> Choosing Colonial Design & Build was clear from the beginning.  Colonial built my sister's house several years prior to us building ours.  Our method of construction was somewhat unconventional.  We owned the land and hired an architect to design and engineer the house we desired.  Once the final design and construction drawing packages were completed, we invited several (six) local reputable new home builders to bid on our project.  Of the ones that submitted a proposal and met our criteria, Colonial was chosen due to the proven track record and favorable building contract structure.  Kevin from Colonial communicated well during the project and was knowledgable about the process.  In many cases he would provide alternatives to the design that would work in everyones favor.  He also kept in constant contact with his subcontractors to ensure items were being properly addressed.  As with most new homes, Colonial provided a warranty, with only minor items being called for repair.

> Kevin and his staff are wonderful.  We get so many compliments on our new home. We frequently entertain and our guests always say so many nice things about the open layout and giant wall of glass in our two-story large open room. I never thought it was possible to get 8,000 sq ft of living space onto a small lot in Bethesda, but the design team made it happen for us. Love my custom kitchen with 2 islands and 2 dishwashers. It’s a great home for large gatherings and we appreciate everything Colonial did for us.

> Outstanding quality!  We hired Colonial to design and build our home in Bethesda.  They were the perfect choice to bring our ideas to life.  Kevin and his staff pay very careful attention to every detail and made the entire process stress free for us.  Colonial has its own full-time carpentry and paint crew…so when it came to the fine finishes, built in bookshelves, decorative moldings, custom closets etc…. It was very easy to tell them our ideas and the carpenters over delivered and created our unique new home features we were hoping for! > Colonial Design and Build is on balance the best builder in Maryland. We have built five houses in four states over thirty five years and this is by far our best experience. Colonial Design and Build is owned and controlled by Kevin Slezak who has built over one hundred individual custom homes.

> Colonial Design and Build operates as a fee based operation. That is, you pay a flat fee plus the costs of building the house. You are able to control costs and quality using subcontractors Kevin recommends and uses on a regular basis. Additionally, you explicitly see all invoices and costs as you select materials that are recommended or that you choose to select and modify yourself. You have greater control during the construction process but also more responsibility. With Kevin’s experience he can guide not only someone who is building their first house but also someone like us looking to have more flexibility to select higher quality custom materials and to be explicitly able to see those precise costs.

> "Open-book" contractor, proving high-quality results and creative solutions to the challenges of new home construction. We retained Kevin and his team to demolish a waterfront cottage and rebuild on the same footprint as required by county building restrictions. Kevin worked with us through the permitting process to ensure building and environmental requirements were met. We obtained our plan from the Internet before finding Kevin and were not using an architect for the project. From our first meeting, Kevin was sensitive to our budget needs and provided insightful design suggestions to enhance our project. Kevin has been a pleasure to work with. The open-book contract has made it easy to evaluate the many decision trade offs of the new construction process, and keep us on budget.
