- Description: Approx. 800 total square feet This guest cabin is adjacent to a family cabin, and was inspired by barn architecture and camp bunkhouses. It’s built around a central room that combined a timber trussed roof, living and dining areas, a sleeping loft and an efficiency kitchen complete with dishwasher, microwave, and a stacked washer/dryer. Off either side are bedrooms with built-in beds, a full bath, a screened porch and an open porch. Low maintenance exterior materials kept costs low and blend nic…

## Community Q&A

**Q: what are the pillars and posts made of?** *(in Photo Questions)*

Are the pillars a real stone or is it some sort of laminate? I am looking for that look without the expense of real stone.

A: Hi Kimberly. The stone on the foundation and the piers is a nominally 6" thick stone veneer of native stone around a poured concrete column. The column cap is poured concrete. Hope this helps.

**Q: how about water splash** *(in Photo Questions)*

does water splash when showering out of a galvanized wall? thank you very much

A: This shower was designed as a weather barrier and all splashed water that contacted the wall was channeled back onto the shower floor. The bottom edge has a flash detail below the end of the metal to contain any water at that level. The floor sloped both ways to a linear drain (the end is just seen in the lower left of the photo.

**Q: Paul Morse, interior designer** *(in Photo Questions)*

I am curious, in what part of the country is this home located?

A: It is in the USA.

**Q: Hi – I love this! Is there a floor plan available? Thanks!** *(in Photo Questions)*

A: Hi, an thanks for the inquiry. This house was a VERY site specific design. The lot sloped at about 40% grade, and the views were primarily toward the side opposite the road access. The Dining Room and deck were designed to frame views of Mt. Mitchell (highest point east of the Mississippi) to the North. So it was designed for an extremely unique lot. Most of my work is for unique projects. I'd be happy to talk to you about one for your lot if you are interested in learning more about the process.

**Q: closer up exterior pics?** *(in Photo Questions)*

do you have closer up pictures of exterior windows or doors? interested in how they are painted with the green and curious about door color

A: Sorry I missed your question. The windows and doors are all aluminum clad wood by Semco. I don't recall for sure which color they were, but I believe it was Hunter Green.

**Q: Who is the window manufacturer please?** *(in Photo Questions)*

Love the windows

A: They were manufactured by Sun Windows and Doors: www.sunwindows.com
