> A. Mikhael is one of the best Architects we have worked with for architectural services.
> He was very professional and on top of dealing with the building department to get permits approved quickly with minimal comments or revisions.
> He completed our set of permit drawings with a quick turnaround time and made us feel like he valued us as a client.
> We will be using him on all future projects and would recommend him to anyone looking for design services. 5 star service!!!

> Andrew did an amazing job in the design and execution of my 1 bedroom apartment gut renovation. I hired him without hesitation after seeing his work on Dwell. I provided some design direction and he did the rest. He quickly came up with living spaces that are as functional as they are beautiful. He understood the spaces I find inspiring and was able to create a truly unique and magazine-worthy space I enjoy coming home to every night. Everyone who sees what he did with the kitchen is wowed.
>
> He worked hard to bring world class design and stay within my budget. We had less than 4% of construction overages over the course of the project. I highly recommend using Andrew to transform any sized space into your dream home. I would hire Andrew again if we buy another apartment or do a combination.

>

> Andrew Mikhael is nothing less than professional and detail oriented. Very easy to work with and produces excellent work. We have worked together for several years and the projects have always been very successful!

**★★★★★ — bishoyd, Jan. 2016**

> I am a builder who hired Andrew to add an addition and to remodel an the original dilapidated structure. He had excellent vision and was able to develop a functional addition that tied smartly to the structure. His work is inpeccable and very meticulous. He was accessible throughout the project and was able to troubleshoot many issues that came up during the gut renovation. I would highly recommend Andrew.

**★★★★★ — snono, Dec. 2015**

> Andrew is the one and only architect I call as he is calm, very responsive and delivers exactly what I request.
> I hired Andrew to design a private roof deck on my condo. We started with a roof area scattered with exposed vents and mechanical systems that were quite the eye sore. Andrew had the vision to transform this tight cluttered space into a peaceful retreat. I have the privacy I required without comprising my views of the city. He listened to all my needs and concerns and turned it into a space that I love, all while staying on budget.

> Andrew has great design approach to his work. He is organized, technical, and professional. Initially he created 3 innovative style options for my Financial District loft home, and I chose one that best fit what I was seeking - fresh, modern, and great flow, with an emphasis on views. He guided me through a very challenging process of choosing a contractor, getting approvals of the cooperative board, landmark and building agencies. Every step of the way he handled with swift efficiency, all on time, and he made the process easier than what I was expecting. I highly recommend him.

**Comment from Andrew Mikhael Architect:**

> Thank you, Richard. It was a pleasure working with you!

**★★★★★ — pinquito, Dec. 2015**

> I'm his biggest fan! We hired Andrew to design a kitchen and bathroom in our co-op. He crafted a beautiful and harmonious design that included everything on our wish list. He is creative, meticulous and thorough.
> He guided us through co-op board approvals, helped us to promptly obtain building permits and supervised a gut renovation. It was a delight working with him and I would recommend him I a heartbeat.

**Comment from Andrew Mikhael Architect:**

> Thank you! I loved working with you both! Glad you're enjoying the new apartment.

**★★★★★ — User, May 2014**

> Andrew Mikhael has been a pleasure to work with. We truly appreciate his professionalism and ability to communicate effectively. He is an extremely talented architect with original visions. We look forward to working with him again!

**★★★★★ — nyprojects, March 2014**

> Andrew Mikhael demonstrated his professionalism and creativity throughout the duration of the project. He articulated his vision and provided computer renderings to show how the three apartment combination would look, produced detailed drawings, and followed through with the contractor and project manager to keep the team on the same page of what needed to be achieved at every stage of the construction process.
>
> Andrew listens to the needs of the client and combines efficient space design with a clean aesthetic to optimize the final product. He is equally careful with filing appropriate documents and coordinating inspections with the contractor. I highly recommend him as he will work to make sure the client is truly happy with the outcome.

**★★★★★ — Roberta Kravette, Dec. 2013**

> As a custom kitchen specialist, I have had the great pleasure to know and work with Andrew Mikhael for almost 10 years. I've watched and participated as he has carefully grown his residential architecture practice, every project the most important project. Every client is his most important client. Andrew is not only a talented and dedicated architect - he is one who listens to his client and cares about their time, budget, life style needs and dreams for their home. Andrew creates spaces that his clients love, whether cutting-edge contemporary or tranquil and traditional, their home is always a reflection of his client's special personality combined with convince, good taste and enhanced resale value. I've worked with a lot of architects and interior designers over the years, Andrew Mikhael is the professional I recommend time after time. I am never disappointed and neither are his clients.

**★★★★★ — kes935, May 2013**

> Andrew helped us file for an Alt-2 permit with the NYC DOB. He also helped us with our co-op board package. His services included initial consultation, measurements, architectural drawings, plumbing plan, statement of work being done, filing of permit (with an expeditor), permit pulling, and other certifications required by our board.
>
> Andrew was very responsive and flexible. He was able to set up an initial consultation within 24 hours. He came prepared and measured our apartment during the consultation. We executed the contract and the first payment was made shortly thereafter.
>
> Andrew has completed all of the work in his scope and has done an amazing job. Even during the renovation process, he went above and beyond his duties and continued checking in.
>
> Andrew has provided an A+ experience and we have already recommended him to a couple of friends. He's a class act and will respond very quickly in a professional and polite manner.

## Community Q&A

**Q: Bookshelves or windows besides the fireplace?** *(in Design Dilemma)*

We are about to redo this fireplace and renovate this room. I am undecided if we should do large double hung windows on each side of the fireplace or close these up and incorporate built ins. There is a large bay window directly across from the fireplace that gets North facing light.

The paneling is being removed and we are sheetrocking and doing some floor to ceiling picture molding. 8’ ft ceilings. The ceiling fan is being removed and we are adding two sconces to the sides above the fireplace. There are 8 recessed lights in this room (4 shown in this half and 4 on the other).

I’m questioning the book shelves because the fireplace only comes out a couple of inches so unless we wanted the fireplace recessed (which we don’t), then we would have to build out the fireplace a bit.

Behind the fireplace is our screened in pool patio (just fyi) but not much if a ”view”.

Any thoughts would be so appreciated!

A: what about a bookshelf on the right side under the window that goes out as far as the fireplace hearth?

**Q: seamless countertop 13.5 feet** *(in Design Dilemma)*

I have a galley kitchen. The sink side is 13.5 feet long. It is currently 30 year old laminate with a seam. I want a seamless counter that will not crack. Any suggestions are appreciated.

A: Corian is one material that can do a seamless finish, even if the material itself is two pieces joined together. The way they 'weld' the pieces together is truly seamless. I've used it in projects where we have a column or other obstruction to work around. Example of Black Corian

**Q: Wolf Vs Miele Plumbed Steam Oven!!** *(in Appliances)*

Hello, we’re renovating our kitchen and planning to install a 30-inch plumbed steam oven above a convection oven. We’re undecided between Miele and Wolf. While we lean toward Miele, the proximity to our Sub Zero refrigerator makes us consider Wolf as well. If anyone has experience with the new Wolf Plumbed Steam Oven or Miele, we’d appreciate your opinions!
We are looking into these Ovens and steam oven models models -
Miele - DGC 7875, H 7280 BP
Wolf - SO3050TE/S/T , CSOP3050TE/S/T

A: I would pick Miele because they're so on top of every detail. Are you in a city with a Miele showroom? If so they probably have the model you want or something close on display that is hooked up for demonstrations.

**Q: beautiful room!** *(in Photo Questions)*

Where are the floor lamps from?

A: Thanks! They’re antiques that the client had before I believe.

**Q: beautiful colors and design** *(in Photo Questions)*

Please tell us the color used in living room.

A: Thanks! The walls are tarrytown green by benjamin moore.

**Q: Is this normal/how I should have expected it? Thoughts on fixing?** *(in Design Dilemma)*

We have wall-mounted faucets and a 24" vanity. Our fabricator installed the sink 4.5" from the back and 7.5" from the front. It is, of course, hideously uncomfortable to use.
My contractor uses a fabricator who doesn't provide templates or tell us what he's going to do. And unfortunately (first house, first renovation), it never occurred to me someone would ever put the sink so far back. We're being told 4.5" from the wall is standard for wall mount faucets and it's my fault for choosing a wall mounted faucet with an extra deep vanity (though I would've just bought a longer faucet if they had put the sink in a more normal place...)
So first - is this a normal/acceptable place for fabricator to put sink? Is it normal/acceptable for fabricators to not provide a template or confirm positioning?
I can't imagine there's a way to save this besides tearing it out and redo-ing it -- either with deck mounted faucet or built-in ledge. But eager for any advice on fixing... thanks in advance!

A: The faucet could have been longer, the sink ought to have been deeper front to back for such a vanity. Unfortunately this is the result of a bad design and not really the fault of the fabricator. The sink has to be under the faucet, ideally with the water hitting the center of the sink. With the depth what it is, the only way to fix it would be to swap the sink with something bigger, redo the countertop, and ideally have a wall mounted faucet that is longer. Not what you want to hear but this is why a design professional would earn their fee and be better than DIY or leaving it to contractors, especially when you break away from standard sizes.
