> I am pleased to offer the absolute highest recommendation for the artistry of Beth Covert of Covert-Wilkins Studio. We're a builder of fine custom homes and have had the pleasure of working with Beth for over 20 years. She has provided her superb craftsmanship and fine attention to detail on many of our custom homes and the clients have been nothing less than delighted with her extreme talent. Beth has done extensive work in my own home (as well as for countless customers over the years) and I would highly recommend her to anyone seeking the finest in artistry for their own home. Her many talents are complimented by her sunny disposition and imagination.

**★★★★★ — RCI Interior Design, Dec. 2013**

> I love working with Beth! I am an interior designer, and I can always count on Beth to be professional, timely and super creative. I have known Beth for about 10 years and we have done several different projects over the years, I am always pleased, but better yet, the clients are always thrilled as well! I highly recommend working with Beth.

> Beth did several projects in our home over the past few years and we couldn't be happier with her work. She faux painted our entire living space, striped our home office to perfection and created a Caribbean paradise in our entire basement. We continually receive compliments from guest who find the projects, especially the basement, simply amazing.
> We would highly recommend her for any project, as she is very creative and finishes in a very timely manner.

> The artwork done by Beth Covert for our new home is absolutely beautiful! She painted the master bedroom vaulted ceiling to look like clouds! Needless to say, when one looks up, it is as if the roof has opened up and the sky surrounds the room! In another bedroom, she designed a large white tree where two walls meet...the branches spread out over the two adjoining walls and it is truly the focal point of the entire room! The plan is to hang photos of the grandchildren on the "tree". Beth has a style and sense of what her clients want and she does it with flair!

## Community Q&A

**Q: Need help with raising microwave vs nice vent hood** *(in Design Dilemma)*

We recently bought a house that needs kitchen updating. The first problem though we need to deal with is the previous owner took out the fan above the cooktop and installed a microwave that's too low. There is only 11" of clearance in between. So, we can either pay to get the microwave raised and the cabinetry altered ($500 quote) or we are considering putting in a nice vent hood and taking out that upper cabinet altogether. Problem is we have 9' ceilings and the cabinetry doesn't extend to the ceiling. So would this look goofy having a vent hood from ceiling? Or do you think it would help improve the look of the kitchen?

A: I would move the microwave to the counter if for no other reason than safety. Pulling bowls of hot food out and the potential to spill, slop or loose ones grip, is such a burn hazard...especially for elderly and kids.

**Q: Backsplash and island counter ideas need** *(in Design Dilemma)*

hi everyone, please help me find backsplash that would look great with this granite. I dont love this granite, but cant afford to change it. my kitchen is white (BM Simply White color) and I would like to get a light stone counter on my island (to contrast this dark granite) because this granite is so busy worth beige/orange warm tones, it's hard for me to pick a backsplash tile and island stone. For is white tile. thank you so much.

A: Wilsonart Formica makes some really nice metallic sheet goods. I did my backsplash in a brushed stainless. Wipes clean with a dishcloth, doesn't spot like real SS, a fraction of the cost, and looks clean and contemporary.

**Q: POLL: Do you have fruit trees?** *(in Polls)*

I always wanted a yard with fruit trees in it. Though we lost a gorgeous orange tree we had a few years ago, we've still got a Meyer Lemon and a multi variety apple tree. How about you?
VOTE and tell us about it in the comments!

A: Not yet, but in the plans. We are under construction moving from Ohio to high desert Oregon. I will need to research what is possible there.

**Q: Hi what are the dimensions and price of the painted chair** *(in Photo Questions)*

Love your items - Nanette

A: Hi Nanette, and thank you.
All the chairs have sold, usually for around $395-$495. The only one I still have is my most recent, a childs "Cow Jumped Over the Moon" chair for $250. I will only be working on commissioned items for a while, as we are planning on moving and I don't want a lot of inventory to move.
If I can help you with a commissioned piece, let me know.

**Q: This or That - New Construction vs. Century Club?** *(in Polls)*

All things being equal in terms of cost, location, size, etc, would you rather have brand new construction, or a 100 year old home?
VOTE and tell us about it in the comments! (photos encouraged)

A: As much as I love old homes, it's time for new construction for us. My last two homes have been 90 and 130 years old. I loved them both, but the upkeep, the stairs, the plumbing, the painting....it's time for new. I will miss some of the craftsmanship and details, but fortunately, we are going rustic with the new place, so posts and beams will do nicely.

**Q: Where did the wall sticker/mural come from?** *(in Photo Questions)*

A: I hand painted everything you see on the wall.
