is walnut one is maple is there much of a difference?? Any help is much appreciated!

A: Your cabinet doors are going to have a lot of grain color variation since the sample says the door is hickory.   You may want a calm looking floor to balance out the busy hickory coloring.

Maple wood turns naturally yellow-gold underneath whatever stain you put on it and tends to be one color.  Most walnut has a grayish tone but some species of walnut have a warmer tone.  Walnut can be busy looking or calm depending on the particular species.

It's hard to tell from your picture what underlying color tone is for the cabinet door. The underlying tone of your cabinets will help you decide which floor to pick.  

Hickory cabinets could look fine with either wood but that depends on everything from underlying color tones to board widths (the size of the floor boards affect their appearance).
