We are a service-oriented architectural firm specializing in historic preservation and restoration, as well as residential new construction and alterations throughout Northern California. We also write and prepare Historic Structure Reports, and other historic resource studies. We have a LEED Accredited Professional certification, and enjoy working on interesting buildings of all types, and emphasize collaboration between owner, builder and architect. Architecture is a team sport!

Tom Hardy has worked in architecture since the day after graduating from U.C. Berkeley and has been a licensed architect since 1982. His first job was working for master architect Birge M. Clark, FAIA in Palo Alto, and he later worked for more than 15 years with Page & Turnbull in San Francisco, specializing in historic architecture projects. Tom is easily distracted by vintage Italian bicycles, antiquarian books, and old clocks. In keeping with his respect for history, belief in using things thoroughly, and ardor for outstanding mechanical design, he drives a 50-year old Alfa Romeo 'Berlina'. Tom is also the curator of the \[virtual\] Museum of Obsolete Drafting Technology.

**★★★★★ — G K, May 2020**

> I wholeheartedly recommend Tom Hardy if you are looking for a top notch architect in the San Francisco Bay Area.
>
> My wife and I had not worked with an architect before and Tom came to us through a recommendation from long-time friends. During the course of our three-year project (from first introduction to ribbon cutting) Tom has been creative, insightful and patient. This was our first major home remodel thus we placed a lot of trust in him. He clearly set expectations of the design and construction process. His knowledge is impressive, spanning the city and relevant resources including general contractors and interior designers with whom he enjoys an excellent reputation. While the design process comes to a close, Tom stays on top of the project, troubleshooting and communicating well with the general contractor we selected. His knowledge of navigating the city’s planning department and permitting process was also super helpful. We found that Tom's skills extended beyond the expected into areas of tremendous benefit as we took on this project. You can count on Tom to be in your corner in the process.

**★★★★★ — North Bay Construction, LLC, Dec. 2019**

> We, as a General Contractor Company, can't be more happy to work with Tom.
>
> He is an excellent architect, always on top of everything, very quick in his replies replies and make our work so much easier.
>
> We highly recommend him.

**★★★★★ — Plath & Company, Feb. 2015**

> We have known and worked with Tom Hardy for over thirty years, the most recent being a project in Presidio Heights in San Francisco. Tom is professional, amiable, creative and all around excellent architect. He knows the issues, foibles, nuances and joys of the old and historic home and how to get the most out of your remodel or restoration. From a contractor's point of view he provides well documented and thought out drawings, is a creative problem solver and has a collaborative spirit. We highly recommend him for your next project. Steve Plath
