> I have worked with Dylan Chappell for many years on a variety of interior design and new construction projects and highly recommend him as a uniquely talented designer and consummate professional.
>
> Dylan has developed a new design system based on the principles and traditional techniques of the architectural process. This system minimizes or eliminates problems with schedule delays and unexpected costs. His standardized design methods maintain the high quality product that clients expect. At each phase he verifies the individual's critical needs so that they get everything they want in a new home. His architecture goes beyond style to provide each client with an exceptional design experience for their family and a reflection of their unique life style.
>
> Dylan is also a positive active listener and a pleasure to work with.

> When I first began working with Dylan I was skeptical of how he would help with my new house. I had taken some Autocad classes and already had a good design I liked. I'd heard stories of architects envisioning elaborate and expensive plans that didn't relate to what the home owner wanted. Working with a small budget I felt I was taking a big risk by paying for design services that I thought the contractor and I could work out. However, after seeing Dylan's first revisions to my plans, I knew I had made the right choice by getting him evolved. Not only did he improve on my ideas, he was able to get everything I wanted in less space with much needed additional storage. If you are looking for an architect that will listen to your needs, save you time and money and give you a great design, I can highly recommend Dylan Chappell.

**★★★★★ — Kim Cooper, June 2012**

> A few years ago, we engaged Dylan Chappell to design a major remodel for our home in Santa Barbara. This was a very big commitment for us and something we'd be planning on doing for a few years. Throughout the entire process, Dylan was not only a sound and innovative creative voice, but it was always tempered with reasonable, pragmatic thinking. He did a fabulous job in translating our "wants and needs" into a finished product that we've been extremely happy with. In short, as challenging as the remodel process can be, the experience and the outcome was everything we'd hoped for.
>
> Recently we'd asked Dylan for some input and ideas regarding a patio structure we've been thinking about having built. Again, Dylan was very flexible in accommodating our needs as we began to formulate exactly what it is we want. His ideas and renderings were very well thought out and communicated in a manner that allowed us to better hone in on exactly what it was we want to accomplish.
>
> Our experience in working with Dylan has been been very rewarding and always enjoyable. We highly recommend Dylan Chappell.
>
> Sincerely,

  - Description: This 5000 sq. ft. residence is heavily influenced by the historic character of traditional Santa Barbara architecture. Details from Spanish Colonial and George Washington Smith styles are prominent throughout. The house extends on the east-west axis across a sloped site, down to the ocean. Walls disappear to bring the beauty of site inside; outdoor spaces become extensions of their interior counterparts. The structure was built with materials that age gracefully and require little maintenance, s…

## Community Q&A

**Q: Online search for modern open floor plan** *(in Photo Questions)*

I'm searching for a house plan that's very simple: 2 bed; 2 bath; open floor plan; 3 car garage. Need garage to be off the kitchen/dining/living room...roof pitch needs to be 8 and metal for rain water collection...front would face northeast/ back south/west (solar panels)...it's in the country...building envelope is at the top of a hill...everything that's on line looks like it belongs in a low rent subdivision or an over-the-top gated community. I want simple. Where's that?

A: Sounds like you need some help?

**Q: what software do you use to create these lovely elevations?** *(in Photo Questions)*

A: Vectorworks

**Q: Thanks for posting this, What is the software?** *(in Photo Questions)*

Would love to know the preferred software you guys use for rendering and visualization to show your clients the work before/during design phase.

A: This is Sketchup

**Q: was this built? do you have photos of the bathroom area?** *(in Photo Questions)*

I love the toilet/shower room and the idea of having the washer and drier in that general area too, but I want to see if it works in practice as well as it looks to work in these drawings.

A: These are just job site photos but I hope they help.

**Q: Love these drawings** *(in Photo Questions)*

Very nice touch, colors and details. Overall design is beautiful, do you use sketchup. vectorworks for your images and plans?

A: These are down with Vectorworks. We also use Sketchup.

**Q: Program** *(in Photo Questions)*

I love the way you presented the layout, would you mind sharing which program you used to do this?

A: Vectorworks.
