D06 is the entrance to the kitchen and we'll be coming into the house through D01. We think we want pantry storage along the long wall and then use the space along W03 as the mudroom area (bench, shoe storage, coat hooks, etc.). SO should we have D01 swing open to the right when walking in (opposite of the swing shown) so the bench is actually convenient? Would that conflict too much with the other door or even be a pain when all four of us enter? It feels like we're struggling between the flow of the space when entering with two small kids versus the functionality of the mudroom/pantry cabinets. A: I cannot tell from the diagram you have provided but do you have a long enough wall to the left of the D6 entrance to change the interior mudroom door to a pocket door or barn style sliding door instead of a door that swings into the mudroom. Then you can swing the exterior door to the right to free up better flow to your bench and mudroom storage. If that is not an option have you considered having your outside access door swing out towards your deck area? This would only be an option if you have a deep deck where access wouldn't be hindered by the outswing.
