**★★★★★ — Linda Phegley, May 2017**

> Simply put, Jack is an exceptional landscape architect. His designs are inventive and original, contextual to the environment. He produced two remarkable drafts for my project, which we combined to develop a final, beautiful design.
> When it came time to bring the design to fruition, every contractor I interviewed was ecstatic at the opportunity to work with Jack's vision, and thoroughly impressed with the quality of Jack's technical skill.
> Three years later, and I still experience elation each and every time I enter the space, or look out onto it from inside my home from every window. I entertain regularly and have hosted two weddings, and my guests are always expressing interest and enthusiasm in the space and design. I could not be happier.

**★★★★★ — Patricia Kochel, April 2017**

> If you want the best landscape architect, you will want Jack. After interviewing eight architects to design my yard, I chose Jack. I am so glad I did. I told him the look I wanted for my yard and he came up with a plan that even after several months makes my heart quicken when I look out my windows and see that plan in place. Jack is brilliant, creative and demanding. I felt comfortable with fully embracing his vision because every detail matters to him and he was always right about color, placement, everything. If you could see the before and after pictures of my yard, you would see what an artistic gift Jack has. Fly him across the country if you have to. He's worth it.

**★★★★★ — Dylan Chappell, May 2013**

> I highly recommend Jack for your next landscape project. He is an established expert in the field and I continue to rely on him for creative and innovative designs. Jack is a great listener, is a team player, and would be an asset to your project. Give Jack a call today!

> Encountering Mr. Kiesel's work - when contracted to write and photograph a piece for Ventana Monthly Magazine - I was very much impressed by his enthusiasm and the extensive knowledge he displayed concerning his craft. So rich was his understanding that he became the article's primary focal point, which highlighted the benefits of utilizing native flora when landscaping residential, commercial, and public properties. Mr. Kiesel's attention to detail, flow, and continuity provides a pleasing symmetry to the projects he is contracted to undertake and does much to underscore the passion he brings to his profession. It is with enthusiasm that I would recommend Jack Kiesel to anyone considering a new look to enhance their property/ies.

## Community Q&A

**Q: What is the hard sandy looking surface called?** *(in Photo Questions)*

is it okay in rain and snow since I have a dog.

A: Hi, that is stabilized decomposed granite aka DG. You want to add stabilizer if you plan to use it as a walking surface. We omit the stabilizer (common binders are cement, tree resin and psyllium husk) and use it more as a mulch for areas designated for planting. If you add enough stabilizer, it should be hard enough to withstand rain, snow and dogs. It is not completely maintenance free. Some runnelling can, however, occur over time. It is not difficult to retill and compact the surface as needed. If you are in an area of poor drainage, crushed gravel might be a better option.

**Q: what type of ornamental grass is in this photo?** *(in Photo Questions)*

I’d like to know the type of ornamental grass.

A: Pennisetum orientale 'Karley Rose'

**Q: Interesting design....question** *(in Photo Questions)*

What is the material you used for the driveway/entry.....I am in Westlake Village stuck with 1978 red brick :( I like this look...:)

A: Hi, that is an existing exposed concrete aggregate driveway with 2 to 3" open sawcut joints filled with gravel. The joints were brick originally. Hope that helps.

**Q: Is this Alphone Karr? Thank You** *(in Photo Questions)*

A: Yes it is.

**Q: love the lush palms near the fence** *(in Photo Questions)*

this is one of my favorite garden designs EVER. i study the look and gaze at it, it's so tranquil. are those fishtail palms near the fence or are they bamboo? thanks!

A: Hi, I am thrilled to hear you love the look of the garden! Those are Alphonse-Karr Bamboo lining the wall.

**Q: Brick or CMU?** *(in Photo Questions)*

Is that CMU? Thanks

A: Yes, the walls are both CMU.
