Colorado Cottage & Deck founder, Mike Ralph, began his career in construction more than 20 years ago working on additions, remodels and some roofing projects. After honing his skills building decks and framing homes in the Evergreen and Conifer area for several years, Mike and his wife, Tara, moved to Alaska where he spent eight years enjoying the outdoors and working on large commercial construction projects. One of his favorite projects was the “Museum of the North” at the University of Alaska, Fairbanks, of which he was foreman of the framing crew. His career has spanned projects from the detailed carpentry of small residential designs to the project management of large commercial building projects including museums, hospitals, big-box stores and fish hatcheries.

Upon the birth of their daughter, Mike and Tara returned home to Colorado in order to be closer to family. Mike has since returned to his roots of fine quality residential craftsmanship. He does take on some light commercial construction projects as well. Mike still wears his tool bags and is the lead carpenter on all projects. This hands-on method allows Mike to ensure high quality craftsmanship 100% of the time. Colorado Cottage & Deck is the culmination of many years spent immersed in the building industry. Mike’s past history of leading crews and project management has led to an ability to create and maintain positive relationships, which is necessary to maintain an environment for efficiency and effectiveness, and thus, satisfied customers.

The trust we had in the people who did our kitchen was 100% accurate when it came to the guys who rebuilt our deck. They worked diligently every day, sometimes in inclement weather. Mike included us in every decision that needed to be made including the times extra materials were required. Both guys were respectful at all times, and their work ethic was exemplary. **Q: Siding** *(in Photo Questions)*

This always seems to be glossy. Does it have to be finished in gloss or is that a personal preference.

A: This siding can be finished in any paint sheen that you desire.  However, a high sheen or glossy finish will provide better UV and weather resistance and is easier to keep clean.

**Q: what color is the lp smartside shakes and lap siding?** *(in Photo Questions)*

A: These are custom colors.  LP SmartSide can be prefinished in any color you choose prior to installation.

**Q: Help with outdoor flat deck or roof off master bedroom** *(in Other)*

Live in Colorado and need to put down a new roof or deck material on a flat roof off of a master bedroom.  Would like it to be more attractive than simply black tar. It has a wood railing surrounding the flat part of roof.

A: Ipe deck tiles are a great solution for covering a flat roof.
