**★★★★ — Matthew Hurst, March 2019**

> We worked with Jim on a major remodel of our single story house, transforming it with a second floor and a completely updated look. Jim made the design process feel like a real collaboration. He very quickly turned around on ideas, offering a number of options at every iteration and guiding the process to the final design. We found him very attentive to our input, but also communicated specific design ideas that he felt were important to ensuring a cohesive result. As the project progressed, he helped adjust the design as needed.
>
> Jim was also very present during the build. He was always available for on site meetings, and would follow up with the contractor to resolve issues with execution.
>
> We would definitely recommend Jim, and would also work with him in on future projects.

**★★★★★ — Andy Lai, March 2019**

> Jim Burton Architects helped us on an extensive remodel of our home in Bellevue. The project consisted of a complete remodel and update of the
> kitchen, dining and living rooms. The main spaces of the house were Opened up to each other and to the outdoors, and modernized. All of the
> existing bathrooms were remodeled as well.
>
> We began the project with Jim exploring many options, and he helped us choose the option that worked best for our goals, our aesthetic preferences and our budget. We’re very happy with the outcome, and
> recommend him highly!

**★★★★★ — K.mae studio, Feb. 2019**

> We worked with Jim forour house remodel. He listened us carefully and designed exactly what we wanted. Very happy with our outcome. High,h recommended.

**★★★★★ — Ian Birk, Feb. 2019**

> Jim Burton has worked with us on several remodel projects in our turn-of-the-century home on Queen Anne Hill in Seattle. First was an upstairs bathroom remodel, which updated a cramped old bathroom into a bright, open, and much more functional space. At the same time, the new design got back to the traditional style of the house.
>
> The second project was a more extensive main floor remodel. Jim helped us remove an old, poorly placed powder room and establish a new floor plan with a new powder room. This opened up our living and dining rooms. The 1970s kitchen was taken down to studs and redone with modern appliances.
>
> The new kitchen is enhanced with a higher ceiling and a large Lift-and-Slide door opening up to the backyard. The large door and window combination allows a wall almost entirely of window out of the kitchen. We are working with Jim on an outdoor terrace that will include an outdoor fireplace, grill and patio.
>
> We've thoroughly enjoyed working with and recommend Jim Burton Architects.

**★★★★★ — rebozo, Dec. 2018**

> Jim Burton helped us design a modest Mother-In-Law addition to our house, with a bedroom/en suite bathroom, and separate sitting room. He was very easy to work with, treated the process as a team effort, helped us choose a contractor, and helped us stay within a modest budget. And the project turned out great - a beautiful addition, that blends seamlessly with the original house.

**★★★★★ — mcpiaseczny, Aug. 2012**

> Jim did an excellent job for us. We needed an architect who had experience with modern rain screens, had the a modern design aesthetic, was flexible in the project structure, and could help us improvise to keep costs down. We are very happy with the results.

**★★★★★ — scribante, July 2012**

> Jim Burton Architects worked with me to turn a dark dreary basement bathroom into a stunning masterpiece - I want to transplant it upstairs now to be my master bath! Jim took the ideas I brought to the table, and created a final product that was greater than the sum of its parts.
>
> I have plans for further remodeling, and wouldn't think of using anyone else. I highly recommend Jim Burton Architects!!

**★★★★★ — greglewis, June 2012**

> We used Jim Burton on a remodel project, and can’t say enough about his talents. He helped us turn our dark, cramped, inefficient kitchen into a bright, functional and beautiful space that we and our guests love spending time in. The project included a very small addition, yet did so in a way that transformed the whole space, and in a way the house in general, plus re-oriented the home toward views and the outside in a way the original design never captured.
>
> When the time comes for more projects we wouldn't use anyone else!

**★★★★★ — suekay2012, May 2012**

> I called Jim after seeing the green house remodel he did for a neighbor. I have followed his work and career through the years (about ten) and used other architects working with and recommended by my contractors. I was advised to get bids from additional architects. I Always came back to Jim. He is the ultimate professional; thoughtful, knowledgeable, creative, honest, responsive and more. (he was always respectful of my budget and patient with my naevity). I came to rely on him for the final, honest answers I needed. Jim built a scale model with various roof options to help me visualize. The scale model has served to not only help me but everyone else that worked on project. Jim did beautiful drawings and although I changed one of the final exterior colors, I think he was right. (as usual). The project included pitching the roofs, adding a master between two unconnected towers, competing the lower level, expanding the kitchen, adding deck on upper level.

## Community Q&A

**Q: What is wood of the cabinet and floor?** *(in Photo Questions)*

Really like the cabinet and floor. What's the type of wood? Where I can get them? Thanks!

A: Hi - that's vertical grain white oak.

**Q: Sustainable Design is where it's at!!** *(in Photo Questions)*

Love this exterior! Thanks for sharing! What materials were used?

A: Hi - sorry, I'm just now seeing this question! The main siding materials were 2x4 cedar, and painted Hardi-board, both applied in a rain-screen fashion. Thanks

**Q: What colour is the Hardie board?** *(in Photo Questions)*

A: On the Mercer Island project the cement-board was Cembonit (not Hardi-panel); I believe the color was called Slate.

**Q: I'm having a hard time finding a rep or distributor of Prodema? Help?** *(in Photo Questions)*

A: Hi - go to www.prodema.com and look for Representative Network. There's a rep in northern California.

**Q: What brand are the windows?** *(in Photo Questions)*

Are they Aluminium clad? What is the finish from inside?

A: Hi - these are aluminum windows, with a dark gray anodized finish both sides. Thanks,

**Q: Is the sding cedar strip or an engineered product. If so what is it?!** *(in Photo Questions)*

A: Hi - it's 1 x 4 cedar boards, installed in an open-gap rain-screen fashion. Thanks,
