ATELIER DROME is a full-service architecture, interior design, and branding firm that unites exceptional design with down-to-earth approachability.

We are a community of architects and interior designers who believe that good design truly has a positive impact and should be accessible to everyone, whether in spaces we use every day like residences and workplaces, or in public places such as restaurants, shops, and hotels.

From our studio’s inception in 2012, we have cultivated a highly collaborative, unpretentious yet rigorous design approach where all voices are valued equally. Together, we create buildings and spaces grounded in connection—between individual and community, beauty and function, people and place.

We’re passionate about design and believe the process should be anything but stodgy. When you work with us, we’ll act as your trusted advisor, listening carefully as we guide you through the design process to create a place as unique as you are. Placemaking is at the core of what we do, which is why the name ATELIER DROME, meaning “a studio for creating special places” fits us perfectly.

In our studio in Seattle’s Pioneer Square neighborhood, architects and interior designers sit side by side, working collaboratively on projects to combine technical skill with intuitive and innovative design solutions. No matter our individual titles, we treat one another like equals. We value and support each other, just as we value you, our client.

Atelier Drome strives for a human-centered process where active listening informs an honest dialogue. We are highly curious designers who place enormous emphasis on understanding each client’s unique vision, desires, and needs. For it is only when we design from empathy that we can create meaningful places that will serve people now, and into the future.

**★★★★★ — Chelsey H, Oct. 2022**

> Cassie at Atelier Drome was incredible to work with. I worked with her on two projects - a commercial space and a major bathrooom remodel. For the commerical space, I had a pretty good idea of what I wanted it to look like and she listened to all my crazy ideas and made them cohesive and look incredible. For the bathroom remodel, I knew the "vibes" I wanted to have in the two bathrooms but was much more open to suggestions. I am OBSESSED with what she came up with and could not have asked for anything better. I know that sounds a little over the top, but I am so so happy with how all three spaces turned out. They were pretty complicated projects but Cassie was so easy to communicate with and always very helpful with the contractors had issues or questions arise.

**★★★★★ — Hammer & Hand, April 2022**

> We have been fortunate to work with the team at Atelier Drome on several occasions — and with great success! They have a high-bar for the work they produce, yet remain very down-to-earth. Their emphasis on collaboration and professionalism make them one of the most talented and pleasant design firms to work with in the Seattle area. We would highly recommend them for both commercial and residential projects!

**★★★★★ — STS Construction Services, March 2016**

> We can't say enough great things about Atelier Drome. Michelle and Henry and their team are truly amazing. In this industry, there are many professionals we come across and worked with, however finding the ones that you really connect with on just about every process of the project is rare.
> Their eye for design and attention to detail, professionalism and quick turn around time is what sets them apart from others in their profession.
> I has been a great 10 year of business relationship together, we look forward to many more to come.

**Comment from Atelier Drome Architecture:**

> Thank you so much for your kind words, STS Construction Services! We love working with you and can't wait to see what projects we accomplish together in the future.

**★★★★★ — ahhall13, Jan. 2016**

> I have worked with Michelle Linden of Atelier Drome on two projects at my residence and I have nothing but praise. She listens and produces work that reflects the client's vision. She is resourceful - sourcing and presenting a variety of material options. She has strong interpersonal skills - able to work with multiple vendors (contractors, subcontractors) to the benefit of the client. Her organization has an efficient bill process and reasonable rates. And finally, she is a pleasure to work with.

**Comment from Atelier Drome Architecture:**

> Thank you! We appreciate your positive feedback about Atelier Drome and we're so glad that you were happy with our services. We loved working with you to bring your dream to life.

**★★★★★ — alenefisher, Jan. 2016**

> I hired Atelier Drome to design a 4plex in Seattle. They worked hard to find creative solutions to make the building as large as possible given the small space and delved into the details to come up with savings in almost every area. They gave me a budget and not only met it, but delivered more than promised. The design is smart and beautiful and I can't say enough about Michelle, Shannon and the other team members at Atelier Drome.

**★★★★★ — Terra Design, Dec. 2015**

> Michelle Linden and her team at Atelier Drome Architecture have been my go to architectural firm for many years. My clients occasionally need the services of a good architect and as a landscape designer they often ask me.
>
> I have referred Michelle to several clients over the years and the results have been consistently stellar. Michelle has strong technical, aesthetic and communication skills - all desirable traits. She understands construction and is also resourceful and creative in offering alternative options. And she is enjoyable to work with.
>
> I would and do recommend Michelle and know she does great work.
>
> Here is a photo of a contemporary "garden studio" that she designed for a shared client on Queen Anne in Seattle.

**★★★★★ — Woodmark Homes, LLC, Oct. 2015**

> We have had the pleasure to work with Michelle at Atelier Drome on several projects over the last few years. They are a truly inspiring group of professionals, and we are delighted to have a solid working relationship with this team. Their thoughtful and thorough design approach make them an ideal partner for any architectural design project. We would highly recommend their firm.

**★★★★★ — I.L. Gross Structural Engineers, LLC, Sept. 2015**

> Atelier Drome Architecture is one of my favorite firms in Seattle. They are an excellent choice to guide and develop your project, whether you just need some remodeling help, or are building a completely new house from the ground up. I have worked with Henry, Michelle, and their growing team since 2003, and they continue to do great work. I always recommend them as one of my architects of choice whenever my clients ask for a referral.

**★★★★★ — woycke, Sept. 2015**

> I am a land use planner and project manager for a firm that worked with Michelle and Atelier Drome Architecture on a large residential project. Our experience with them was an excellent one. Atelier managed the team of engineers, planners, and arborists on the project. They were easy to collaborate with. Even though the project was a difficult one, in the end it was successful.

**★★★★★ — elif52, Sept. 2015**

> As a Restaurant and Food Service equipment specialist, I have worked on several projects with Atelier Drome. Each project was designed and orchestrated extremely well by the Atelier Drome team. In particular to note is that the team listens closely to the client, develops and executes a design based on this conversation, and then works hard to coordinate with the contractor to produce excellent results within budget.
>
> My role in these projects hinges on a partnership with the Architects to insure maximum space utilization and work flow. My experience with Atelier has been excellent and our project outcomes outstanding! I know our shared clients feel that way as well.

**★★★★★ — Brett, Sept. 2015**

> I am a structural engineer who has worked with Atelier Drome on many projects. I have always found them easy to work with, professional and very thorough. Every job seems to get their full attention. When design challenges arise they are creative and thoughtful on providing a solution that not only meets their design standards but will also remain economical.

**★★★★★ — Sam Largent, Sept. 2015**

> We hired Atelier Drome to design Flatstick Pub in Kirkland back in 2013. They did a fantastic job and we've hired them once again to design our new location in Seattle. Their quality of work, creativity, and professionalism are all exceptional. They are great coming up with ideas to help us stay within our budget. They work well with our contractors and have helped connect us with other professionals and businesses. Their ability to successfully navigate the complicated permit process has been very valuable. Best of all they are genuinely nice people and a pleasure to work with.

  - Description: Located in Washington’s San Juan Islands, this modern residence was designed as the perfect artist getaway. The homeowner spent 10 years working in finance in New York City before deciding to abandon that world to re-embrace art. Over time, he has worked, taught, and exhibited art across the country, always looking for the right combination of community and sanctuary to make his permanent home. He knew he wanted the house to serve as a retreat as well as a disciplined working environment with lo…

  - Description: This fun and functional bungalow in Seattle’s Ballard neighborhood provides a fresh start for a young couple. Entering the project, the client wanted to repurpose their previous bachelor pad for a new era of married life. Building on their directives for “white, wood, and smart uses of space,” the Atelier Drome team crafted an inventive interior that perfectly suits their adventurous lifestyle and modern taste. The design works within the existing building footprint (allowing for an expedited pe…

  - Description: This two-story floating home got a complete interior and exterior update while remaining within the original footprint. The design creates a more open space that is full of natural light and feels connected to the water and surrounding views while giving the owners a modern, custom-designed space that better fits their lifestyle. When you open the front door, you are centered on a framed view out to the water before fully entering the house which immediately sets the tone for connection to the w…

  - Description: Situated across the street from a quiet neighborhood park, this home offered the perfect location for the owners and their two small children, but the layout and square footage did not work for their growing needs. The existing one-story ranch style home was completely gutted down to the studs and the new 2 ½ story layout was designed from scratch to provide ample space for play and relaxation as a family, as well as individual children’s bedrooms and a bonus guest suite in the attic for out of…

  - Location: Seattle, WA
  - Photos: 49
  - Description: Living on the water is a unique lifestyle and the owners of this brand new houseboat couldn’t imagine living any other way. After 40 years in their first floating home, the couple was ready to upgrade the structure but knew that the location – and the view – would remain home. Beginning with the float, the homeowners personally sourced the logs from Western Washington that would provide the foundation to the new house. The design was created with efficiency in mind fitting within a compact footp…

A wall previously separating the kitchen and living room was eliminated to expand and open up the space. In the kitchen, the dark green tones of the outdoors are brought in through a teal conversion varnish on the custom flat panel cabinets. To maintain a seamless feel, all appliances includi…

  - Location: Not specified
  - Photos: 46
  - Description: Situated in Seattle’s Wallingford neighborhood, this modern home provides a fresh and refined take on farmhouse character. At just under 4,000 square feet, the newly-constructed family residence includes three stories and a full basement, making it much more spacious than the surrounding turn-of-the-century homes. Our design tucks the third story into the roofline, blending the residence’s generous size seamlessly with the scale of the neighborhood. In designing the home on its tight, sloped lot…

  - Photos: 12
  - Description: This 1950’s brick rambler was purchased by new Seattle residents’, who felt as though the home did not fit their style, so they sought to give it a much-needed restoration to make the outdated rooms, finishes, and impractical circular hallway into a design more suitable for contemporary living and the work-from-home lifestyle. The residents’ moved here from LA, and they wanted the new design to reflect the bright, Southern California aesthetic. This design story illustrates a theme of mutual con…

  - Description: This remodel project in the Sunset Hill neighborhood of Seattle was completed in two phases, seven years apart. The small changes significantly impacted this charming home, which already had great bones and a desirable location. The goal was to create a more open and functional floor plan and an overall design that could be executed over time. The main living spaces were addressed in the first phase, while the primary and secondary bathrooms were updated in the second phase. The living, kitchen,…

  - Description: This three-story single-family home is nestled near Greenlake in Seattle and was built from the ground up with the goal to accommodate a growing family while featuring a stylish contemporary design. Originally, the project was designed as a remodel, but during the initial demolition phase, it was determined that the existing home wasn’t worth saving, and instead was torn down. This also allowed the home to be relocated on the lot, accommodating ample space for the home, yard for the children to…

The walkway leading up to the front doors is inviting, and the different materials provide a fun yet subtle variance of color. The back of the house has an all-gray exterior that lets the modern design speak for itself along with a covered deck area perfect for outdoor dining. The rest of the backyard is designed to take a…

  - Location: Not specified
  - Photos: 17
  - Description: This mid-century home in Lake Forest Park was revitalized to allow for more modern expression while preserving the home’s original charm. The existing exposed beams and large expanses of glass become more of a feature once the overly large fireplace was replaced by a compact, cleanly detailed gas version. Hardwoods now flow throughout with stone at the entry. Due to the low-slung nature of mid-century modern homes, the interiors can sometimes feel dark. By tearing down interior walls and partiti…

White paint, hardwood floors, neutral tile and stone were used throughout for a clean and timeless foundation of materials for the family to build from while custom built-in shelving, bookcases, banisters, columns and ceiling details keep the home rooted in the Craftsman style. - Description: The original main level of this home was both outdated and not functional for the new family. The kitchen had a dropped ceiling and was separated from the vaulted living space by a large two-story fireplace. Opening up the rooms to bring in my more light and create a more functional space were the primary drivers. The fireplace was removed to create a completely open floorplan as well as allow for a formal dining space. The originally sunken living room was raised so that the entire space could…

## Community Q&A

**Q: Love it! Can you tell me: are the countertops 3cm or 2 cm?** *(in Photo Questions)*

A: These are 3cm quartz!

**Q: Is this a black semi-solid or semi-transparent stain?** *(in Photo Questions)*

What's the fade factor like?

A: Our recollection is that this is a semi-transparent. It definitely needs upkeep due to fading.

**Q: Where is the cable box?** *(in Photo Questions)*

A: Cables are able to be concealed in conduit within the wall (helping to hide ugly cable boxes!).

**Q: Backsplash** *(in Photo Questions)*

Love the backsplash. Where did you find it?

A: The tile is from Ann Sacks. Good luck on your project!

**Q: Great tile** *(in Photo Questions)*

What is the name of the tile backsplash and what color?

A: Hi there,
Unfortunately, it is an Ann Sacks tile that has since been discontinued.
However, here are some similar tiles- http://www.annsacks.com/products/tile-stone-mosaic/lake-garda-field-tile
Good luck and let us know if we can help with anything else!

**Q: table and chairs** *(in Photo Questions)*

Will you please tell me about this table and chairs? Love them and they seem to be the right size for what I need. Thanks!

A: You can find similar chairs from Modernica - http://modernica.net/fiberglass-shell-chairs/
