> If I could encapsulate LVX Painting in one word, it would be “professionalism.” We recently hired LVX to paint the exterior of our Victorian-era home. From estimation through completion, every aspect of the relationship was exceptional. They repaired rotten and damaged trim to like-new condition. They used highest-quality paint and materials. They worked quietly and constantly, and cleaned up daily. Their attention to detail was outstanding. The crew was unfailingly polite. They did more than asked, such as painting the mailbox and basement door.

> LVX has a reputation in our community—an historic district where appearance matters—for being the best painters around for both exteriors and interiors. It’s easy to understand why: They’re complete professionals.

> I would highly recommend LVX painting! My experience with the owner and all the people working for him was a wonderful one. Randall and his team of painters are very honest, hard working and obviously proud of their craft. They had a large job to do, in painting the whole inside of my home, which is a church that was restored 20 or so years ago. They paid attention to the small and important details of the job which included painting the original ceiling, painting around original stain glass windows and around other historical aspects of the home. They carefully and professionally prepared all the surfaces they were to apply paint on before bringing out a brush, having to fix plaster cracks and drywall. They removed wallpaper in several of the rooms and were able to restore the walls so that there was no recognizable sign that any of them had ever been wallpapered. They were responsive to all my requests and went above and beyond reaching into areas of the home to paint that were extremely difficult to access. Any time I asked if something could be done they were willing to do their best to make that happen. I never heard the word, we can't do that... just we will try and see if that is possible. They always found a way to make it work out! I can't say enough about their meticulous attention to all aspects of the job and their desire to make sure I was pleased with the outcome!!

> I had my interior and exterior of my house painted by LVX, not only were they on time they went above and beyond to make sure I was happy. We own a home built in the 1800's so making sure the job is done right is a must in a historic home and historic district.

  - Description: We are fortunate to have been selected to do some painting at the Heritage Village Museum in Sharon Woods, just north of Cincinnati. This museum contains authentic buildings from Ohio in the early 1800s. We are carefully and lovingly restoring some of the buildings, starting with the Elk Lick House, originally from the east fork of the Little Miami River in Clermont County. ## Community Q&A

**Q: Love the bluish gray. What was the paint color used here?** *(in Photo Questions)*

A: blue

**Q: storm door? yes or no** *(in Design Dilemma)*

Hi,
I have been trying to decide on a new color for my front door, and looking thru all the pictures that I love, I noticed that not a SINGLE one has a storm door.... can you share your opinions on that? In my neighborhood, every house has one.

A: Storm doors are fairly modern innovations. They're very practical, but can be ugly as sin, especially the cheap kinds. We put an all-glass storm door on our house, which shows off the beautiful oak door behind it. Not much point in putting a lot of design into a door that can't be seen.

**Q: Cabinets and Woodwork MISS!** *(in Design Dilemma)*

I picked a beautiful knotty hickory for kitchen cabinets. My builder assured me that the knotty alder trim and wood doors would pair well with the cabinets. Unfortunately, there are two misses. The woods are not compatible and the stain on the alder is too dark. What can be done? At this point, it is probably more feasible to work with the cabinets. Although I love the cabinets, I have considered painting them black and giving up the beauty of knotty hickory. HELP!

A: I'm not sure which wood was which, but you can always stain over a lighter color to make it darker. The reverse doesn't work, obviously.

**Q: Need Help Choosing Exterior Paint** *(in Design Dilemma)*

Currently a mocha/mauvish brown that I don't like. I have a red door that I like. I wanted black or grey, but I think I may have to stay in the brown family. What do you think? The house is mostly siding.

A: I think a rich black would set off your brick very nicely.
All you show there is one small wall. Colors on big areas can become over-powering. If you've got a lot more area to paint, black might be too much. For a customer who said he wanted a black house, we painted his walls a dark gray and then used black trim colors along with some purples to give a sense of black without turning it into a lump of coal.

**Q: Looking for a contrast color** *(in Design Dilemma)*

What would be a nice contrast color to use with a White Dove or China White of Benjamin Moore? House is a spacious and a lof of lighting. We want to paint the whole house with one of those two whites and find a contrast color to use in a few walls.

A: With that much white, I'd suggest a very light contrast. Maybe a nice cool gray.

**Q: Need advice for kitchen paint color, please!** *(in Design Dilemma)*

My family room is gold/brown. Foyer is gold. Dining room is blue. What color should I paint my kitchen? I have oak cabinets, so I don't want to bring out the yellow/orange in them. Here they are. :)

A: There are so many options for your kitchen it's hard to pick a color for you. Clearly you like a lot of color in your home. Carrying the blue over, as mentioned above, is one easy idea. Personally, I'd paint it white enamel. That would make it easy to clean, brighten the room (which seems a little dark, although that might just be the photo), and provide a lot of contrast with the cabinets and appliances.
