> Reflecting back on 2025 and the build of our new home, we are so glad we chose to work with Cameron Contracting Ltd.
>
> From the very beginning, they listened carefully to our needs and took the time to understand how we wanted to live in the space. The design they helped create feels unique and truly “us,” which was so important for our dream retirement home.
>
> Throughout the project, communication was great! If any issues came up, they were quick to respond and came up with thoughtful, creative solutions. We always felt heard and supported, and never felt like we were just another job on the list.
>
> Every trade that worked on our home did excellent work, and it was clear that there’s a strong sense of pride and professionalism across the whole team. The quality of the craftsmanship really shows, and we continue to appreciate the little details every day we live here.
>
> We couldn’t be happier with how everything turned out, and we would absolutely use Cameron Contracting Ltd again without hesitation. We would happily recommend them to friends, family, or anyone looking for a contractor they can trust!

**★ — Ben John, Oct. 2024**

> We hired Cameron Contracting to do a full house reno. After a few months of planning, design, and demolition, they provided us a detailed budget totaling $296k. By the time they stopped working less than 6 months later, their invoices had skyrocketed to $557k, and we spent an extra $27k on unfinished work. They told us that the overages were due mostly to “scope changes”, but their definition of a scope change includes things like:
> \- $31k extra (150% over) for cabinetry and counters because we supposedly selected “high end” finishes and included a wet bar "that a typical house doesn’t have", even though they were given all those specs before they provided us the budget
> \- $37k extra (155% over) in flooring even though we had selected 85% of all flooring before they provided us with the budget (their initial estimate didn’t even cover the installation cost of the flooring)
> \- Tens of thousands more in other items that they refused to explain to us because “the money was already spent so we owed it to them no matter what”
>
> When we asked them why the costs were so high when they’d been provided comprehensive specifications upfront, they told us they didn’t use our specifications to come up with the budget and relied on “their experience” instead.
>
> They also misled or withheld info from us regularly about many other aspects of the project, including:
> \- Telling us the total duration would be 4 months when that timeframe was never going to be possible
> \- Failing to inform us (verbally or in writing) that the budget didn’t include their 15% markup on materials and subtrades (despite saying Total Cost) and not correcting us when we emailed them stating our understanding
> \- Invoicing us $17k extra (25% more) in labour by billing us rates higher than our contract specified and invoicing us for project management when the contract said it was provided for free, then hiding it from us
> -Not telling us that the work site had been shut down by a building inspector for weeks because they didn’t obtain building permits (we only found out when got a $500 fine)
>
> We repeatedly sent them messages seeking assurances that the budget was on track and they regularly ignored or dismissed them, taking 3 months to do a promised “full file review” which was given to us 1 month before we moved in. That “full file review” still underestimated the final cost to complete the work by more than $85k.
>
> Cameron Contracting compromised our financial future by consistently misleading us through the entirety of the renovation. We felt totally duped after trusting a “family run business” that acted as though this level of budget overage was no big deal. We were lucky not to have to sell our home to cover their massive overages. I’m sure there are contractors in the Comox Valley with honesty, integrity, and competence, but our experience with Cameron Contracting shows that they aren’t one of them.

**Comment from Cameron Contracting Ltd:**

> This highlights the importance of involving a professional building inspector before finalizing the purchase of a home. An inspection can uncover significant issues, providing clarity and addressing potential concerns early on.
>
> In this particular case, extensive damage to the original structure required major repairs and replacements, including decks, plumbing, electrical systems, mechanical components, and siding.
>
> We strive to incorporate our clients' design preferences within the budget allocations provided. However, if a client approves a budget increase for certain items, we proceed with those selections.
>
> We make every effort to adhere to the project schedule and keep clients informed of any delays or changes that may impact the move-in date. While we provide a project timeline and maintain open communication throughout, renovations can be unpredictable, with hidden challenges often only revealed once work begins.
>
> We refrain from sharing specific details about this project to respect our commitment to customer privacy. However, we want to emphasize that we do not agree with these customer’s claims.
>
> We continue to be a dedicated, family-run business committed to building the highest quality homes for our customers.

> I needed a contractor to build our house on a new lot on the golf course at Crown Isle, Courtenay, BC. I met with many local contractors and chose Cameron Contracting because, after my initial meeting, I knew I would be working with a successful family-run business. We are thrilled with their high-level quality and attention to detail. The home they built with expert help from Cory, Kristy and Don furnished us with a house far superior to our original plans. We are forever grateful and recommend Cameron Contracting Ltd as the number one company to choose for building your home.
