Grain Wood Shop is a full-service custom woodworking shop located in Boston.  Our focus is on designing, building and installing custom specialty wood products, cabinetry and built-in units for both residential & commercial clients.  We have the latest design technology and a fully equipped machine shop to fabricate any type of wood product.

Our goal is to enhance a space by building custom pieces and making the space feel your own.  We use all kinds of materials in our projects from hardwoods, steel and glass to reclaimed wood and live edge timbers.  This is what makes Grain and our projects unique.

Our craftsmen are experienced professionals having worked on a wide range of projects.  Grain is a proud member of the Cabinet Makes Association and the Architectural Woodworking Institute.

> Hired Brandon from Grain to complete renovation of small galley kitchen after receiving a free quote.  Initially seemed like he would do a good job, however everything went wrong possible on the job.  Grain had painted the walls and cabinets different colors so they did not match (was not fixed).  He had mis-measured pull out drawers several times. Did not finish the wood on new pull out drawers installed and never fixed.  Brandon always cut corners and used inferior material to build a product that was finished over 2 months late.   Was always late responding to  phone calls and appointments, but had no problem being on time to collect his final payment.   Promised lifetime warranty, did show up a week later when the cabinet fell out to secure, but in December has not responded and the kitchen is falling apart.

Looking back, I can't imagine our home without the updated cabinets. Through both the design and color (which I would have never considered without Brandon) the cabinets  tie together the different open spaces in our small Beacon Hill home, while still looking historically-accurate. > Brandon can do anything!! We came to him first to make custom teak fronts for IKEA kitchen cabinets, which came out gorgeous. In addition, he helped our contractor salvage our old-growth pine floor joists and turned them into a beautiful feature wall in the master bathroom. He is great at communicating and has a knack for "getting" your vision, however fully or partially formed it might be. I would hire him for anything.

> Grain did a fantastic job building our dining room table. I was looking for someone to design and build a specific type of table.  I couldn't find the one I wanted (and I looked everywhere!).  The table needed to be rustic and also a bit modern.  I told him I also wanted this table to withstand kids, so he was great about giving me finishing options that were non-toxic.

Custom made accent pieces were built and installed throughout the unit. This included a walnut custom cabinet enclosure for the stove hood in the kitchen, custom walnut shelving as part of the kitchen island and a fireplace surround with matching butternut panels with floating shelves installed on the side.

He picked 100 year reclaimed old oak to use for the project. The oak has a tight grain and came from an old warehouse in Connecticut. Grain filled the cracks and voids with epoxy and finished the tops with durable satin CV finish.
