> We contracted Sofia to do all the Interior Design work for a new apartment. We cannot express in a review how lucky we were. She navigated construction delays, a challenging client, post pandemic supply chain issues with patience and grace. The final product exceeds our wildest dreams. She took the time to know us and our tastes and filled the home to match us. Part of the Zimmerman magic is the combination of their three businesses. She is a fabulous designer with great resources and taste, Ottra creates some of the most beautiful furniture and when there is a tricky puzzle to solve Adam and the architecture team can figure out the solution. They make what can be a painful process easy and even at times fun.
>
> Do yourself a favor and hire Sofia and the great team at Zimmerman!

**★★★★★ — amandoua, May 2018**

> We just completed a successful combination of two condo units into one beautiful home - hugely successful thanks to Adam and Sofia. We could not have had a better experience working with them throughout the entire process. They had the vision to transform our patchy ideas into a design that perfectly fit our needs and worked tirelessly to deliver an elegant, functional space. They are meticulous, knowledgeable and talented and manage all aspects of the project comprehensively and professionally. On top of everything, they allowed for great flexibility in our meetings and communications, allowing us to easily work around busy schedules. Adam and Sofia put true passion and care into the work they do and take pride in the quality delivered. Most importantly, they always made us feel as if we were their only client. Entrusting someone to manage the transformation of your home is consequential, and we are so fortunate to have found Adam and Sofia to handle ours.

**Comment from Zimmerman Workshop Architecture + Design:**

> Thanks so much! It was our pleasure working with you. Enjoy your 'new' home!

**★★★★★ — Caroline Burton, June 2017**

> Team was fantastic from start to finish. The primary project that we completed was for a backyard renovation in our Brooklyn condo. We were constrained by a small-ish footprint, lack of privacy (condo building looked down on the space) and desire for low maintenance. In short they nailed it. They produced a great design with style, low maintenance plants and a funky tent covering. The entire project was flawlessly executed from the design, material sourcing, contractor interviews, timeline management etc. When it came time to sell our home this space was the highlight.
>
> We are currently working with them again on some interior design for a new home! Highly recommend for their work as well as their friendly, low-pressure communication style.

**★★★★★ — GLOBAL HOME, Aug. 2016**

> It's always great to meet new customers. But it's even better when they are as wonderful as Adam and Sofia. Kind and courteous individuals with a great business acumen. And their portfolio speaks for itself.

**★★★★★ — mmerwin10, July 2016**

> On the recommendation of a close friend I hired Adam Zimmerman, a Brooklyn-based architect, who with his wife, Sofia, managed the renovation of my Manhattan apartment over a period of some four months in 2014. Their "management" included vetting contractors, selecting fixtures, furniture, color schemes, and introducing me to stores from Carl Hansen to Ikea to YLighting to Drimmers. Adam is both exceptionally creative and exceptionally detailed. He turned a rather shopworn one bedroom apartment into a thing of awe. He visited the site often, which is always important in keeping the contractor on goal and was always available to go on shopping excursions with me. I was so impressed with the results that I have hired him as the architect for the renovation of my home in New Jersey. Miles M. Merwin

> Zimmerman Workshop provided architectural drawings and renderings for the renovation of my apartment, helped me interview potential contractors, oversaw the job site and communicated with the contractor, until the project was complete to my satisfaction.
>
> They were timely, professional, and provided multiple design options for my consideration. This was my first apartment renovation and I could not have done it without them.

**★★★★★ — Kelli Katch, July 2016**

> We purchased a mid-century modern home built in 1959 and renovated in the late 90's early 2000's. The house had great bones, but needed to be brought up to today's design esthetic with a better use of the space. Zimmerman Workshop created a design for the common living space, which included our entryway, kitchen, living room and dining room, that is beautiful. The centerpiece of the design is an 11 foot long handcrafted butcher block island with a waterfall at one end and a parabolic leg at the other. Zimmerman Workshop also created a redesign of our guest bath, which brought the design of that space back in line with the rest of the home. The architect was able to work within our budget and find economical solutions to some design challenges that we faced. They were also instrumental on helping with the fabrication of the butcher block island; working directly with the craftsmen to aide in its creation.
>
> We would definitely love to work with Zimmerman Workshop again in the future and would highly recommend them.

**★★★★★ — lizfraser\_2000, July 2016**

> Zimmerman Workshop designed and then oversaw a large renovation project in my Brooklyn apartment. The focus was the kitchen. Not only was the end result beautiful and highly functional, but their professionalism created a highly efficient and enjoyable construction period.
> I have hired Zimmerman Workshop for an even larger scope project in my new home.

**★★★★★ — sortandco, June 2016**

> We are so pleased to have worked with Zimmerman Workshop. The end result is a 2500 sq. ft home that works beautifully. They really understand how overwhelming a large reno or build project can be so they guide you through the process in the most postive way. The firm is innovative, creative and smart. From start to finish, all our architectural, interior and design needs were taken care of seamlessly by Adam and his talented team. I think what I found most refreshing was how they helped us understand what needed to be done- and worked with us to undertand our real needs. Everyone at Zimmerman is calm, friendly and really easy to work with and most importantly the owners love their home.

> We turned our house into a single family home and gutted the top floor and the kitchen, The top floor was a rental apartment and we turned it into a floor for our two teenage children. We wanted a more contemporary and fun design. The parlor floor was updated and made more comfortable and family friendly. We wanted a lot more light in the kitchen, a bistro feel, and that our garden be a natural extension of the kitchen. Adam and Sofia did a brilliant job of architectural design while maintaining a wonderful feel throughout the house.
> Our experience with Adam and Sofia couldn't have been better. Whether it was their responsiveness and always being available no matter how small the question, working through problems and helping us decide on the best solution and creating a positive working team. We highly recommend them!

- [Madison Square Park Condo](https://www.houzz.com/hznb/projects/madison-square-park-condo-pj-vj~5673493)
  - Location: New York, NY
  - Photos: 12
  - Description: Our clients had a few simple requests when they approached us to furnish their home: make it clean, uncluttered, comfortable, and child-friendly. And one more thing: all had to agree on all the pieces we proposed! We love how this project came together because it's a true reflection of the people that live there. It's sophisticated with a bit of playfulness, and elegant yet comfortable.

  - Location: New York, NY

  - Description: Featured as a Space of the Week in New York Magazine (link below). This triplex on Manhattan's Upper West Side is located in a four-family Landmarked townhouse. Walking through the home, you would notice each floor has a unique aesthetic, but there's distinct thread (a slight twist on traditional) that unites them all. The top floor (parlor level) is more traditional, middle (garden) is intersection between soft modern and traditional, and the basement is soft modern. Other notable facts about t…

  - Location: New York, NY

  - Description: Featured as a House of the Day on WSJ.com (link below). This project involved primarily cosmetic upgrades and new furnishings. Among the objectives: to brighten the space (windows are limited to the north end in the living area, and the south end where the bedrooms are located), infuse a more contemporary look through new furnishings and finishes, and remodel all bathrooms. - Location: Brooklyn, NY
  - Photos: 15
  - Description: This home--a charming, historic, sun-filled townhouse in Brooklyn Heights--was brimming with potential. The natural light on three sides makes this property's small footprint feel much more spacious. We capitalized on that by further opening up the space. Most notably, we moved the powder room and storage closet (see the large volume in our 'before' images) to the garden level. This enabled us to create a spacious kitchen (previously, the kitchen was just a small galley in the back) and tie it i…
- [Harlem Townhouse](https://www.houzz.com/hznb/projects/harlem-townhouse-pj-vj~1914009)
  - Location: New York, NY

  - Description: The design for this townhouse preserves historic elements and character while brightening the home with contemporary features and increased natural light. Highlights of the project include a 4th story extension with a roof deck with views of Manhattan’s skyline. The studio apartment on the garden level has a thoughtful design to maximize value. The project images here are renderings; when the project is complete photographs will be added.

  - Location: New York, NY
  - Photos: 10
  - Description: Among the changes on the renovated parlor and garden levels is a staircase reoriented along the front window wall, which maximizes daylight. Although the floorplan is compact, we were able to design it to feel spacious, and we even managed to squeeze in a tasting room that leads to a 200-sq.-ft. terrace.

  - Location: Brooklyn, NY

  - Description: This renovation on three of the four stories included a bright eat-in kitchen with custom cabinetry, preserving historical elements on the parlor level while modernizing it with an additional back window, and converting what was once a top-floor rental unit into a suite for our clients' daughters. - Location: Brooklyn, NY
  - Photos: 14
  - Description: This is an example of a tiny kitchen next to one of those awkward "dead zones" where space was not being maximized. By taking down an enclosing wall, and by combining it with that portion of underused space (see our before shots and the floor plan), we transformed a postage stamp of a kitchen into a fresh, airy, and integral part of the living and dining areas.

## Community Q&A

**Q: I love the dresser/changing table, can you tell me more about it?** *(in Photo Questions)*

A: Of course! It's from a company in Montreal called Natart (Rustic Modern collection). Beautiful, sturdy, eco-friendly. It's a bit tricky to find it in stores, but I know they have distributors...we worked with Stephanie from Magic Beans in Fairfield, CT. Good luck!

**Q: Dining Room Chairs** *(in Photo Questions)*

Can you tell me where you purchased the dining room chairs?

A: Certainly. These are the Drop Chair which we sourced through Fritz Hansen.

**Q: Flooring** *(in Photo Questions)*

Where is the floor tile from?

A: I'm pretty certain these were sourced from Walker Zanger.

**Q: Where are the dressers from?** *(in Photo Questions)*

A: That dresser is very similar to one from Ikea. They even have one in blue, although it's more of a stain that shows the grain. http://www.ikea.com/us/en/catalog/products/40239274/\#/90239276
