> The company built a two story addition over a preexisting two car garage for us. They had the expertise to modify the existing structure and to practically rebuild the existing garage which required 6 new steel columns, three large beams that required a crane for installation and a suspended commercial grade concrete slab over corrugated metal decking. The wood framing for the two stories above and the roof was completed within less than 2 weeks.
> Another challenge that they were able to tackle was creating an eight feet wide opening into a one foot thick brick load-bearing wall while supporting the preexisting story and roof above. This required installation of couple of steel channels to serve as a beam and a slow process of removing several bricks at a time, welding a new steel plate in place, waiting for the masonry to set before repeating the same over and over again until the whole opening was completed.
> The owner worked with me on a few last minute changes including the installation of radiant floor heating which turned out to be one of the best decisions that we made for our project. Another change that was not in the original plan was the change of the roof to standing seam metal roof which allowed for a seamless installation of solar panels without ANY roof penetrations (no leaks). Yet another issue that they were able to tackle was the fireproofing of the steel beams in the garage. The engineering requirement was to spray the beams with a specialty commercial fireproofing material that most small residential contractors have never even heard of, but M Harkin Construction LLC had it done and avoided the need to install bulky and unsightly drywall or cement board around the beams.
> The company was able to build everything to the satisfaction of the strict local code requirements. They never had any failed inspections and on multiple occasions received compliments from the local inspectors on the quality of work. Indeed, when the final survey was performed the the corner of the building was determined to be exactly 10 feet away from the boundary as required. They were also able to install trees for a live screen as required by local zoning commission.
> Once the project was complete, everything was restored to its original (or better than original) condition including the driveway and the back lawn.
> While there were some delays during the construction, they were due to supply chain issues due to the COVID epidemic and certain project changes that we requested only after the project had already begun. For example, towards the end of the project we requested the installation of built-in cabinets in the new great room. Every single person who has visited our house is impressed by those cabinets and the custom crown molding ceiling that was created to hide the two structural steel beams in the ceiling.

This is the hardest type of project to do well as Harkin was not starting with a "clean slate" but rather had to be very creative in figuring out how to make the proper repairs without it looking like a repair job.  Needless to say they were brilliant.  We were so impressed that we hired them to build our pool house/outdoor kitchen which came out beautifully.  Everyone who sees the pool house comments on how it is the best pool house they have ever seen.  If you are considering hiring Harkin for your project you will not be disappointed, they are top notch quality, honest as the day is long and very reasonable budget wise.

> We hired M. Harkin to build a large deck on the back of my house based on a pricing and number of recommendations from ppl in the community.  Honestly, I couldn't be happier with the completed product.  These guys built me the nicest deck I've ever seen on an individual home, it went up quickly (literally 3 days for an 800 sq. ft deck!! - no lie) and the process was simple.  They came in with one of the lower quotes after talking to 6 or 7 different contractors and they were highly recommended by a couple different people.

> 1\. Communication.  If you've tried to get anything done with any type of contractor these days you know half of them never get back to you or take weeks.  Harkin got right back to me and best of all he was super responsive via text message.  Many contractors are old school and dont text at all.  Being able to get in touch with Mike any day, any time was really key for me.

> 2\. The price was very competitive for the quality.  can't beat it.
>
> 3\. My grandfather was a carpenter for years and had built at least 20 decks with his cousin who he said was "the best deck builder he's ever known".  He was very impressed with the quality of this deck.  After checking out the frame he was able to point out 4 or 5 different things that he said "nobody else does this, they went above and beyond".  Some of it was over my head as I'm no carpenter but he felt like this deck was nicer than anything he could have done.

> 4\. The guys helped me out with the permit and with pricing from the local materials vendors.  They would set me up with an account to buy direct and would also pick up the materials for me.  Made it super convenient.
