Our house was built in 1978, and the downstairs had a family room connected to the kitchen via a half-wall, a small dining room, a living room and a powder room. There were few windows, and the separate rooms did not allow much light to flow. Our goal was to create a much more modern and open feeling. We met with Jerry Hicks several times to discuss our ideas, and he worked with an architect (John) to come up with a plan, Both John and Jerry were very accommodating in meeting with us at times and locations that worked for our schedules. In the end we eliminated one room, enlarged the kitchen and family room, and relocated the powder room to under the stairs. One exterior wall running the length of our house was moved out two feet, and nearly every interior wall was removed and/or moved. We upgraded the flooring, countertops, and every appliance. We added two fireplaces, one of which has glass on three sides and allows a view from the kitchen through the fireplace into the dining room. We added a 17-foot (!) kitchen island, with stools attached via hinges. Hicks construction completed all of this work within our budget, and on our timeline (roughly four months). We love the home - the house has a great plan a nice kitchen and spacious + convenient. We used Hicks to change over some of the carpeting to hardwood, paint and electrical and it was all done perfectly. Our home inspector also remarked that this was one of the better quality constructions he had inspected. We did use some other contractors for certain tasks (like upstairs flooring) because of the better bids,but all in all we are very satisfied with Hicks' professionalism, reliability and attention to details.
