> Shin-boku provides an excellent array of trees displayed in a beautiful Japanese garden. The adjoining nursery houses fantastic examples of the art of Japanese tree pruning. This nursery has been in existence for 40 years and the owner, Palmer Koelb, is a welcoming host and an wealth of information about the process, specific trees, and establishing your own Japanese garden. His trees are a wonderful addition to any garden aspiring to contain beauty, art and serenity all in perfect combination. His nursery and stroll garden are "must sees".

> The Japanese stroll garden created by Palmer Koelb and Shin-boku nursery for our new home is an outstanding example of creating an evironment of peace and tranquility within a suburban type community.  Starting in 2012 with a basic design, Palmer selected two outstanding examples of Japanese specimen trees from his collection at Shin-boku nursery as a focal point for the stroll garden.  Over the past two years, Palmer has developed the original concept into a more mature stroll garden by adding additional native stones and trees.  Now my wife and I can enjoy the beauty of a Sukiya-style garden during all four seasons from many vantage points inside our home.  Because of my long-standing interest in Japanese gardens, I have also participated in the annual pruning workshop held at Shin-boku nursery.  By gaining experience in actually purning a variety of specimen trees at the nursery, I've gained a greater appreciation of the nuances of the many elements of a Japanese style of garden. In summary, the work by Palmer Koelb and Shin-boku nursery has exceeded my expectations not only in meeting the budget, client relations, time to completion, but in transforming a small part of the New Hampshire landscape into a serene Japanese style garden.

## Community Q&A

**Q: what stone is it -black on floor?** *(in Photo Questions)*

A: This is an oil bearing shale. It can sometimes be slippery when wet or with a thin layer of ice.  The Garden was watered prior to the camera shoot.  Thanks, Palmer

**Q: what type of tree is the bonsai?** *(in Photo Questions)*

A: The tree is a Wateri Scotts Pine.  Probably 30 years old in the picture.  The bark was polished a year or two before the photo. Not hardy in the south. It's not a Bonsai but a smaller full sized tree, pruned in an Asian style. See shin-bokunursery.com     Best,

Beautiful tree,what kind please?

A: This tree is a Watereri Scotts Pine. Propagated around 1980, it thrives in Central NH.  If not heavily pruned the trunk and branches would not be visible.    Glad you like it.
