**Q: Ipe Tongue and Groove Installation Tips??** *(in Porches & Decks)*

All,
I am soon to start installation of an Ipe T&G (1x4) floor on my screened porch. And am looking for installation tips and any related advise/thoughts.
THE FACTS

1\. The material is kiln dried 1x4 Ipe T&G.

2\. It has been in my basement since May--porch construction took longer than planned :-(.

3\. To acclimatize the wood, I brought it outside last week, stacked it with spacers and kept 2 feet from ground and dry from rain with tarp.

4\. I'm in Atlanta, still summer here and temp and humidity are high (though a littler lower than typical for peak summr in Atlanta).

5\. Porch deck is 2-4 feet off ground.

6\. Porch is 14x18 ft., open 3 sides with 14 ft. run against house. The area gets good cross ventilation.

7\. Planned fasteners are SS \#8x2 Trim Head screws.

8\. T&G is being installed within a "picture frame" border of 1x6 Ipe decking
THE QUESTIONS

1\. How tightly should the boards fit to each other?

2\. Any end gapping necessary?

3\. What (if any) gapping should there be between ends of T&G and Picture Frame-border?

4\. I assume pre-drilling is necessary for the screws. Must they also be counter-sunk to get the head deep enough to allow tongue into the groove?

A: Question, we have ipe Brazilian walnut t& G on a covered screen porch. We installed in the beginning of summer and it has been three months since install. We also have had over six-10 inches of rain, a hurricane etc. We noticed today that the floor has expanded so much it has moved the brick of the house and also the footings over at least an inch! Is this happened to anyone else? Also worried about this winter and it shrinking up a-lot? Anyone experienced this? Its on our personal home and not a customers thank god. Also the posts that were plum on the porch have all moved an inch. Let me know your thoughts!
