**★★★★★ — Kenneth Wood, May 2016**

> Nicholas Borrell of The Healing Home transformed our run-down 3-bedroom mid-century ranch into a 4-bedroom showplace.
>
> After meeting with us to establish our families’ needs and desires, he crafted a vision of a lovely, fully functional home. His decades of design and construction experience, vast knowledge of materials and finishes were evident in every aspect of our project.
>
> One of our favorite transformations is the large multi-purpose deck, which incorporates both a vaulted screened sunroom and an open area for sunning and grilling.
>
> Nicholas is pleasure to work with as both designer and contractor. He is encouraging, patient and possessing a clear, artistic vision. We enthusiastically recommend his services!

> I am here to sing the well-earned praises of Nicholas Borrell and The Healing Home.
>
> After many years as a rental property, our 1960s ranch needed an interior update and reworking, but we wanted to do it all without expanding the footprint of our house.
>
> Our focus was to take our budget and finish a smaller space with beautiful and quality finishes, while staying true to our personal commitment to small-house, small-cost living. Nicholas supported us in this vision and offered creative ideas, well-drawn plans, as well as a comprehensive list of highly skilled craftspeople and resources along the Front Range.
>
> We acted as our own general contractors, but even after the planning phase was over, Nicholas was only a phone call away to offer insight and a kind ear, as well as action, to help get our project back on track and on budget.
>
> Nicholas offers decades of on-site experience that pays off in a steady and solution-driven presence as projects test even the hardiest homeowners. It is these qualities, along with his deep commitment to balance, beauty and functional delight, that makes me grateful to recommend Nicholas Borrell and The Healing Home to anyone who dreams of a home that truly comforts and restores.
>
> Best wishes for your own projects ahead!

> Nicholas, with The Healing Home, designed and coordinated a complete demo and remodel of my basement, that was flooded by rising groundwater during heavy rains. I chose him for this project based on his extensive experience working with water damaged properties during his years on the east coast. Nicholas worked with subcontractors to create a flood prevention plan for my home. Experiencing a flood, especially one caused by nature, is a traumatic experience. Having the confidence that I could rebuild and that it wouldn't happen a second time was truly healing to me and my home. It's an aptly named business. The basement originally had a strange, chopped-up layout. It was completely transformed by The Healing Home's redesign. The end result is open and warm, a very comfortable, livable, yet high-end space. The project was completed on time and was a far easier remodel than anything I've watched friends go through.

- [A Barn in Spanish Hills, Boulder, Colorado](https://www.houzz.com/hznb/projects/a-barn-in-spanish-hills-boulder-colorado-pj-vj~1844124)
  - Location: Not specified

  - Description: I designed the 32’x42’ building with a deception of scale. Looking at it from a distance, the big doors trick the eye into thinking it is much smaller than it truly is. The wide-open interior (designed for an intended loft to be added in the future) soars above the floor. Entrance through the massive 10’x10’ oak doors and you look up 25’ to the clerestory section high above. Light fills the space. The big doors open outward with powerful swing arm closers.
- [1950's Remodel in Boulder, Colorado](https://www.houzz.com/hznb/projects/1950-s-remodel-in-boulder-colorado-pj-vj~1843797)
  - Location: Boulder, CO
  - Photos: 11
  - Description: This is a late 1950's house in Boulder in a highly desirable neighborhood. The house needed a refreshing lift of energy. I designed an addition for a new Family Room and created a more welcoming approach with new Front Entry. These simple clean changes improved the vibe of the whole house! We stripped off the old siding and added a stucco finish. I fine-tuned the color choices throughout with warm wood tones of ash and alder mixed with the colors of beach glass. Accent lighting, a new hearth, ne…
- [A Farmhouse in Louisville, Colorado](https://www.houzz.com/hznb/projects/a-farmhouse-in-louisville-colorado-pj-vj~1413828)
  - Location: Louisville, CO
  - Photos: 15
  - Description: I was engaged to help complete the design of the just-framed farmhouse on a corner lot in downtown Louisville, CO. The hard work of structural engineering, planning and zoning, excavation and foundation, framing and sheathing were complete. The superb work of Fruth Construction was well underway. But decisions were needed to move forward in the last major push to completion. What remained were the hundreds of finish decisions that make "a house a home". Addressing the details, the homeowner and…
- [Boulder Basement Renovation – Post 2013 Flood](https://www.houzz.com/hznb/projects/boulder-basement-renovation-post-2013-flood-pj-vj~1408773)
  - Location: Not specified
  - Photos: 17
  - Description: For many households, the Colorado flood of 2013 was a challenging experience. In the aftermath of the storm, this Boulder homeowner chose to fully revitalize the lower level of her home. Energetic Architecture: My immediate decision was to go for “higher, more resolved energy” using details like rounded corners, big cove-like crown moulding, clay-finished walls, and warm tones. These touches make the spaces flow into each other with purpose and integrity. Our goal was to create a sense of sanctu…
- [The Little Red Farmhouse – an Antique Renovation](https://www.houzz.com/hznb/projects/the-little-red-farmhouse-an-antique-renovation-pj-vj~633970)
  - Location: Not specified
  - Photos: 14
  - Description: This 1900's antique farmhouse, tucked on a side street in downtown Ridgefield, had very little updating over the years. The very tiny upstairs bedrooms had almost no outlets, original inoperable double hung windows, and painted subfloor. Clearly an artifact from a different era! But more space was needed so we added up, removing the family room roof and building the beautiful master suite you see in the pictures. In addition we built a shed dormer on the back of the main house roof to accommodat…
- [Lakehouse Remodel - Contemporary Style](https://www.houzz.com/hznb/projects/lakehouse-remodel-contemporary-style-pj-vj~636170)
  - Location: Not specified
  - Photos: 10
  - Description: A beloved and much-used family lake house legacy was torn down and replaced with a 4 bedroom (plus bunk room), 2.5 bath contemporary home.
- [Lake House Restoration – Cottage Style](https://www.houzz.com/hznb/projects/lake-house-restoration-cottage-style-pj-vj~581444)
  - Location: Not specified
  - Photos: 9
  - Description: This lake cottage had been a central gathering place for one family for many, many years. How many memories live inside these walls? Our goal was to update it to modern functionality while maintaining its rustic charm.
- [Porch Conversion – Boulder, CO](https://www.houzz.com/hznb/projects/porch-conversion-boulder-co-pj-vj~2376427)
  - Location: Not specified
  - Photos: 25
  - Description: I recently designed a Porch Conversion where we renovated a porch into a new breakfast room and entertainment bar. Originally the porch had been open on two sides with a deck on the top. My intent with this design was to maintain the open porch feeling and to seamlessly integrate the new room into the long and narrow kitchen. Blending the old and the new is always a satisfying challenge – matching floor and window levels, textures and colors. Wetzel Brothers Carpentry of Erie CO did the work and…
