Creating beautiful spaces for amazing people!

We are all looking for ways to make our homes more beautiful, comfortable and functional. We start thinking about painting a room or two, adding a few more pieces of art, some plants, or maybe it’s time for THAT kitchen or bath remodel. We want something that looks fresh and clean, but not contrived or over-the-top. We start watching The Property Brothers and Love It or List It. We look at shelter magazines like Sunset, Oregon Home or House Beautiful. If we’re internet savvy we start reading the home design blogs, we might even start a Pinterest mood board. We’re excited and exhilarated, but it’s confusing and we don’t know where to start.

Now more than ever, we need to create beauty, comfort and function in our homes. Please peruse our more than 45 projects, then please send an email inquiry to see how we might collaborate and create your dream kitchen or bath.

At CK Hoffman Design, we help you to take that excitement and enthusiasm and help you to create a home that really reflects - YOU - your tastes, your style, and your budget.

The first step is a free 20 minute Zoom or FaceTime Consultation.

Wishing you all the Best,

### Reviews

**★★★★★ — Mark Bayles, April 2025**

> We recently completed a total remodel of our kitchen/dining area. Kat at CK Hoffman did an excellent job as both designer and contractor. As a designer, she helped guide us to an amazing result that checked off all of the pain points we had with the prior kitchen. As a contractor, she took no short-cuts and always responded to any issue within 24 hours. She met up with the sub-contractors each morning to insure they were on plan. Quality was a top priority and any concern we had with them was addressed immediately.

**★★★★★ — Bill and Carol Thomason, Jan. 2024**

> A positive experience from the day Caryl and Kat first came to our home, to the day their photographer recorded our finished master bath. Caryl and Kat provided ideas, guidance, assurance and a sense of trust. We are novices. We needed and were so appreciative of their design skills, ideas and their clear timeline for each step of our project. They answered questions and helped us make decisions. Their subcontractors were timely, worked efficiently and were pleasant to have in our home. Through the entire process we felt as though guided by trusted friends. We wish for them all the best and highly recommend CK Hoffman Design.

**★★★★★ — ktourijigian, Nov. 2022**

> What a fun project! Our experience with CK Hoffman Design, Caryl & Kat, was like working with friends; only these friends knew what they were doing. This was the fourth remodel since having our home built 45 years ago. It was a full kitchen and family room remodel. It was by far the best and our favorite one. We know what we like when we see a completed room setting but we can’t put it together. Kat was patiently there to help us with all design decisions until we found just the right combinations. Caryl was very knowledgeable of kitchen appliances and suggested just the right ones for our kitchen. They were available, positive, kind and just fun people to be around. We miss seeing them every day. Because they put so much thought, time, organization, and advanced ordering of products, prior to demo day, the project went as scheduled. They provided us with a two-month calendar of a daily work schedule so we always knew who was coming and what was being done. That was a tremendous help.
> We had no idea who to hire for all the necessary jobs; we didn’t need to…CK Hoffman Design has years of experience working with subcontractors. They have established a trusted, talented, and reliable team they know will work hard, adding to the success of whatever project they are working on.
> We highly recommend CK Hoffman Design. You won’t be disappointed.

> Caryl and Kat are wonderfully creative designers and an absolute joy to work with. They will spend the time to help you understand your style and they will tailor their design suggestions to meet your needs. They have excellent resources for sourcing materials and equipment. They understand the constraints of a homeowners budget and will work with you to make the decisions that will deliver the most impact.

**★★★★★ — Carol Stearns, Jan. 2022**

> During a time when other remodel projects experienced delays and disappointments due to "supply chain" issues, our kitchen remodel hummed along smoothly, on schedule and on budget. I attribute this success to CK Hoffman's thorough planning process and continual attention to detail throughout the project. When you engage CK Hoffman Design you get an entire team of courteous, competent and knowledgeable sub-contractors in addition to their fine design and project management team which is invaluable. I especially appreciated their positive, can-do attitude where any concerns are immediately addressed with excellent communication. It is a joy to work with this team!

**Comment from CK Hoffman Design:**

> Thanks Carol, we so appreciate your kind words and had an absolute blast working with you on your project. We look forward to working with you again!

**★★★★★ — lmwaara, Dec. 2021**

> As someone who has no knack for decorating, and I mean none, Caryl and Kat did a terrific job figuring out what I wanted and making it happen. They helped me transform several outdated and worn areas of my 31-year-old home into places of beauty, style, and functionality. After assessing what areas I most wanted to update and what I might like, they presented me with options that fit my budget. An update to my master bath, powder room, and a couple of smaller areas was sorely needed. I am so pleased with the results! Caryl and Kat were on top of the project each step of the way, and now it feels like my home is brand new. It’s amazing what a difference a few changes can make. It was wonderful working with these ladies! Thank you, Caryl and Kat!!

**Comment from CK Hoffman Design:**

> Thanks for these wonderful words. We so appreciate your support and so glad that your lovin' your new look! C + K

**★★★★★ — HU-974600157, Dec. 2021**

> Caryl and Kat of CK Hoffman Design are very knowledgeable and professional. They have great relationships with all their subcontractors and we’re very good about keeping us informed and the project on schedule. They helped us with some strategic and cost-effective updates to our kitchen and main living areas to make our house feel refreshed. We are going to be enjoying the results of their hard work for years to come and we can’t wait to work with them on other areas of the house.

**Comment from CK Hoffman Design:**

> Oh my goodness, we can't wait to work with you again either! It was such a blast putting this project together for you and your family - enjoy!

**★★★★★ — duckbulldog, Jan. 2021**

> Caryl and Kat were wonderful to work with - as someone who has her own ideas about what she wanted, they were accommodating and helped me narrow down my choices. Her subcontractors were great and Caryl has very high standards for expectations for them. They were very good at monitoring the project and kept me informed about any delays or changes in schedule. Caryl also suggested good changes for my project I had not considered which made the end product much nicer. It was very helpful to work with a team of professionals who had good ideas and were so communicative.

**Comment from CK Hoffman Design:**

> Alison, thank you so much! You and Madeline were wonderful to work with as well. Enjoy your new kitchen!

**★★★★★ — Cindy Stone, Nov. 2020**

> Caryl is a great person. She does beautiful work. I would highly recommend her for any projects! We have been very happy with Caryle.

**★★★★★ — HU-988492395, Nov. 2020**

> Working with Caryl Hoffman on a recently completed kitchen remodel I found her highly professional with an exceptional attention to detail. She and Diana Zapata on her team communicated/explained/handled all issues in the project effectively and used a top notch group of sub contractors to make the remodel experience as painless as possible. A great team, highly recommended.

 - Description: Built in 1927 in the beautiful Alameda District in Portland, this grand home was in desperate need of a few updates including and Kitchen Remodel. In order to accomplish this, we needed to remove an old side porch with sunroom, demo a window and decommission a door, add a NEW door, add a concrete path, add new stairs (this time in Trex) and update the breakfast nook. - Description: Remodeling this 20+ year old kitchen in a Mid Century Style home in SW Portland was tremendously fun and absolutely challenging! The client, a gourmet cook, was in absolute need of a re-do - new flooring, paint, cabinets, counters, appliances and the rest. She also had very specific storage needs for all of her pans, dishware, and other essential cooking supplies. This was all fine and to be expected with any gourmet kitchen remodel. Changing out the stark white with some wonderful colors, then crisp which ceilings and trim. Mom picked an elegant peach for the sunroom and girl's bedroom a sassy pink. Other rooms more subdued with light grays and blues. A little something for everyone!

## Community Q&A

**Q: what color is the wavelike tile in this photo?** *(in Photo Questions)*

what color is the wavelike tile in this photo?

A: Hi Lori - this tile was sourced in Portland at Pental, which is now Architectural Surfaces. It is a glass tile in a creamy white color but we do not have the exact brand in our records.

**Q: Curb appeal help** *(in Landscape Design)*

Hello. I am trying to bring curl appeal to this home. Everything is just cosmetic for now. The roof will be painted black. The house will be painted white. Any ideas on how to bring curb appeal? With no windows in the left, I am trying to make it not look so off. Should I add hedges on the left side? Or a porch swing? Any suggestions to bring curb appeal?

A: Yes the paint will help a lot! You should find a good landscape designer - the Houzz Find a Pro should have some good options for you. And that's a gorgeous huge covered front patio. I recommend LOTS of potted plants and seating areas to either side. Porch Swing is a good idea, so is a rocker. Crate and Barrel has some wonderful outdoor furniture - you should ck them out - Good Luck!

**Q: HELP ME !! NEED ADVICE ON DOOR COLORS** *(in Paint)*

House has been repainted white , i was going to leave the garage doors but don't like how they look.
Looking for advice on coloring for the front door and garage doors

A: Pick a fantastic front door color like Eggplant or Navy, Black or Charcoal Gray are always classic. I know what you mean about the garage doors, but too much contrast will take away from your front entry. Take the color you finally pick for your front door, then "tint" a white every so slightly to make a lighter shade for your garage doors - Happy Painting

**Q: Need help in making backsplash decision with the new countertops** *(in Design Dilemma)*

Hi Community,
We need help in making a last minute decision on whether to go with our chosen backsplash or not. We had to change the selection of our countertops due to availability. We are going with Calacatta Sierra as shown in the picture but now are not sure of our current backsplash selection. Does it look too busy and shall we try to go for a safer option or we can still pull it off with these countertops? P.s we have blue cabinets, flooring would be white looking tile and we love the backsplash! :)
Thanks for the suggestions as always.

A: Sorry that you had to reselect mid project. I love the tile you picked, but now with these new countertops, I think they will clash. Find a classic white tile in stone, ceramic or glass. Z Collection and Pental will have some nice options. Then - take a few of those original tiles you LOVE an make them into trivets. They will decorate your kitchen nicely. You can also match some dishware to those colors and create a nice curated look.

**Q: Color of furniture chosen for this room** *(in Photo Questions)*

Hi there. I have exactly this color combination in my remodelled basement family room. I have no idea what color sofa and curtains I should purchase and what secondary color to use for arm chairs or pillows/curtains. Would love some advice! Thank you very much. I am considering a sectional sofa or a couch/loveseat combo.

A: Hi there - the beauty of this "neutral grays" back drop is that just about any color scheme goes with it! I'm really lovin' the All shades of gray and soft pinks right now, also a big fan of Orange and Turquoise. But that's just me - I actually do have an e-design service if you were interested, we could personalize it to "your" tastes - Here's the link to my website - https://www.ckhoffmandesign.com/services - Happy Decorating! **Q: Master Bathroom All Glass. Yes or No** *(in Polls)*

Would you live in a house where the master bathroom is behind tinted glass? (toilet is concealed behind a door)

Your partner will see you shower, take a bath and floss your teeth.

A: no way.
