I had their Renaissance 25 Year shingles installed in 2002, 14 years ago. I noticed about 3 years ago that some of the shingles were loosing the granular finish and the ends were beginning to curl. Pictures attached are from July 2015; they are worse looking this year. > I contacted Sears Home service (did the installation) about this and they told me that their warranty was only good for 5 years and that I needed to go thru the manufacturer. > When I contacted IKO customer service, that's when the fun began. I had to fill out one of their claims forms which involved not only taking about a dozen pictures but having to climb onto the roof and remove two sections on the problem shingles. There is no way I have skill set to to this. I was told that they would pay me $150 if I submitted an invoice from a handy person to do it. I asked what happens to the area where the 2 samples are removed. I was told to install new shingles. But apparently the style installed is not made anymore (wonder why). And then I'm told that whatever compensation I would get would be prorated base on the price I paid in 2002, which the customer service person "could not calculate at this time". > And, i found out after some research, there is a class-action lawsuit against IKO regarding these shingles. > Am I going to jump thru the hoops their customer service what me to in order to get some pittance of a refund . . . probably not. > Would I buy IKO shingles again? Never. > Would I recommend IKO shingles? Other leading brands are shorting you on product. You will find only a couple of manufacturers that are actually selling you a square when you buy a square! IKO definitely packages a square in the bundles you buy from them. If you are finding yourself short on your coverages it is more than likely the product you are using.
