The first was a small kitchen project back in 2003. The second was a big gut job redoing the 1st and 2nd floors of our 15 foot wide DC rowhouse. The 3rd, the basement. And the last and most recent job was an addition that forced a redo of the kitchen (due to the 140 year old walls giving way), that was to go on top of the kitchen. Between jobs SDC has been there for us when small things come up, so we think of them as our contractor, regardless if there is a project in the works or not. > This review is of the last project. We are happy with the new kitchen and the added bedroom on top of it. We are also happy that we were able to save money by reusing the counter top, stove, sink, fridge, and all the cabinets. There were some errors and some happy discoveries. Sadly we lost the kitchen's heated floor (from the first project) and the communications wires (phone & Ethernet) some how got damaged. But we gained 6 inches when the old walls came down and the crew adjusted beautifully. We also managed to keep part of a brick wall that was planned to be removed but SDC let me keep it and adjusted to my change order. > The original bid was around $64K for the removal and repair of one wall, the extension of a bedroom above the single story kitchen, spray foam insulation, and new windows for the whole house. As I expected there were changes not part of the original plan. Several of those changes were because we saw something and added stuff. We managed to keep the costs from getting too crazy by saying no to a lot of things that came up and limiting our change orders.
