> My experience with Les M has been less than convenient my experience was he is very unprofessional. He damaged a main power line with my barn by running a screw through this electrical cable, he took 2 days to tell me as I dealt with power outages throughout my whole property with no understanding as to why all of a sudden I was experiencing. He then phoned me at 11 pm at night to inform me and then attempted to fix it himself and I insisted he contact a electrician so my electrical warranty wouldn't be null and void. He really didn't care to hear my reasoning but did eventually 4 days later have an electrician repair it and his cost. His work is very slow, he left the job not finished and he was paid for work he didn't finish...I would say save yourself the hassle and find someone else.

**★ — Kelly Brink, Sept. 2017**

> Les Magura is the most unprofessional "Contractor" we have ever hired. He worked on a few projects for us first one a fence which he never finished. Second was an install of custom cabinets and tile work. (cabinets where another contractors the tile had to be repaired and properly sealed) The last project was an insurance project. Les took that as unlimited budget. His work was slow and even charged tools and supplies to our local hardware account that he should have had or at least asked to purchase as they were already onsite, many were returned as they were not needed. He took home trim that was being reused as it could not be matched. We had to beg him to bring it back. Took more time focusing on other trades jobs than his own or tried to complete jobs out of his scope. Example: Vinyl wallpaper: He told us he had never worked with it but went and bought supplies on our account for it even though we said no we had hired a professional wallpaper guy to come as we had limited amounts to work with to repair damaged section. Insisted on helping the carpet installer even though we said no as the install was part of the carpeting bill. He was rude and inconsiderate to women, and would not follow instruction from the woman owner. Example 1: Asked for door to be moved and drywalled to look finished and not half renovated. He trimmed it badly with trim allocated to another area. When I asked again for it to be finished he blew me off. Example 2: He rudely commented on staff and clients he saw around the property.
> His time management was pathetic and slow. Hired our housekeeping staff to help paint 1 bedroom at a higher rate then we have them at, without our consistent, and expected us to pay him as well as them for the job. On 2 occasions caught him at the public library and submitted the time for payment. His billing was on scraps of paper even though we asked him for invoices to prove he has GST number and WCB/insurance.
> His lack of respect, professionalism and general knowledge of the custom schluter shower we choose was the final aspect that made us move onto someone else.
> We had to find another professional to get the job redone and finished, that contractor has a full 5 star review and was professional start to finish and will be back.
> To top it off he claim we still owe him money and repeatedly posts negative reviews online about our business. We have paid him $3540 for this project and had to pay additional professionals to redo his work. Do NOT use Les for any reno or building projects.

**★★★★ — User, May 2013**

> I hired Mr. Magura to do three projects. One, he installed ceramic tiles in a rec. room plus did all the finishing carpentry work needed. Two, he installed a ceramic tile on the floor and the wall in a small bathroom. Three, he installed ceramic wall tile in a corner shower.
> Mr. Magura is knowledgeable in the construction sector. Before starting a project, he sat with me and gave me several options as to what materials were needed and how the work could be done.
> He has an amiable and easy going attitude and is quick to offer suggestions to problems.
> Mr. Magura can meet deadlines and will stay within budget. He offers reasonable prices and his work is of a professional standard.
> I would not hesitate in recommending Les Magura for any project.

**★★★★ — JB Young, April 2013**

> I have hired Les Magura for many projects over the years and have always been very pleased with the results. This work includes:
>
> -hardwood flooring installation and repairs
> -large-scale deck and rail improvements
> -kitchen improvements
> -various other household projects
>
> In all cases, Les Magura has shown a great attention to detail and pride with his workmanship. He is pleasant to deal with and trustworthy. I would definitely recommend him.

**★★★★ — Laural Eacott, March 2013**

> Les has done a couple of plumbing jobs for us, one was installing the pipes and drains for my mobile pet grooming and the other was in the grooming shop, he was and is very knowledgeable, he is doing and does it for very reasonable cost . He has also been able to give a professional advice on different ideas I have had.
> I do not hesitate to refer him to friends and neighbors. He is also very trust worthy. Out to make a living not rip you off.
> Refereed hi,m to a senior neighbor and he did a great job finishing her deck and carport ceilings, going beyond that job and helping her with some painting so she wouldn't have to go up on a ladder.

**★★★★ — mettalaw, March 2013**

> The ad promised Les would fix the mistakes of previous workers, and he delivered. His quote on the kitchen renovation was a fair one and came in on time and on budget. Les is a kind and generous person willing to go the extra mile. On the job, he is fully engaged with his work and can generate ingenious solutions to the sticky problems old houses often present. I would recommend hiring him on the basis of any quote he gives.

## Community Q&A

**Q: moldings for windows interior** *(in Design Dilemma)*

I have pvc windows. Can I put wooden moldings and wooden sills on the interior of the windows? Please help!

A: Yes, I do it all the time, looks great, check out Fine Home Building back issues for some ideas.

**Q: Kitchen cabinets- leave honey oak or paint white? Mocked up photo included** *(in Design Dilemma)*

Would really appreciate opinions on weather painting our honey oak kitchen cabinets white to blend with new white appliances. I did my best to mock up a photo from the sherwin Williams iPad app of the "after shot". We are looking to sell our home in the next year and are doing updates thus year. Thanks

A: Ouch , just saw someone saying to us Kilz, its the only product I've ever had a reaction too and I've worked with a lot. Its pretty nasty stuff and definetly not something to use in a kitchen.

**Q: Check out our BEFORE & AFTER of this cute Bungalow** *(in Before & After)*

This house had 4 different floor heights when we started. The kitchen was tiny and the living room had a poorly built sunroom added on. We pulled it down to the studs and fixed everything and brought it back up to our standards! Would love to know what Houzzer's think!!!

A: New kitchen and dining room look great, but the living room looks like it shoold have left as it was.
