**★★★★★ — John C. Sanders and Company, April 2016**

> Heather and her team are extremely organized which, as the builder, I really appreciate! They did a lot of pre-planning which made the process smoother, better and more efficient for all involved. And for the install she had a team there managing the process and making sure everything was just right prior to the customers move-in day. She has great taste and did some really unique things that you don't see very often. Great job!

**★★★★★ — Bella Pools by Design, Oct. 2015**

> In the Spring of 2014, we had the pleasure of working with Heather selecting the final materials and patterns on a very detailed swimming pool project. Being heavily involved in the home's interior, Heather's intimate knowledge of this client's style helped us to surpass every expectation and deliver the pool of their dreams. Heather brings stunning ideas to a project and is quick to find solutions and compromise. We highly recommend her and look forward to working with her in the future...

**★★★★★ — CAN Decorative Painting Inc., Aug. 2015**

> We consistently have the pleasure of working with Heather Garrett Design. As professional paint contractors communication is key and with HGD this never an issue. We are fully aware of the scope of work and the deadline to complete the work well ahead of time.
> Her designs are always innovative, elegant and classic. The end result is always spectacular and a great addition to our portfolio of work as well.
> We would highly recommend HGD to any new potential client- residential and commercial.
>
> It's always a pleasure to work with HGD!

**★★★★★ — Gina Hartness, Aug. 2015**

> I hired Heather Garrett after finding her impressive portfolio on Houzz. Her firm successfully implemented my vision for our home from over 200 miles away, and while we were renovating and moving! I enjoyed my collaboration with Heather and she was able to translate my thoughts and vision into a fabulous result of form and function. I am looking forward to further projects with this brillant designer and her talented team!

**★★★★★ — mljhirsch, July 2015**

> After working with Heather on a few discreet projects, we decided to trust her with our entire house when we moved. She could not have done a more brilliant job. I love the fact that she listened to what we wanted for each room and the house generally then came up with an entire plan without having to consult us too frequently. She was extremely open to changing items that we weren't comfortable with, and in the end, the house incorporated many details that we had asked for specifically and a number of things we didn't even know we wanted. She is also very budget-conscious when given a limit, unlike many designers I have heard about from friends. We have been living in the house for almost a year now, and we are constantly complimented on the decor because it is so unique, with pieces that you simply don't see in every house. From color to texture, she thinks of all aspects, keeping it interesting and personal to your style and needs. I couldn't recommend her more.

**★★★★★ — fulllotuswellness, June 2014**

> I live in Durham, NC and work in many homes as a Personal Chef & Health Counselor. Heather Garrett has designed many of my clients homes and her work is even more amazing in person! I especially am most impressed with her ability to make a kitchen showcase ready while making it functional. If you can work with Heather, don't waste anymore time- contact her quickly and get her on her calendar. - Clarissa

**★★★★★ — babypumpin1, Jan. 2013**

> Her designs are so beautiful! I can't believe someone with her expertise is local in my area. I have actually never used her services, but it is my dream to hire her eventually! I met her once in her office, she is so sweet. Saving my money for a possible paint consultation.

  - Description: After having worked with the owners on the redesign of their home in Durham, NC, we were invited to design and oversee the renovation of this storied Georgian-style home in Dallas. Built in 1948, this traditional brick home with its slate roof and Georgian architectural details now stands at 7,400 sf after a 1970 remodel, and it was the residence of Ross Perot Jr. and his family in the 1980's. Today, tradition meets the unexpected in our makeover of this Georgian gem with an abundance of harmoni…
- [Family Chic](https://www.houzz.com/hznb/projects/family-chic-pj-vj~1084624)

  - Photos: 22
  - Description: Young newlyweds were looking to transform their home into a chic, sophisticated space for both relaxation and entertaining friends and family. Our approach was utilizing materials that were both luxe and livable, taking into consideration pets and a baby on the way! The renovations were all about creating a spaces for entertaining. The compartmentalized main living spaces were opened up with the help of a structural engineer. A bearing wall and two outdated columns were replaced by steel beams t…

  - Location: Not specified
  - Photos: 23
  - Description: For this young family, a difficult question: how to honor the rich history of their deeply Southern roots (many generations in NC, with the accompanying traditions and memories and antiques) while embracing a more casual lifestyle appropriate for them? And how to end up with something that didn’t feel like their grandparents were about to move in? The clients, a couple of avid entertainers with loads of knowledge in the fine arts and a carefully curated modern art collection between them, wanted…

  - Location: Not specified
  - Photos: 35
  - Description: The chance to build a lakeside weekend home in rural NC provided this Chapel Hill family with an opportunity to ditch convention and think outside the box. For instance, we traded the traditional boat dock with what's become known as the "party dock"… a floating lounge of sorts, complete with wet bar, TV, swimmer's platform, and plenty of spots for watching the water fun. Inside, we turned one bedroom into a gym with climbing wall - and dropped the idea of a dining room, in favor of a deep uphol…
- [Remodeling Luxe](https://www.houzz.com/hznb/projects/remodeling-luxe-pj-vj~550467)
  - Location: Not specified

  - Description: How to help a young couple who loved the location and bones of a traditional home, but wanted a decisive shift in its decor and vibe to modern luxe? Begin by pulling down the 2-story walls of oak paneling, heavy fireplace mantle, and scraping out the dimly lit kitchen. Opening the kitchen into the family room and reworking the architecture of the space was the solution to creating the fresh feeling we were after. Photos by John Bessler

  - Description: This gracious home, designed and built 20 years ago, was ready for an update. Our client hoped to preserve the southern traditional charm, while bringing a house full of kids, friends, dogs, and grandparents (living next door) current with the way they live today. We delivered, through bullet-proof materials and space plan which incorporated elegance with sensibility. Photos by John Bessler
- [Bespoke Beauty](https://www.houzz.com/hznb/projects/bespoke-beauty-pj-vj~555594)

  - Photos: 10
  - Description: For a family wanting a dramatic entry and dining room, but with requirements that it be an indestructible venue for weekly brunches with guest lists including small children! Our first solution was to create a contrasting border integral to the hardwood floor, in lieu of an area rug. From there, we introduced furniture in resilient materials such as fiberglass chairs and a locally made custom table of Heather's design in reclaimed hardwood, steel and acrylic. Luxurious drapes, dramatic accessori…
- [Heather's Loft](https://www.houzz.com/hznb/projects/heather-s-loft-pj-vj~553298)
  - Location: Not specified
  - Photos: 31
  - Description: Turn a 1,100 s/f warehouse loft into a spacious 3 bedroom/2 bath apartment? With some solid geometry and careful space planning, Heather did just that. Her growing family needed more space (her children, 10 and 12, were now too old to share a room), and a single bath was definitely not cutting it. With 21' high ceilings, there was room for a badly needed second level. So Heather designed a floating staircase using locally reclaimed pine from neighboring warehouses, leading to a pair of bedroom w…

  - Description: Chef Matt Kelly's Mateo Tapas was nominated as a semifinalist by the James Beard Foundation, just a few short months after opening. HGID was hired to take the upper dining room of this historic building from dilapidated to extraordinary. Luxurious textures combined with reclaimed NC farm materials to land the look. - [In The Bedroom](https://www.houzz.com/hznb/projects/in-the-bedroom-pj-vj~654930)
  - Location: Not specified

  - Description: A bedroom should not be too precious or perfect. We loved to combine tousled linen with smooth silks and well-worn vintage rugs to create inviting, comfortable sanctuaries that balance glamour with just a touch of the rough-hewn.
- [Tudor Revival](https://www.houzz.com/hznb/projects/tudor-revival-pj-vj~405362)
  - Location: Not specified
  - Photos: 32
  - Description: Top priority for this young couple, having recently leap-frogged from cozy salt box to rambling tudor estate, was the creation of a nursery for their first child (arrival eminent!). Next up? Imbuing the grand scale with intimate charm, in a family-oriented common space to accommodate baby plus their three dogs! Blending his love for all things rustic, and hers for a “glam-sophisticate” splash or two, the result is a beautiful and practical space fit for the whole tribe.

  - Location: Not specified
  - Photos: 20
  - Description: While this home has a distinctively modern style with a nod toward its mid-century roots, the hardworking homeowners wanted it to have the feel of a high-end hotel experience.
- [Durham Georgian Dream](https://www.houzz.com/hznb/projects/durham-georgian-dream-pj-vj~401504)
  - Location: Not specified
  - Photos: 13
  - Description: A growing family, a rambling Georgian estate. The question: how to imbue tradition with a fresh spirit? The charge was to maintain the idea of old school charm without the interior feeling just… old. An illustration could be found in picture molding (which we added, then painted to disappear into the walls) or a modern plaster sculpture teetering upon an old barrister bookcase. Charm, with a wink.

  - Description: After a lifetime in San Francisco, a painter-and-professor couple moved east to Chapel Hill, NC. They settled on a house set on a leafy lot with plenty of natural light and the opportunity to create space for entertaining faculty and new friends alike. They brought with them an important art collection assembled over the years...and also differing tastes in decor. This designer's task was to merge, integrate, and create. And now, all is well in the woods.

  - Description: After the proprietor found an Art Deco bar in perfect condition, located for sale from its original establishment in Queens NY, he was inspired. For this venture, he would evoke his passion for early 20th Century American design, music, and culture. This would be an environment recalling a “more decent time of proper cocktails, proper dress, when people savored time together.” There would be a piano, drinks would be made from scratch, Nina Simone and Billy Holiday would be played, the feeling da…
