> My husband and I were recommended to Ben Clair by another builder when we were exploring building our new home. When we mentioned to the builder that we were interested in passive house design principles, that builder knew that Ben had a particular interest and expertise in this area. We came to Ben with a pencil sketch of an idea he we able to turn our “dream house” into a reality. He took the time and effort to listen and be responsive to all of our requests, desires, and questions. We wanted some very specific features---exterior insulation, a tight building envelope and other design features for a high-performance home. Ben was highly engaged and provided an expertise in this area to help us achieve our goals. The construction drawings that Ben developed were incredibly detailed and thorough—probably more so than most general contractors are used to having. However, we appreciated being able to refer to these details throughout the build. In hindsight, we might have tried to find a general contractor with a bit more experience in high performance homes to build the home that Ben designed, but ultimately—we ended up with a home that we love and appreciate all that Ben did to help us get there.
