They responded to our plea for help right away, working rapidly and efficiently, with an excellent end product at a reasonable price. **Q: Why is grout darkening on shower floor?** *(in Design Dilemma)*

New shower. Grout was sealed. Why is grout darkening in spots? Thank you in advance!

A: Could be the polymer from the Thin Set leaching up, if modified thin set was used.

**Q: Basement renovation** *(in Design Dilemma)*

We are planning to renovate a portion of our basement into a family room so our teenage boys have an extra space to hang out with their friends. We would like to do this with an industrial type look, including keeping the ceiling open and painting it black.  We would like to use transparent paint on the concrete walls. Has anyone ever done something similar? We also want to put a small dry bar for snacks, etc. Has anyone ever done a concrete bar? This may go with our industrial look.

A: If you are clear coating the foundation walls, I would consider climate heat loss and gain, exterior moisture control. Concrete conducts both hot and cold and is not water proof. Sealed concrete can bluster off the finishes if any of the above conditions transpire. Insulation and waterproofing the exterior may be required.

**Q: How do you make a ceiling look higher?** *(in Design Dilemma)*

A: Hello Helen, if you are considering adding some millwork. You could keep the crown moulding shy of the ceiling and bring the ceiling colour down onto the wall above the new crown.
