A true designer has an eye for any type of decor whether it be contemporary, traditional or transitional, and Lisa has it all along with the best personality! Sea Pointe is so fortunate to have her. The construction crew was managed by Sean, who ran the project in a timely manor and followed though with all the details. I have very high standards and I must say the quality of work was perfection and the follow though was prompt and all my construction questions were taken care of. Our initial meeting with Jacqueline, our designer, was just what we had hoped for. She put us at ease almost immediately and provided us with a much needed comfort level. Her design recommendations worked for us and we embarked on our project. She also brought in others as needed, including Jennie, the fixture design expert, to help us with electrical and plumbing selections. Jacqueline was with us from the beginning to the end of the process. She feels like family now. We also had a dedicated project manager, Ray, who coordinated the construction from beginning to end. He provided us with weekly email updates, noting the progress from the current week, as well as what was scheduled the following week. We knew what to expect as the project moved one stage to the next. He was on the jobsite regularly as well as when requested. Ray was our "one person contact". His knowledge of the work flow and timing helped us to plan along the way. Thanks also go out to others from Sea Pointe who were on the job as required, namely Adrian, Leo, and Skyler. We could always count on them. Last, a shout out to the subcontractors! Bryce did the site measurements and coordinated the electric panel upgrade. Jennie helped us select the many fixtures we needed especially lights and mirrors. > The construction phase was was in the extremely capable hands of our project manager, Jim. > Jim kept the project on track even with unexpected developments such as the drainpipe replacement requiring huge trenches thru the house and yard and the front door breaking and needing to be replaced. Neighbors commented that there was always someone working. That was Jim, shifting the schedule so any delays were minimal. Jim also improved our project with thoughtful suggestions such as moving the site of the electrical panel. He responded quickly to any questions or concerns and kept us informed of progress with weekly emails. Working with Jim was so easy, he smoothly took care of small problems before they grew larger. > Erik, John and Shane did a great job of installing all of the cabinetry. 3 different heights in the kitchen, 2 in the master bath and cutouts for wheelchair access required many adjustments. They were done thoughtfully and well. John made the custom maple trim for our exhaust hood fit perfectly and look just as I wanted it. > Jack, Pat and David were here so often and doing so much. It seemed like Jack was here every time we came by, always working hard. He took great care of us, making sure the entryway was accessible after the plumbing trenching was finished. the subcontractors SeaPointe used were excellent. The electricians, painters and plumbers were experienced and did qualify work. We paid $4,100 for design and feasibility on 7/14/21. They then estimated $1.2 million and said without the addition, the project would go below the original estimate. So we removed it and paid $3,600 for design services on 8/20/21. > > They spent 6+ months struggling with a stairs remodel and offered options with estimates ranging from $300k-$750k, the high end required additions to the stairwell and garage. They said a stairwell couldn't fit to code. We got another opinion from a stairs specialist who told us it will fit as is. I researched the codes in Laguna Beach and showed Sea Pointe. They provided an option that required no additions. > > The estimate was $390k-$515k. They told us windows, floors, and paint (previously included) would be less expensive with folks who specialized in them. We followed their advice and removed them. On 3/10/22, we paid an engineering fee of $15,300. We also made a final payment of $5,500 for interior design, all told $28,500. > > On 9/21/22, Sea Pointe delivered a final agreement at over $1 million! We told them it was unacceptable. They said it went up for two reasons: inflation and because we're on a hill. Inflation may account for 10-20% (unlikely in 6 months), it doesn't account for more than doubling the high end of the estimate. Our home has always been on a hill, their whole team (who visited many times) knew this. > > On 10/17/22, we met with the VP of client relations. She was the first to acknowledge that the team messed up. So we ended the relationship. We reached out for a month requesting plans, engineering, and design which we paid $28,500 for. They said they only make plans for their construction. After several requests they insisted we sign a waiver to get the plans. The waiver told us we could not rely on any of their work, hold them responsible for it, and it couldn't be used for construction. We got a PDF but they stamped nothing, stood behind nothing, and marked “not for construction” on every page. > > We spoke to engineers and architects to draw up new plans. As we searched for an engineer, we learned Sea Pointe used a third-party engineer not an in-house one. We asked why they didn't tell us but they had no good answer and told the engineer he had to start from scratch. Sea Pointe said this is because there’s a paragraph in their contract that says: “Per Contractor State License Board, all designs and plans are for the exclusive use of Sea Pointe Construction and are not intended for use by 3rd parties.” > > This seemed irregular, so we reached out to the board and filed a complaint. The board found they had unlicensed folks signing contracts and this part of their contract was inappropriate and had to be changed. > > Buyer beware. For this project, SeaPointe completed a beautiful built-in home office, guest bathroom/bedroom remodel, updated our hall closet storage for improved appearance and functionality, installed new baseboards, canned lights and better placed electrical outlets. Janna did not disappear! She was very accessible through the whole project with a quick email or text to answer questions before they became problems. Jude was our project manager and so incredibly capable, patient, noncomplaining, hardworking and just all-around good person. He always came up with a creative solution to issues that would arise, and always assured things were done with top-quality workmanship. > We had one major issue with the shower tile which was caused by a faulty marble tile being shipped from the manufacturer. Jude, Janna and Sea Pointe addressed the issue and handled the matter with their tile supplier and had the entire shower replaced mostly at the tile manufacturer’s cost. We were extremely impressed with how Sea Pointe worked and put their name on the line to make things right. His skill with the tile layouts is honestly pure artistry. Over time, the wooden base of the handrail had begun to rot and decay. SeaPointe and Robert were able to find an even better option than ten years ago. By the first week of May, the project was 98% complete with the exception of a few punch-list items. As with any large construction project, there were hiccups along the way, however, Tanya (designer) and Jude (PM) diligently worked with us to iron out the kinks. Jude, was on-site almost every day and on Fridays would send us a recap of the week with a heads up on what was coming down the pike. If we had to do it again, we would pay more attention to the details of the design and would include an overall design for furniture layout. James was always honest about what materials complemented others and when they did not. The only snag in our entire project came not as a result of Sea Pointe but because of an uninformed county inspector who was unaware of the safety features of modern electrical outlets we selected for the kitchen. Jim put my mind at ease, respectfully educated the inspector, and ensured electrical passed inspection. Jim was physically onsite almost every day, was always communicative with me via calls/texts/emails, and oversaw his team of incredibly talented tradesmen, who were all employed by Sea Pointe; no subs. I wasn't aware companies could take your money but not provide an agreed upon service. > We first met on January 4, 2014 at our home as our goal was to place an addition on our home. This included expanding our main living area, knocking out a closet, putting in a new closet, and moving our washer and dryer. Based on a design agreement with a written low and high estimate, we paid 10% to get our project started. Now we are in July of 2014 (6 months later) and SeaPoint is unable to complete our project within their budget. They have not even started our project. Lisa's emails contain wording such as "my sincere apologies" and has repeatedly stated via phone this is her mistake in the estimate. We have made several suggestions, such as applying our deposit to part of the proposed job or revising the initial project. For months now I receive emails stating "let me get back with you next week" and reports the project manager \\who was assigned to our project is no longer working with Seapointe. Seapointe is unable to come even close to their projected estimate or uphold their end of the agreement. Unfortunately, SeaPointe is refusing to give us a full refund. In fact, we have not been refunded any money to this date and are at this time seeking legal counsel for a resolution. My recommendation is you do not do business with this company, as they have taken our money and not started our project.
