Thomas Koch was born in Mannheim, Germany. He dabbled in the arts and became a gourmet pastry chef and ice sculpture artist before moving on to Hotel Management school in Heidelberg Germany. During Thomas’ prior professions, he always was involved with some type of renovation work. After Hurricane Katrina in 2005 Thomas decided to make full time job for his passion for renovations. He brings the precision of the delicate ice sculptures and artistry from his sugar sculptures’ experience into his contract work. The Renaissance Man has now been in New Orleans for 15 years with a wife, two sons and three dogs and many happy customers.

> We had our master bathroom remodeled in November of 2022 and it went quite smoothly from start to finish. Thomas is quite reliable-showing up when he says he will, which in the construction field isn’t always the case. His crews are excellent and so courteous and careful. We had a minor incident where our marble floors were damaged but Thomas made it right. I would highly recommend him for any project.

> Had the most awful experience with the man/company out of anyone I've ever hired before.  6 months after main part of remodeling was done, I still do not have my bathroom sink hooked up, he did not repair a bedroom wall and paint bedroom, I do not have hot water in the bathtub as lines were not set up properly and the workers caused damage in multiple areas of my hardwood floors where they taped the paper down that was supposed to protect them.  Tape peels off top layer of hardwood floors when pulled up as any decent contractor should know.  Dimmer switches I asked to be put on were not put on and I had to get electrician out here months later to install new bathroom vent fan (company kept saying this had been done and "remembered doing it" but electrician confirmed it actually hadn't been done).  Company won't do anything to finish job and claims no responsibility on damage to my floors.  I ended up hiring someone to patch bedroom wall and painted bedroom myself after 4 months of waiting.  A reputable plumber is coming this week to fix the mistakes with hot water lines and finally hook up plumbing to my sink and put correct tub spout on (they didn't put on the one I purchased - just left it in box - said they "didn't see it" and bought a cheap one instead).  Also now have to pay someone to refinish floors, certainly an expense I didn't expect to have, after the damage they caused.  DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY.  He does not backup his work, oversee his subcontractors properly or even bother to finish the job.

> Hired the Renaissance Man after an accidental flood to redo a master bath shower.  Renovation is always difficult and I thought this would be worse since Christmas was upon us.  In all of my homeowner years of renovations this was the beast i've experienced.  Mr. Koch turned out to be knowledgeable and assisted me in every aspect of the work including design.  His recommendations were exactly what I was looking for.  He was reliable, responsive to all requests, reasonably priced, extremely clean in all phases of the project and brought workers into our home who were efficient and respectful of our property.  Now, 10 days after demolition day, my bathroom is beautiful and I am elated.

> We hired Renaissance Man (Thomas Koch) to redo two bathrooms and cosmetic work to other parts of the house. He personally took my call immediately and came out the same day to give an estimate. His demeanor at the first meeting was one of honesty, intelligence and a man who treats his business like the German craftsman he is. His estimate was broken down, item by item and room by room. What I particularly loved was while he would estimate what particular items might cost us, he only charges for labor to install. ABSOLUTELY NO MARKUP on anything from electrical fixtures, tiles, vanities, sinks, etc. No hidden costs at all. Not many contractors will do that!
> So —- onto the work: he started on the date we asked him to and never left the project until finished to our satisfaction. It took about 3 weeks to finish everything which was exactly what Thomas told me at the beginning. I have a home office so every day the various trades came and went, getting here at exactly 9:00 am and leaving at exactly 5:00 pm. Like clockwork - a well machined German clock, that is. As with any construction project, there were some unforeseen things (like a vent stack running through a wall we wanted to take out, some electrical issues that involved old wiring and an odd dimensioned closet that required custom folding doors) but other than that, everything went to plan and came together beautifully. Thomas came every single afternoon to inspect the day’s work. I recommend him very, very highly!
