The tree was recovered from the woods of Maryland, having fallen during Hurricane Sandy. The base was constructed to take advantage of the extraordinary character of this piece of wood, allowing the grain to flow over the waterfall leg on one side. This was accomplished by designing and building a butterfly leaf that unfolds from underneath once the table top halves are separated. This expands the table from 72" to 92" when the leaf is in use. The table is made entirely from walnut and finished with oil to bring out the beauty of the wood. It was then sealed with a high quality urethane topcoat for durability. \
