> We were overall pretty frustrated and disatisfied with our experience. The frustration grew during construction as we continued to find things that had been overlooked. It began with an initial consultation where my husband and I had a rough floor plan, elevation sketches, and pictures from inspiration homes. We also had a list of things we wanted to incorporate. We wanted to work with a professional architect to be sure we understood the feasibility of the various design elements, the cost associated with each, and that the house came together from a style and usability perspective. We specifically asked that any elements of the design that were adding significant cost be reviewed and alternatives considered. This led to removing plans for zero entry from the garage in our first discussion and eventually carving feet out of each room to dramatically reduce the square footage and bring the project into budget. I don't regret either of those decisions but in hindsight those conversations set the tone making us feel guilty somehow. At times I asked why certain choices were made such as trim details on elevations, room layouts, walls shifted etc. Usually my questions went unanswered.  I felt like a low priority project hooked by the down payment with just enough work done to collect the remainder.

We had specifically involved an architect to ensure that room for mechanicals would be accounted for to find that they really hadn't been.  Our washer and dryer and hvac chase all stack up crowding into the doorway. If the staircase had been shifted inches this wouldn't have been a problem, but we didn't find it until afte staircase was framed. We also struggled to vent to the exterior due to porch and deck positioning. After researching on houzz I have learned that there were much better options for the bathroom layouts and many key dimensions were not considered.

> In hindsight I left the first consultation having paid the downpayment and felt uncomfortable with the lack of questions they had for me, but tamped down the concerns saying they were the professionals and knew what to be asking.  We had a second effective face to face meetings where we reviewed the first draft and talked through a few problem areas brainstorming solutions and options together. If that type of open dialogue had been welcomed and occurred throughout the process I think I would have been much more satisfied.

To get a good design, the architects really must be good at listening and inserting the things they think you would enjoy and cutting waste that you wouldn't really use.  Imprint Architects went above and beyond to help us make every detail of the house something we will enjoy.  They helped us find ceiling structures we would never know about and numerous architectural features that personalizes our home for us such as arches in the wall and copper ceilings with uplighting.  Their creativity and kind listening attitudes makes all of the difference in the world with how happy you are with your home.  They are one of the best.  They always are there for you whenever you have questions. The head of the company was just at our sight yesterday to see that everything was being built correctly.

That has been a whole different experience of trying to keep them from putting up beautiful bandaids such as particle board for window trim!  To those who are building, no one is more important than your architect who personally protects you and guides your contractor.  Imprint does just that.
