Removing it opened up the whole house, and enabled us to convert the former kitchen into a dining room (complete with beautiful bay windows and built-in buffet), and family room. We gained a much more spacious and functional kitchen with ample storage and a beautiful island. Unused space in the great room became a new walk-in closet for the master. The vaulted ceilings and exposed beams stayed, while she added French doors out to the front yard and a built-in desk. In the master bedroom Brittney used the old walk-in closet to more than double the size of our formerly cramped bathroom - we now have a gorgeous bathroom with a double vanity, separate tub and shower, and a toilet closet. > > Bottom line - The floor plan improved the function and flow of the house tremendously. Brittney came up with a design we never would of have thought of on our own. This was not the only option she designed for us, but was the one that worked best for us. She also very expertly presented us with multiple elevations, even though we were in love with the coastal Cape Cod look and eventually went with that. She was very good at troubleshooting along the way, and given her design background, she also offered us valuable fit and finish advice, which we really appreciated. > > All in all, we're very pleased with our new home and could not recommend Brittney more highly to help design yours! **★★★★★ — wolsue, Oct. 2015** > My husband and I used Brittney Nielsen's services during a whole house makeover 5 years ago. We thoroughly enjoyed working with her and were thrilled with the final outcome. Brittney was extremely helpful is coming up with a unifying color scheme, guiding us through innumerable design decisions, and integrating our existing furniture with new pieces. We ended up with a polished look that was warm and welcoming, and melded beautifully with our personal tastes and lifestyle. > > After retiring last year, we moved to a new home that had a few problem areas including a very dark and dreary living room/dining room area. We called in Brittney and she quickly gave us some creative solutions that have completely transformed the space. > > We absolutely loved Brittney's design approach. She provided just as much or as little assistance as we needed at different points during our projects. Often she would give us a good starting concept, we would do our own shopping, and then she would help us sort through the various options we came up with. Other times, she suggested furniture or materials that dramatically punched up the look of a room -- without breaking the bank. Our meetings together were always highly collaborative, productive and loads of fun. We can wholeheartedly recommend her! **★★★★★ — aquajetart, Sept. 2015** > Brittney was so easy to work with, a true professional. She worked closely with her client to bring fresh ideas and colors to us to create beautiful custom entry medallions, one for the foyer and one for the entry to the master bedroom. We also worked together to create a lovely stone centerpiece design for the master shower wall and a coordinating border to carry the look through the remainder of the master bath. **★★★★★ — jamiesmithcarr, Aug. 2015** > Recently I had the privilege of working with Brittney on a renovation project at my home. She is not only extremely talented but is also a pleasure to work with. She has a keen eye for the unusual and her high standards made my project stand out and end up being even better than I expected. There's no question she is extremely talented and I highly recommend her services. **★★★★★ — Cati Byrne, June 2015** > Hi Brittney - > Long past due...a simple thank you for all you do, and did for me. > As you know, I am in real estate and over the course of the past 15 years I have run across some very impressive designers. You, Brittney, stand with the best of them. Your handling of the remodeling of my personal property in Cardiff-by-the Sea had the hallmarks of world-class design - thoughtful , attentive, persistent, thorough, imaginative. > Thank you again. I would not hesitate to recommend you to any of my friends and clients. > Please feel free to pass on this high recommendation to anyone you choose. I would be happy to talk with them at any time. > I look forward to my next project with you. > Best always - > Cati **★★★★★ — Denise Dorin, May 2015** > We learned about Brittney Nielson through DirectBuy. The 1st day we met we instantly knew that she would be the one to help decorate both of our homes! We subsequently sold both of those homes and replaced them with 2 others. Again Brittney was instrumental with picking out the paint colors and decorating. She very respectful, has wonderful ideas, is very detailed oriented and responsive and extremely fair on her pricing. We recommended her to some friends who decided to remodel their home and they raved about Brittney as well! I also referred her to one of the nonprofits that I volunteer for as we wanted some suggestions on paint colors. Not only did Brittney suggest the right colors, she also gave suggestions on moving furniture around. Well we took her advice and the office looks awesome! **★★★★★ — dianemhonick, May 2015** > I have worked with Brittney as a supplier for the past eight years. I have found her to be one of the most talented designers I've had the pleasure of working with. Her attention to detail is nothing short of amazing. She knows the design needs of her clients and satisfies them. It's obvious her clients all have confidence in her ability to complete a project in a timely fashion with the finished project exceeding their expectations. > I would highly recommend Brittney to anyone needed design services. > Diane Honick > Amazon Stones > 7980 Miramar Rd. > San Diego, Ca. > 858-566-5117 **★★★★★ — aprilflak, May 2015** > I was referred to Brittney from the former owner of my company who loved her work. We have worked together remodeling every room in my home for the past 1 1/2 years. I have seen 3 contractors come and go in that time but it is she who continues to be focused, time conscience and also positive as our designer. She was very easy to get in touch with and always kept her appointments. Her knowledge for what a client "wants" is spot on even when I kept her guessing she sent me ideas. Brittney made a difference is elevating my own design ideas to just a bit more polished and I appreciate her for that. She is very cost conscience and practical which every vendor I worked with via Brittney also confirmed. She is very approachable and hands on. We met many times from slab yards to showrooms which showed me her passion for what she does and her down to earth attitude. Brittney made our home not just a remodel process but a journey. That is what I wanted and now enjoy. I was a hands on client every step of the way. I really think about aspects of our home differently because of all she has taught me on how to view it. We wish her the best and highly recommend her professionally. **★★★★★ — lauries80, May 2015** > Brittney has worked on 2 projects for me. First on our home in Olivenhain and later on our beach condo in Solana Beach. > At our home we were doing an addition and had so many unanswered questions. Brittney saved us from many costly and permanent mistakes. She saves us money time and again. The ceiling height from the kitchen going into a high beam great room was designed beautifully. She also handled the Spanish dark taste that my husband had and blended that well with my light and airy look. We are both happy with the result of our home. > Later I decorated a cute little beach condo and we had a ton of fun making it the Coastal dream! Look at VRBO 134720 and you will see many photos of her work. > I loved working with Brittney. Her personality was great! Never stressed and always upbeat. She was reliable and responsible. Overall a 5 star all the way!! **★★★★★ — D R, Aug. 2014** > Brittney Nielsen is one of the best designers we have ever worked with. She took our newly purchased home and helped us personalize and upgrade every room. She is professional and personable; on time, very organized and a delight to work with. Brittney is connected to all the very best resources. She does a great job coordinating suppliers and timing so everything runs smoothly and efficiently. We would highly recommend her. **★★★★★ — 2468ha, June 2014** > Brittney’s wealth of design experience and talent helped bring our new home to life and tell our family’s story. She created a flowing design concept that weaves together beautiful colors, textures, patterns and artwork that are a daily source of joy, renewal and inspiration. Her expertise brought a richness and visual interest to our home that we couldn’t have achieved on our own. It’s so exciting to see friends and family gush over the fresh colors and new beauty in our home. > In order to gain a better sense of our family, Brittney spent time with us in our home, attentively listening to our likes and dislikes, and viewing concept photos. Consistently timely and organized, each meeting felt productive and fun with her positive, can-do attitude. Each appointment with Brittney was like anticipating Mary Poppin’s arrival on my doorstep-- I always looked forward to the magic she would bring! > She encouraged us to be playful with color and take some risks— and we are so grateful that we did, as we have no regrets. Having made expensive mistakes in the past purchasing furniture and artwork that weren’t the appropriate size and scale, her guidance in this area was invaluable. Brittney helped us select pieces that were competitively priced and right on point in size and scale. Sensitive to our budget, we appreciated her giving us various price point options on different pieces. > She worked well within time constraints and had excellent communication with the team working on the house. She often went the extra mile by being available for a last-minute consult. While we chose to work with several people on her team for different projects, we got bids from various vendors and had the freedom to select who we wanted for each job. > Hiring Brittney is right up there with some of the best decisions I have ever made, and I can’t imagine hiring anyone else for our next design project. **★★★★★ — pallarest, June 2014** > Brittney Nielsen is absolutely lovely and professional, great listener, patient, extremely knowledgeable about design from reading and editing blue prints, dealing with contractors, creating budgets, knowing where to shop for every type of product for the home and pulling it all together within a specified time period. My husband and I rebuilt a home from the studs and thanks to Brittney's ability in listening to our differing opinions and needs, my husband and I did not have one argument. She was able to resolve our differences in design and style by proposing her ideas, in which..3 years later we have no regrets about our selections. Brittney was easy to work with and she was respected by our contractors as she had demonstrated her knowledge and experience. Quite often our contractors would consult with her when many times it is the designer consulting with the contractors. Brittney is thorough when researching and locating an item, product or idea. She is prompt and always follows through within the specified deadline given by herself, the client and contractor. At every opportunity, I refer Brittney to my friends, colleagues and contractors as they are in excellent hands and lucky to have the opportunity to work with a brilliant designer. My husband and I consider Brittney and her family close friends and we feel so blessed to have met the Nielsen family. ## Selected projects - [Colorful Coronado Beach Cottage](https://www.houzz.com/hznb/projects/colorful-coronado-beach-cottage-pj-vj~558134) - Location: Coronado, CA - Photos: 20 - Description: Coastal Coronado Home - [Contemporary Coastal Coronado](https://www.houzz.com/hznb/projects/contemporary-coastal-coronado-pj-vj~1276857) - Location: Coronado, CA - Photos: 17 - Description: contemporary with nautical accents - [Clean & Contemporary Rancho Santa Fe](https://www.houzz.com/hznb/projects/clean-and-contemporary-rancho-santa-fe-pj-vj~558195) - Location: San Diego, CA - Photos: 9 - [Fresh & Bright Kitchen/ Family Room Poway](https://www.houzz.com/hznb/projects/fresh-and-bright-kitchen-family-room-poway-pj-vj~558277) - Location: Poway, CA - Photos: 7 - [Organic Modern San Diego](https://www.houzz.com/hznb/projects/organic-modern-san-diego-pj-vj~558463) - Location: San Diego, CA - Photos: 8 - [High Contrast Modern Rancho Santa Fe](https://www.houzz.com/hznb/projects/high-contrast-modern-rancho-santa-fe-pj-vj~558493) - Location: San Diego, CA - Photos: 8 - Description: Espresso brown & white Polished chrome accents - [Coastal Modern Bath La Jolla](https://www.houzz.com/hznb/projects/coastal-modern-bath-la-jolla-pj-vj~558480) - Location: Not specified - Photos: 5 [See all 7 projects](https://www.houzz.com/professionals/interior-designers-and-decorators/brittney-nielsen-interior-design-pfvwus-pf~152004511) ## Ideabooks - [Wish List](https://www.houzz.com/ideabooks/106396908/list/wish-list) — 1 idea - [Black](https://www.houzz.com/ideabooks/103262435/list/black) — 2 ideas - [Bathrooms](https://www.houzz.com/ideabooks/47185107/list/bathrooms) — 40 ideas - [Presta Diaz](https://www.houzz.com/ideabooks/53695447/list/presta-diaz) — 69 ideas - [Kitchens](https://www.houzz.com/ideabooks/47169872/list/kitchens) — 45 ideas - [Ceiling](https://www.houzz.com/ideabooks/53259192/list/ceiling) — 6 ideas - [Santana Boyd](https://www.houzz.com/ideabooks/78543064/list/santana-boyd) — 5 ideas - [Neuenswander](https://www.houzz.com/ideabooks/77862135/list/neuenswander) — 9 ideas - [Flooring](https://www.houzz.com/ideabooks/52048502/list/flooring) — 5 ideas - [Oleynick](https://www.houzz.com/ideabooks/72060446/list/oleynick) — 1 idea - [Fireplaces](https://www.houzz.com/ideabooks/53002858/list/fireplaces) — 9 ideas - [Foster Pugh](https://www.houzz.com/ideabooks/57846370/list/foster-pugh) — 19 ideas - [Perkovich Seattle](https://www.houzz.com/ideabooks/47539648/list/perkovich-seattle) — 8 ideas - [Reavie](https://www.houzz.com/ideabooks/50665324/list/reavie) — 42 ideas - [Canfield](https://www.houzz.com/ideabooks/53090226/list/canfield) — 4 ideas - [Stairs](https://www.houzz.com/ideabooks/53305993/list/stairs) — 3 ideas - [Built Ins](https://www.houzz.com/ideabooks/47170933/list/built-ins) — 8 ideas - [Mudroom](https://www.houzz.com/ideabooks/51182907/list/mudroom) — 2 ideas - [Laundry](https://www.houzz.com/ideabooks/62003561/list/laundry) — 1 idea - [Home Office](https://www.houzz.com/ideabooks/58546949/list/home-office) — 5 ideas [See all 47 ideabooks](https://www.houzz.com/ideabooks/users/brittney68) ## Community Q&A **Q: Cabinet Pulls and Knobs** *(in Photo Questions)* I’m just getting back to my project after dealing with ailing parents for the past few years .... looking forward to getting back on track. You had mentioned that the cabinet pulls and handles were Amerock Blackrock collection in satin nickel. I see it is still available ... yay!! Do you happen to know if these pulls and handles in this kitchen were 5-1/16” or 6-5/16”? It’s hard to get a reference from the photo not knowing width of the doors and doors exactly. A: I'm sorry to hear about your family member but glad to hear you are back on track. The kitchen pulls are 6 5/16". **Q: Cabinet Pulls and Knobs** *(in Photo Questions)* Any chance you still have information on which manufacturer and style the pulls and handles are on this exquisite ensuite vanity? A: These are Emtek Brass Geometric 3" pulls & 1.25" knobs. **Q: Source for barstools** *(in Photo Questions)* Could you please share the source for the barstools? Love them! A: These barstools are from Lily Pulitzer Furniture but I don't think they are available any longer. **Q: Who is maker of mosaic tile and where purchased from? Color/style \#** *(in Photo Questions)* want to know where you got the mosaic tile, who the maker is and the color and style number. A: The tile is from Arizona Tiles Shimmer Glass Mosaic Collection Color - Azul. We used 1" x 4" mosaics and mixed them with 9/16" mosaic to create a custom pattern. **Q: Love this wallpaper** *(in Photo Questions)* Who makes it? Where can I get it? A: This wallpaper is de Gournay and is custom colored. It was ordered through the Los Angeles designer showroom. Here is the link to the website. https://degournay.com/contactus/51.489175%2C-0.175327\_20 **Q: Name and maker of counter top?** *(in Photo Questions)* Hi, can you telll me the color name and maker of this counter top. It's beautiful with the wall tile. A: Thank you. The countertop is 'Pure White Quartzite' it is a natural stone and is the same as what's on the shower walls. The photo doesn't perfectly represent how the material looks in person. The shower walls are a closer representation. I hope this helps. --- *Source: Houzz professional profile.
