It is currently a sage green. I am think of a white or linen. The wall on the left has a recessed area that I would like to paint another color. A: Hi! if you want white or cream paint, test the color by painting a strip on the edge of the wall, from the baseboard up 5'- then you'll be able to tell if you like it. For the furnishings, when there's so many styles, it's hard to tell how pretty your things are. Making the cloth table a focal point would be nice. Consider putting the cloth over 2 tables to look like one table - it's hard to have 2 tables look good when side by side, and a larger table would be nice. Move some of the beautiful antique photos here, to place on the table or hang on the wall with the other art. They can be seen here. The alcove is a good place for larger items, like what is on the small table. The mirror is small between the sconces. If they aren't electrified, move them closer to the mirror, and move the paintings now on the right on either side of them to make that table wall more of a focal point The art to the left might fit below the mirror. The idea is to fill up this wall space. If you can't move the sconces, hang 2 art pieces between them. The mirror might go in the alcove. Try the 2 wood chairs on either side of the sofa, and both cream upholstered chairs across from the sofa. If you move furniture & there isn't room for a table between seating pieces, then consider removing a chair or two, and putting them back in the room at the next season. Enjoy your things, but rotate them in and out of the room so that the pieces can be appreciated. Good luck! **Q: Range hood chimney mistake, no upper cabinets, and tile help needed** *(in Design Dilemma)* Edited to try picture again. Not sure where it went the first time. I am looking for ideas on what to do next. We built a year ago and have had to reconfigure the stove area already due to a bad brand new stove and a sloppy, lazy electrician. The first solution had a cabinet with the convection microwave now sitting to the left of stove hanging which I hated. Not to mention it was 4 of 4 failed brand new GE Cafe appliances. Problem 1 is I don't know where the error was made but the chimney is not wide enough to cover the outlet. 1 idea was to tile to cover the outlet and move the outlet to the other side of the stud. That would be above the tops of the windows. Next idea is to try and find a wider chimney. Where the microwave sits a 4' butcher block is being built right now and the new, small microwave will be mounted underneath. Not ideal but the cabinets were finished before it failed. Sitting on my beloved soapstone is not an option for me. I put the soapstone tile in last night. Except for the one piece I have to cut today. I had planned to tile with the same under the sink window too. Problem 2 is do I install 1 row of soapstone tile around the perimeter to tie in the stove and sink backsplash? Problem 3 once the chimney issue is fixed do I tile up under the edge of the range hood or leave the exposed strip? We appreciate any input! A: Hi, your kitchen is very pretty, I love the shutters. I think you're getting the electrical figured out. As a general design comment, I would put the soapstone across the whole wall, to the left of the stove above the cabinets, and to the right of the stove to the corner of the wall. Some wood upper shelves to the right and left of the cook top would be nice. Display items could be a selection of ironstone, or blue bottles, or teapots - whatever you might collect. If you don't want shelves, or don't want to install more soapstone, a large piece of art on either side of the stove would be good looking and fill the space. Framed posters with kitchen type images (wine, field of lavender, a cow - not sure where you live and what is appropriate :) would be great there. A runner in front of the stove and sink, a tray on the island with the things you leave on the island, and your kitchen will be finished and lovely. **Q: too large master bedroom** *(in Home Decorating)* I have a large master bedroom and I know I’m not using the space well. There are 4 distinct areas- main (19X12.5), a secondary Area (12x10.5), a nook that’s currently my office (8X6.5) and an area near the door (6x5.75). The main area and secondary run into each other, so the room is 31 x 12.5 (for 19ft) and x 10.5 (for 12ft). Other than the nook and the bed, I really don’t know what else to do with space. Any ideas are appreciated A: Hi! After looking at the photos, it seems the office is in too tight a space. Would you consider moving it to the other end of the bedroom? A sofa could divide the office area from the bedroom area, or get some ikea or other open shelves to divide the office and bedroom areas. For the rest of the space, consider what you use - for the current office nook, if you have a lot of books, shelves could be on both walls, like a little walk through library. This would be a pleasant way to enter your bedroom, Or maybe just a table on one wall with a collection you might have- comic books, trains, cameras, stacks of magazines, anything. If you have clutter or possessions you can't display, build a closet. It's luxurious to have room around everything. I envy you! **Q: Help me dress my ottoman!** *(in Design Dilemma)* What kind of throw pillows would you use to dress this ottoman? I upholstered it myself but am having trouble with what type of pillows (color, size, patterns, etc) to place on top. Other colors in this room include a grey sofa and two light grey chairs, Cream patterned rug. A: Very pretty ottoman, and like the throw suggestion. It would be nice to attach a flat tape (or gross grain ribbon) in grey, approx 1/2" wide, at the top of the box part, below the top that's hinged. **Q: Shower head height** *(in Design Dilemma)* My contractor installed our 8" diameter fixed rain shower head at 6'5" off the floor and on a 15" arm. This seems too low to me - we are tall people (I'm 5'8" and my husband 6'1"). He claims that this was the recommended height for the shower head . Any advise about what we can do? The very expensive tile has been drilled and I'm not sure what we can do to correct this. A: There is no recommended height for a shower head. The contractor should have asked you for the height you wanted. It looks ok, but this kind of detail is very important. Read your contract with him to see what the parameters are for notice of making decisions on the job. **Q: Small, glass accent table** *(in Design Dilemma)* I bought a small glass accent table that I planned to use in my living room but it turned out to be a little too big for the space, and I couldn't return it because I bought it on sale. I have now placed it along a wall, outside a bathroom and am stumped as to how to decorate it. I'm thinking of an orchid plant but would be interested in any other ideas you maye have.
