I had worked with the help of a designer and contractor for the first stage and things went relatively well. However for the second stage, I was wasting so much time trying to get what I want that we ended up parting ways, mid-project. > I took charge of the rest of the second phase of the project. I am saying this to state two things . > First, I could be considered a difficult customer. > Second, I was feeling a bit burnt, when I first met with Warren. > My first objective was to find someone who would accept to redo my kitchen while reusing some of our old cupboards (not many takers for the job). Warren made this possible, with a little bit of juggling ( I was in charge of the design). He was also very careful to choose a company who would work within my price range. > We also were rebuilding two fireplaces and a lot of safety details had to be worked through. > Our previous contractor insisted that our old hardwood floors would have to be replaced. Warren found some one who repaired and refinished the floors, making them look like new. > Some fixtures were moved (a difficult process because the radiant electric heat from the ceiling). The main floor and some of the upstairs walls were repainted (for me a conservative 4 colour design). > Warren made sure that my requests were heard. He would review the work and ask > for an extra coat of paint when needed. Because we lived in the house, he made sure the site was clean at the end of the day. The workmen he hires are very professional and show up on time. Yes , of course there were delays, because I am "difficult" and some things > required extra time to be redone (i.e. the colour for the cupboards had to be remixed). > I am happy to recommend Warren Kimmel. He is very personable, he listens, and is easy to communicate with, he really keeps his cool and asks the best of his workers. I am most satisfied with the results!! **★★★★★ — arf7337, Aug. 2017** > Project description: We did a complete renovation of a Vancouver Special, and involved a rebuild of the back deck (and transformation from car-port into an attached garage), rebuilding the front deck, and a complete gut-out of the lower level of the house (inside space approximately 1,300 sq ft). The inside space included a complete space re-design to include a full master suite with bedroom & walk-in closet, 2 bathrooms, a guest bedroom, a playroom and a laundry facility. > > We interviewed 9 contractors and hired Warren Kimmel. When we first met Warren, he brought his master carpenter, who was able to point out that the back deck was rotten and in need of full rebuilt. None of the other contractors interviewed were able to point this problem. > > Warren was a pleasure to work with, and is a kind and honest person. He listed patiently and was always available to answer numerous questions. During the demolition stages of the lower level of the house, we had a few not so pleasant surprises. Warren was quick to find a solution to the problem at hand, in consultation with his plumbing team and was quick to resolve the problem. > > The final space turned out to be amazing and we love our home.
