Melanie Roy’s passion for the creative arts drew her into the fashionable world of interior design and a successful second career. After 15 years in the television industry, including 10 years at HBO where she received two Cable Ace awards for Producing on The Chris Rock Show and Politically Incorrect with Bill Maher, she went on to produce her greatest achievements, two sons, with her husband. This led her to turn to the design world and her career as an interior designer, creating family-friendly residences. As she says, “I have a passion and depth of knowledge for designing family homes that are truly functional and comfortable while also being beautiful and stylish.”

Raised in New York City, Melanie graduated with a BA from Emerson College where she studied Communications and Art History. Following her successful career in television, she went back to school at the New York School of Interior Design when she decided to make her career change, pursuing her passion for design. After working with Cullman & Kravis, she started Melanie Roy Design based in New York City and the Hamptons that today handles full interior design services also encompassing new construction, renovation, and architectural design. Melanie is versed in all periods and styles but designs for her clients’ tastes with a focus on creating family-friendly residences that are sophisticated, elegant and timeless while still being functional. To date, her work has appeared in Traditional Home, NYC&G, Newsday, The Southampton Press, and the TV show, NBC Open House.

> Can't say enough good things about Melanie.  We were first time renovators and thought we could do it ourselves with a contractor.  We soon found out we were in way over our heads on our kitchen and master bath gut renovation.  We interviewed a bunch of interior designers with our kitchen and bathroom torn apart.  Melanie stood out from the rest, she understood our needs and desires and we felt comfortable that she knew what she was doing and we needed someone to manage the process, as this is our vacation home.  We spend most of our time in the city.  Melanie took over, coordinated with the contractor, took us on shopping trips in the city to pick fixtures, designed floor plans for the kitchen, bathroom and living room and help design a beautiful kitchen and shop with us at the cabinet maker.  We couldn't have gotten the renovation done without her help.  Very happy with the renovation, which could have turned out a disaster, but she saved the day.

> Melanie is a very gifted designer who can see a space and instantly know what would work well.  for example we were not happy with our screened in porch and within minutes of seeing the space she could determine that the current scale of items were inappropriate, did not optimize the view outside and had too many competing wood/brown items (ceiling, fans, floor, wicker, table...).   It was an eye opening moment for me because what she could see right away was not obvious to me for years. She created a beautiful calming space that we love so much.  It went from a room we never used to my favorite place!  She helped with all our outdoor and pool furniture as well - all perfect!
