A: Beautiful work/design. **Q: mixing metals?** *(in Photo Questions)* When using a copper hood vent, what materials are suggested for the cooktop, dishwahers, refrigerator and microwave? A: Hi Melinda, mixing metals is just fine. Most typically, my clients choose stainless steel when they go with a copper hood. You can also select a rubbed bronze, that that adds one more metal in that dishwashers, microwaves, frigs, etc., are most commonly stainless steel. I have seen black but it's not my favorite look unless it's a statement look. When I do a hood, I often will add a component of metal such as stainless into the decorative trim to tie things together. Let me know if you would like more information. **Q: need honest feedback - I am on the verge of pulling my hair out!!! lol** *(in Building a Home)* I am quite bummed out. We are almost done building our first home and I am really having a hard time falling in love with my kitchen. I’m so sad because at first I was absolutely in love, but now that our granite and stone archway are installed I’m second guessing everything. In my opinion, the stone turned out way more orange/warm than I expected. I feel like it severely crashes with our countertops. I can’t tell if it’s just the lighting or if I’m overthinking it - I am terrible at decorating/design so that’s why I would like some honest (but respectful) feedback. Please note that the floors are still covered in dust so they actually aren’t that light, they are a tad bit darker and less grey looking. My whole intention with my house was to walk a line between rustic and modern. I didn’t want anything too “trendy” but I didn’t want my home to feel outdated. Honestly I’m sitting here going what the hell was I thinking. My husband is happy with how it’s turning out and he thinks I am maybe just struggling because the house isn’t furnished yet. I don’t know but it’s bothering me really bad. Am I crazy?? Lol A: Jayapple21, there is no way to lighten dried grout other than by applying a paint on top. You could dig it out and then regrout, but that is a lot of work. I would test applying a sheer layer with force of lighter grout to see if it will hold, in lieu of painting. If you paint it, it needs to be an organic product (using the term paint loosely). **Q: Envirolak Series for Cabinet Painting?** *(in Paint)* I would love to hear about your experience with cabinet paint. Which top coat is the most durable and long lasting? Currently we are considering brushing/rolling the Envirolak 9000 primer and Envirolak 200 series topcoat in Satin. A: This post is now four months old and I am curious to know what Debbie did? I would concur with many of the comments that the professional products (Industrial coatings) are made to be sprayed and rarely look great brushed/rolled. They also should be used with a respirator is adding the catalyst. I've never seen a DIY cabinet job that looked very professional. The best finishes have many years of experience that doesn't seem to be understood or very valued. It is, however worth its weight in gold. Then again, if you are fine with the results that you product brushing and rolling, then go for it. Consider Emerald, Cabinet Coat, etc. I would use none of these myself, but I am a professional that finishes and refinishes for the utmost look, quality, durability and take no short-cuts. But my work is not for everyone and I understand this. Regarding products being over-rated, nope. The industrial coats look better, feel better and wear better. Ultimately, they are much better for resale is that is a consideration. **Q: What paint color is on the island?** *(in Photo Questions)* What paint color is on the island? A: High-quality paint jobs are not done in paints under the BM, SW, Behr, etc. brands. When we select colors for cabinets, we may have then custom matched to one of these brands' colors. For a similar look to this island, you might want to consider Benjamin Iron Ore. Another beautiful black is Sherwin Williams Tricorn. Again, those are color options but not for the actual cabinet paint. Obviously, Austin Signature Homes know more about this project than I do as I have nothing to do with it, but the island and hood look to me more like a rich stain versus paint, but it could be the reflections, etc. **Q: Herringbone accent wall with air vent** *(in Home Decorating)* Hi, I'm planning to do a living room accent wall and there is a large air vent at the top/middle of the wall. I really like the herringbone style but with this rectangular vent in the middle, I'm not sure it would work. I would love to hear your ideas. Thanks! A: It will be beautiful.
