**★★★★★ — Paul Clark, Jan. 2016**

> We work with Kawartha Lakes all the time and they are one of the best companies to work for from a subcontractor point of view. It's great to know the job site will be clean and organized and ready to go on schedule. It reflects the type of company they are. They have a great design team and always pay close attention to detail.

**★★★★★ — Pam Fischer, Aug. 2015**

> From start to finish the Kawartha Lakes Construction team were professional, helpful in offering advice and new ideas for our garage project. The team onsite were courteous, friendly, efficient and kept a clean and safe job site. If we ever get the opportunity to build our own home they will be the ones we call. If you want your project looked after so that everything is taken care of from drawings, design, permits to a beautifully finished product, Kawartha Lakes Construction won't disappoint you.

**★★★★★ — phoebs1313, July 2015**

> Excellent, team oriented professionals - we have worked for this company for many years and found them to be truly exceptional in every way. Their attention to detail and focus on quality are second to none. Their constant upgrading and changing to keep up with technology make them a leader in the industry. I would definitely recommend them if you're interested in quality building.

**★★★★★ — paulnmason, Jan. 2015**

> Kawartha Lakes Construction built an elevated deck on my property. From my first contact -- when two team members visited me, listened carefully and took photographs -- to the last -- when my project was completed a little ahead of schedule -- I was impressed with their professionalism, courtesy and technical skills. They drew up the blueprints, secured the necessary approvals, built the deck and cleaned up the site in a way that met my hopes as well as my expectations. KLC was not by any means my cheapest option, but I have no regrets whatsoever about having hired them, and I would hire them again without hesitation.

**★★★★★ — User, Sept. 2013**

> I have never seen a company with as much technical expertise and advanced processes in place for the execution of a residential construction project. KLC is very much the full package and the only way to go in their next of the woods. You can do no better with Scott and his amazing team.

  - Description: This cottage project required the complete renovation of an existing cottage originally built in the 1970’s. The project site is located on a granite bluff forty-five feet above the lake on a water access only site. To accommodate our client’s space configuration and finish desires, it was decided to remove all of the existing interior walls and finishes. The intent was to create an open space plan and to incorporate elements of a Scandinavian design aesthetic. The existing floor structure and e…

  - Location: Harcourt, ON

  - Description: Our client’s original cottage was initially designed in 2007 with the intention of building an inexpensive space to live in until they retired, when they would then finish the project. The first phase involved building the basement from ICF, putting subfloor on and installing roof truss on top (and planning on reusing a portion of that roof in the final phase). The interior of this space was finished to just the minimum required for them to be able to use it for the next few years. The next step…

  - Description: The challenge with this project was a small (too small!) 10 x 10, U-shaped kitchen designed for one cook. Our client is an energetic professional who loves to entertain, so a more open and bright space was a huge priority. A further complication was the small, adjacent 12 x 10 mudroom which provided for the walk-in pantry, wine fridge and dry-goods. The small mudroom also included the laundry facilities. An additional concern was the fact that there was no formal eating/breakfast area. The open…

  - Description: A new cottage for a young family is always an exciting project to take on! Knowing that you are helping create a space where a family will be growing up, spending summers and creating memories is a special privilege for our team and this cottage was no exception. A beautiful collaboration with Discovery Dream Homes, this island getaway was designed to be a fully functional, fully insulated cottage retreat for the family year round but also able to be quickly & easily shutdown for a season. Loads…
- [Secluded on Stoney](https://www.houzz.com/hznb/projects/secluded-on-stoney-pj-vj~1383668)
  - Location: Not specified
  - Photos: 28
  - Description: Hidden amongst the mature pines and oaks, on a rather difficult piece of island shoreline, this well designed cottage was oriented to replace the footprint of the family's previous 2-season building. The existing decks were to be maintained, setting precedent for the orientation and views, which were enhanced with the use of floor to ceiling glass in the great room and copious window views looking out over the Church on the Rock on Stoney Lake. Natural wood and stone finishes give a very organic…
- [Dream Cottage on Catchacoma](https://www.houzz.com/hznb/projects/dream-cottage-on-catchacoma-pj-vj~1122806)
  - Location: Not specified
  - Photos: 29
  - Description: This extremely challenging project purposely avoided conventional foundations through the use of a steel sub-frame to allow for direct attachment to the side of a cliff. All materials were brought across a frozen over lake and up the side of a cliff with the aid of a marine railway. Despite its remote location this cottage was fully insulated and treated as a 4-season home. Due to the sheer cliff on site, the floor plan was stepped up into a split-level format allowing access to the top of the c…

  - Description: Kawartha Lakes Construction has worked with the Association of Stony Lake Cottagers (ASLC) for many years to maintain a historic 100+ year old general store on Juniper Island, Stony Lake. This was a task that became increasing difficulty each year as the building was deteriorating faster than it could be repaired. After a recent engineers report, the building was finally deemed structurally unsound and the ASLC determined that it would ultimately have to be taken down and rebuilt. It was imperat…

  - Description: This kitchen, although brand new space, had to have a period dated feel and appeal to match its century old cottage on Stoney Lake. Wonderful collaboration between designers Lisa Besseling & Debra Ramsay and our own design team allowed the creation of a space that eliminated 3 small rooms which were opened up into 1 larger space, affording the grand island and open format room. Soap stone counters, quarter sawn oak cabinetry and replica entry door along with light fixturing and original cook top…
- [Rustic Cottage Remodel on Big Cedar](https://www.houzz.com/hznb/projects/rustic-cottage-remodel-on-big-cedar-pj-vj~1487691)
  - Location: Not specified
  - Photos: 19
  - Description: This cottage was nothing but a liability, built on 18 feet of peat in a swamp and with a basement so low to the water table of Big Cedar lake that it flooded every Spring . An engineering challenge to say the least, KLC lifted the cottage up and moved it out of the way in order to pile drive a series of steel pillons and engineered beam system that accommodated a new foundation / engineered floor system, 4 feet elevated from the original level. The cottage was then relocated on the new foundatio…
- [Retaining Original Charm-Bunkie Rebuild on Stoney Lake](https://www.houzz.com/hznb/projects/retaining-original-charm-bunkie-rebuild-on-stoney-lake-pj-vj~1442196)
  - Location: Not specified
  - Photos: 11
  - Description: Winner of "Best Outbuilding" at the Peterborough & the Kawarthas Home Builder's Association 2015 Housing Design Awards, this remote island project involved a complete recreation of a historical bunkie on Stoney Lake. Extreme care was taken to retain the building's original "essence" down to the finest of details. Our task was to meet the current building code while keeping the charm and character of the original bunkie's craftsmanship from years past. With our client thrilled with the end result…

  - Location: Not specified

  - Description: This A-frame cottage had some unutilized space under a sloping ceiling in a closet adjacent to a small ensuite. We collaborated with the brilliant team at Taylor Hannah Architect Inc on this project and the result was an awesome transformation! By removing the partition wall, we were able to expand the footprint to create a funky sloped ceiling shower and add more space to the room. Intrigue was created through the use of mouldings applied to the walls, taking this rather mundane space to a more…
- [Traditional New Home in the Country for Family to Grow](https://www.houzz.com/hznb/projects/traditional-new-home-in-the-country-for-family-to-grow-pj-vj~1306765)
  - Location: Not specified

  - Description: This project was based on an extremely challenging job site. Due to the water table, the entire project was designed on an engineered foundation system allowing full walkout design and views of the family farm. Because of the massive amount of earth moving required, a pond was dug on the property to provide to a cost-effective fill and at the same time create a recreational area for the family to enjoy fishing and skating.
- [Stoney Lake Modern Kitchen Renovation](https://www.houzz.com/hznb/projects/stoney-lake-modern-kitchen-renovation-pj-vj~888271)
  - Location: Not specified
  - Photos: 7
  - Description: This project began with a very detached, dysfunctional and poorly laid-out kitchen space which had no natural connection to rest of the cottage. We removed a large component of structural bearing wall to open up the room and create a sense of connectivity to the main portion of the cottage. We took advantage of the high vaulted ceilings by reducing them slightly to allow for increased insulation and implemented an improved lighting plan with the installation of pot lights.
- [Rustic Buckhorn Bunkie Adds More Space at the Cottage](https://www.houzz.com/hznb/projects/rustic-buckhorn-bunkie-adds-more-space-at-the-cottage-pj-vj~1777169)
  - Location: Not specified

  - Description: This particular project was designed and constructed with long‐term life cycle expectations. Factory pre‐finished exterior materials matching the existing main cottage were incorporated wherever possible. It was important to the client that the new structure would have a reasonable view of the lake and that it be an insect free, three‐season environment. Our client also desired an open space with no intermediate supporting walls or columns and for the space to be similar to the vaulted pine ceil…
- [Island Cottage Renovation](https://www.houzz.com/hznb/projects/island-cottage-renovation-pj-vj~165919)
  - Location: Stoney Lake, ON
  - Photos: 7
  - Description: Sitting on a beautifully treed island on Stoney Lake, this cottage needed more space for a growing family, particularly a better functioning kitchen and more sleeping space. We incorporated the look and feel of a Bunkie but attached it to the rear of the cottage so it still has washroom access. The kitchen now offers more storage and better flow for entertaining.

## Community Q&A

**Q: Beautiful work!** *(in Photo Questions)*

Could you please tell me the roof supplier/colour and the shake stain colour? I love this colour combination!

A: Hi Sylvia! This was a cottage we did back in 2011. The shingles were https://www.iko.com/na/product\_colors/cambridge-ar-charcoal-grey/ and the shakes were through James Hardie https://www.jameshardie.ca/color-and-design/live-colorfully/iran-gray

**Q: Fireplace** *(in Photo Questions)*

What stone is used on this fireplace? The color is exactly what I'm looking for!!

A: Hi there! The Dutch quality cultured stone used on this project was supplied by our client.

**Q: Toilet** *(in Photo Questions)*

Where is the toilet located? Do you have another picture at a different angle?

A: Hi there! Apologies for our tardy response. This is an older project of ours from 2008. It was an attic renovation and unfortunately, I could not dig up any other photos. However, going off the plans, the toilet is located to the left of the entrance (so when you step into the bathroom, the pedestal sink would be on the right and the toilet would be almost directly across from it.)

**Q: what is the paint color** *(in Photo Questions)*

A: Hi there. This project is a few years old and we don't have the exact paint colour on file, but a cloud white or something along those lines would likely achieve the same effect,

**Q: Where to buy the rug** *(in Photo Questions)*

Where did you buy the rug? It looks fantastic. Thank you

A: Hi Christina! Thanks for your comment. Unfortunately, we have no information on where the rug came from, it was supplied by the client.

**Q: can you tell me the dimensions of the island?** *(in Photo Questions)*

How deep is the overhang for the barstool seating? And are there cabinets under the other side?

A: Hi there, sorry for our tardy response! Thanks for your interest. This particular island is 6 ft x 6 ft, with a 12 in overhang. Yes, there is storage on either sides of the island.
