Jeff was very easy to work with through out our project (addition). He designed the project (with all our specifications and requirements) just as we conceived it. We wanted an independent living area attached to our ranch house, which was built in 1965. People have commented that the completed addition looks like our original house, rather than looking like an addition. This was important to him in his design process. Because we imagined this new space as one in which we can "age in place," we included large doors and bathrooms to accommodate common aging issues. Jeff possessed the expertise to accomplish this goal for us. As a result, my daughter's family now resides in our original house, while we live in the new space. This proximity allows us to babysit our grandchildren, and for my daughter and her husband to look in on us in the future. Jeff's contract was straightforward and easy to understand, and allowed us to maintain our tight budget. There were no "surprises." He was very honest and up front about issues that might have exceeded our budget, and helped trim these areas without sacrificing quality. He an excellent relationship with his team of builders. Jeff was very "hands," and was present at the worksite many times each week. He was always quickly responsive in answering any questions or concerns that arose. Unlike some local building projects, the construction timeline was maintained. Although we have been occupying our new space for a few months now, I still feel I can call him if something comes up and he will attend to it. We love our space; it is exactly what we wanted, and we kept within our planned budget. **★★★★★ — MizLizzie, Sept. 2017** > It look us a long time to settle on Paradise Found for our major remodeling project —almost a year — but it was paradise found indeed. Along the way, we kissed a lot of frogs, but Mr. Wiblitzhouser was the handsome prince out of all the contractors we interviewed. All of them talked a good game and seemed superficially competent, but when you asked for specifics you got either estimates that appeared to have been calculated on the back of a bar napkin, or too many vague answers. We wanted an entirely new master bath, along with a freshening of our master bedroom. And we wanted to know when it would be done, and how much it would cost. That doesn't seem like too much to ask, and for the Wiblitzhousers, it was not. Their estimates and their drawings were explicit. Everything was done just as was promised, on time and within our budget. When we changed our mind on a couple of things, they were as flexible as possible. All their subcontractors who came on-site did a great job with one or two very small exceptions, and those were swiftly dealt with. The end result is precisely what we wanted, and it is beautiful. Even after being paid in full, the company has been meticulous in following up, and answering our every question. I only had a problem with the paint subcontractors not showing up on time once - Jeff was on them like glue. After I paid him, we had two part problems > (a faulty valve) and a heated floor thermostat. Neither were his fault, but was very much on top of sending out the right people to fix the parts (and order new ones). Anyone who is on top of things after being paid in full is someone I want to work with again. I would not hesitate to recommend him. He responded with an excellent, cost -effective, and often innovative plan for renovating a 40+ year-old house built during an era without much thought for efficiency. > > The demolition phase was done with care, preserving many components for re-use and recycling whenever possible. A new roof was installed and almost all exterior trim was replaced and restored to the original design. New hardwood floors were installed in the kitchen and powder room, and new tile in the laundry. The kitchen was thoroughly renovated, with new cabinets, granite counters, backsplash, and plumbing. Mr. Wiblitzhouser worked with us to incorporate art tile features from a Raleigh artist. The downstairs powder room and family room was completely renovated as well, including adding a new window and stone veneer for the existing brick fireplace. All downstairs floors were refinished, crown molding was installed throughout, new French doors were added for the living room, and new lighting fixtures were added throughout. One of the best parts of the renovation was turning a dated screen porch into a beautiful 3-season room. Mr. Wiblitzhouser provided an innovative design with PGT sliding windows above fixed glass windows, new pine flooring, and a beaded ceiling with decorative molding pattern. > > Just as important as updating the living areas, Paradise Found Construction did an excellent job increasing our energy efficiency and reducing water use. One of our favorite renovations was turning our single whole-house HVAC system into a dual zone system (upstairs/downstairs). This is the first time we were able to make the upstairs comfortable in the summer. A direct-vent gas fireplace insert was added for efficiency and comfort. All of the old original plumbing fixtures were replaced with Water-Sense rated faucets and 1-gallon per flush toilets. An efficient on-demand water heater replaced the old and inefficient electric heater. > > In all stages of the renovation, Mr. Wiblitzhouser worked well in managing the various sub-contractor crews, and he worked well with us to implement our design ideas and selection of components and fixtures. On several occasions he went with us to plumbing, kitchen, and tile stores to help guide our selections. He did an outstanding job in keeping us constantly informed about schedules, costs, and any issues that arose, and he provided outstanding advice regarding changes as the project proceeded. Most of all, Mr. Wiblitzhouser paid attention to every detail, from paint to molding to all aspects of construction to make sure the work was done correctly and to the highest quality. On many occasions, he worked with sub-contractors to bring their final work up to his standards, and he spent considerable time himself in working on final finishing work. > > Following the renovation, the house looks beautiful inside and out. Your thoughts are appreciated! A: Hi Donna, Thanks you for the compliment! Really not sure about the "context" in which this information was given. Here in the south, attaching (nailing) tongue and groove flooring to a plywood or OSB subfloor is standard practice. Our biggest challenge is moisture, most typically seen when the flooring is subjected to high humidity, which can occur under multiple circumstances, often seen when installing wood flooring that has an excessive moisture content. In this application, a water vapor underlayment 'paper' was put over the plywood floor before the wood flooring was installed to prevent water vapor from penetrating the wood flooring from below, the deck itself is open which allows maximum airflow. The pine will be more tolerant to "movement" than for example an oak floor. Regarding tile or stone, certainly weight and structural support is a concern. But more important is that the mortar and grout is not pliable, and so any "movement" will result in cracking, which can be caused by insufficient structural support and also rapid temperature fluctuations i.e. (warmed by sun and cooled rapidly at night. The gas fireplace could also cause excessive drying of the wood, but this is the case with gas heating in an indoor environment. **Q: Can i get away with an under-mount sink and a free standing tub** *(in Design Dilemma)* I am currently designing my bath and I will be getting a Serenity Tub (pics attached). I would like to save some money so I am was looking at doing a square under mount sink. I would really prefer the vessel sink attached, but my budget is screaming! It will cost me another $3000 just to add vessel sink and wall faucets.
