After several discussions Silva was hired to design and Project manage the remodel. > > The initial project plan was scheduled to be completed by 5/20/16, six weeks after start. Actual completion date was August 25, 2016, 24 weeks after start. Poor project management was the key cause of this delay. > > The budget was exceeded by \>20% due to some scope changes (approximately half of the increase) poor project management causing subcontractors to spend extra time, Poor quality work by the contractors causing re-work, and Silva's fee increases. Attached shows how the kitchen is framed in with a layered image of the cabinetry and island. The skylights are totally off center and with the way the trusses are already installed, I don't think we can move them. I had really wanted pendant lights over the island. Clearly, two lights won't work now as they go right up into the skylight boxes. And one light won't be centered. What the heck do I do here? Help!!! We are plan on putting house on the market and want to replace them with something a bit more durable. Cabinets are cherry and floor natural concrete. Island is maple butcher block, sink copper. We were also considering adding upper cabinets on both sides of cooktop for added storage. What color/material for counter would blend with existing finishes and hold up over time? Any suggestions would be appreciated. A: Keeping a low budget in mind, a simple grind and new sealer would do the trick. Let's not forget they are concrete counters- imperfections are ok! I think you're doing the right thing by worrying about sanitary issues first and fore most! **Q: Need some advice on paint colors for exterior! Please!** *(in Design Dilemma)* Our house is long overdue for a major paint job! I had my heart set on some shades of gray with an aqua blue door to add a little pop. Our tile roof has shades of orange and I'm worried the grays are going to look off? I am open to any paint suggestions/color options! Need to make a final decision ASAP! Most houses on the street are neutral browns....thank you! A: The best way to incorporate your desired gray is to use it as an accent color. Look for a richer brown as a good base for the overall color of the house, and "frame" the details (ie. rooflines, window fascia, etc) with your desired gray. We took out a chimney, knocked down some walls & gutted everything. She had a pantry with just a few cupboards, & the "kitchen" had a stove, fridge & table & chairs. We're trying to improve the layout! Problem is we have a fridge with double doors (3'1" wide). The space it's going in was the front entrance (we cancelled the door) We "thought" we could fit the fridge in that space, BUT then will it look funny b/c it's not aligned with the cupboards ? Also, NO idea where to fit a stove. IF we put it next to the fridge, will we be able to open the fridge doors ?? A: Per code, the requirement is only 36", however, I agree that 42" would make the space be more functional and practical in the long run. I would like to suggest that if you haven't done so already, do consult with a professional. A low commitment / cost consultation can be what you need! **Q: new island and countertops for existing kitchen** *(in Design Dilemma)* Our kitchen has clear maple cabinets and white laminate counters. While it would be nice to replace the whole thing, we're planning to keep the cabinets and add a new island -- hopefully in a different color. Any suggestions on color for the island and materials for new countertops? Also looking for other (inexpensive) ways to improve this room. thanks A: Also, changing out hardware to something other than white will go a long ways. Don't be afraid to look into a more industrial approach by looking for metal tables that can be repurposed as an island **Q: Could you please tell me the exterior paint color(s)?
