I love the colors and its uniqueness. In an effort to reduce costs and recycle we bought a used vanity. Hubby wants to know what color for the countertop and also should we paint/stain the base? I'd like to keep the sink as a focal point while using complimentary colors that are flexible. I don't want to be stuck with a "theme", as I enjoy changing the decor often. What do you think? A: Oh .. I only see one pic on my phone app. Sorry. **Q: Front door paint** *(in Design Dilemma)* In between the side lights. Would you paint those white strips blue? Not the trim around the door, that will stay white. I feel like the white brakes up the door and it would look more grand if it was all blue. Thoughts? A: You did a great job with the overall color choices. The advice I give to clients is that if you want to have something stand out then accent it otherwise blend it in. So for your entry I would say if you want the door itself to be the focal point with its detail then that would be blue with the side lights and frames white, next choice would be the middle frames white with side lights blue, then all blue. The all blue accents the total entry area but I lose the door a little when all blue. The best thing is that you have 3 great options and all look good, it just depends on what you want to stand out the most. Here is a recent home we did and only the door is accented. **Q: new trim colors** *(in Design Dilemma)* Just bought this house. Body of the house color is bluestone. It's okay but definitely need better trim and door color. A: We are painting a lot of garage doors/frames the body color because are not wanting to call them out or highlight them. So that would drive the decision on the white peak, it is highlighted now and if you want it to blend then paint it the body color, which is what I would do. I agree not to use a stained door especially if you face the sun most of the day. You would have to clear coat the door every 6 to 12 months to prevent damage to the stain. With a gray body color we are painting a lot of doors black especially since you have a large surround on the front door that is white already, if door was white this might make that to much white. If you decided to not paint garage doors body color I would not have them match the front door, let that be the accent color, so other choice is white for garage doors. We need to get it sealed and have been thinking about using the Behr Deckover product. It's a really large deck and hope if we use Deckover, it will last for several years, and not waste our time and dollars for something we'll be disappointed in. I especially would like to hear from some one who might have used this last year and let me hear how it's holding up. We live in north central Texas and our deck faces the south, we have some shade and some areas in the hot sun all day. Would appreciate any info. Note. Last year I did use DeckerStore on the cap rail, looks nice, but I used four coats to get it good and sealed, just don't want to use it on the floor deck boards. A: You do not want to paint or use a product the creates a film. You will not be able to coat all six sides of the boards and moisture will find its way into the wood and when the sun comes out the moisture will push off any coating that creates a film. I agree with others on the use of a stain since that will soak into the wood and minimize the issue of not being able to coat all six sides. Sherwin makes a product called Deckscapes and we prefer the solid stain version. It is rated for horizontal surfaces where Woodscapes is vertical. If you want to show the grain you could use Sikkens or Pennefin, these companies specialize in wood staining and make some great products. Deckscapes is easy maintenance and recoating is simple , just add another coat. Some of the stains seal and to recoat properly they have to be sanded off before recoating. Sikkens is designed for annual maintenance and can be recoated without stripping it at least the SRD product. Just be sure what you put on is rated for horizontal and has some UV protection. One last thing the HD product has a low coverage rate and so you will use a lot more material than with other choices.
