**Q: Help me decorate my new home!** *(in Design Dilemma)*

My husband and I are building a home and I am starting to think about decorating. We are going to have a beautiful two story great room and I am really struggling coming up with ideas. The picture below is similar to our home (minus the fireplace). I am just unsure what to do with such tall walls and windows! Thanks for your help :)

Not sure how what to add next to the TV or the wall right to the wall, any help please?

A: Do you need any storage? A dark wooden bookcase would look nice.

We are currently putting in a new kitchen.  The quotes for granite blew me (and our budget) away.  I'm not particularly fond of granite to begin with, but am wondering if it would be totally stupid to install a laminate countertop in a new kitchen?

A: Laminate has come along way and comes in many colors. Do your kitchen as your budget allows. Just keep in mind if you plan on selling in the near future, laminate might not be the best idea.

**Q: Chicagoland Interior designer/decorator** *(in Design Dilemma)*

We are building a house in the chicago suburbs and once we are done, we are thinking we need to have someone come and help look at the furniture we do have, what we need, the style of the house built and help us in big rooms (ie. family room, dining room, kids playroom, office).  What do interior decorators typically cost?  How much in furniture do we need to be willing to spend to make this worth it?  We love the high end look but not necessarily the high end price!  Any suggestions?

**Q: Curtains or blinds?** *(in Design Dilemma)*

Trying to decide what to dress the windows in this room with. It's the spare bedroom in an old cottage and we'd like to keep the style as original as possible but with a bit of an eclectic twist If possible. Thanks for all advice

A: You could always keep the binds that you have, and add a curtain in a side swipe to dress it up a bit more. So the blinds will control the light and the curtain is decorative.

**Q: Would an accent wall be too much? If not, what wall paper?** *(in Design Dilemma)*

This is the design of my room and I've decided to go with a light or lavender grey color for the walls. Would an accent wall behind the bed be too much? Or does anyone have any suggestions on the wall paper I should use?

A: If you were to keep the accent wall more neutral it will work.  Find a paper that is along the same color tone as your wall color choice. Accents walls don't have to be bold with color, keep in mind the pattern and texture.
