Whether you are looking for a chandelier, copper kitchen sink or custom bronze range hood we make each product to order in our studio in Austin, Texas. Our expert staff is always ready to work with you, your designer, custom home builder, or contractor to achieve the perfectly made custom copper, brass, bronze, nickel-silver (German nickel), stainless steel or wrought iron product you desire.

In addition to tinsmithing, standard sheet metal, and wrought iron fabrication techniques, Texas Lightsmith regularly employs weaving of metal, repoussé, punching, and hammer forming to create a diverse design base for all projects. Since its inception, Texas Lightsmith has produced thousands of custom chandeliers, wall fixtures, vent hoods, hanging lanterns, fireplace screens, metal counter-tops, sinks and other exquisite and unique items. 

Keeping the work local and the quality high have been critical to our success. Texas Lightsmith does not support the outsourcing of U.S. work to underpaid foreign labor. Keeping the work in house allows us to keep close control on quality and the details essential to making custom work. All Texas Lightsmith products are handcrafted by local metal smiths, craftsmen, and artisans at the Texas Lightsmith studio in Austin, Texas. While the Texas Lightsmith standard line is ever-increasing, custom projects are welcome.

> If I could give zero stars I would!  I bought 2 stainless steel black sinks.  Within a month of installing them the finish started coming off.  Contacted Dave and he did nothing!  Pretty & expensive sinks but not worth the price, definitely not sanitary at all to have finish come off where you’re trying to watch dishes.  Completely unsafe!!!  Don’t buy these sinks!!

Six years ago we did make two custom sinks, but rather than black stainless steel as you stated, these were nickel silver, with an applied patina of Dark Nickel Silver. Nickel silver is a copper alloy that, like copper, changes with time and use. We don't offer a sink in black stainless steel.
> We do explain how our sinks have a living finish. We disclose it in the initial order paperwork which you signed, and next to the signature line on the drawing you approved - as well as in the care instructions that are included with the sink in shipment. We also put it both at the top of our web site's sinks page, as well as having a dedicated page to the living finish and how it works and why it is not effective to have a permanent seal on sink finishes. We would prefer that people are informed - we don't want to have someone purchase our sinks and be unhappy.
> When you contacted us, we explained, again, about the nature of the living finish and offered to send you a touch up kit which would have allowed you to re-apply color to the sink as well as advising you to use one of several waxes to mitigate this process. We did not hear a response to this offer, instead we heard from you asking if we could make you a sink with a Dark Nickel Silver apron and a Stainless Steel basin. We sent a quote for that. We will still send you a touch-up kit if you like.

**Q: wooden range hood** *(in Photo Questions)*

Hello, what is the distance from the range to the bottom of the actual wood hood supposed to be??  We have a 6 burner/griddle range top with the height from where range is to bottom of wood hood at 33 1/2 inches.   It looks low and massive!  Maybe I’m just not used to it, but I’m a bit nervous.  Thank you.

A: I'd be nervous too! we don't make range hoods out of wood; we use metal. This one pictured is copper in our Medium Copper finish. With a metal range hood, the bottom edge of the hood should be 30"-36" from the top of your range.

How tall are the ceilings in the kitchen?

A: As we recall (this photo was provided to us 8 years ago) the hood overall is about 6' in height. The ceiling is about 12' over the finished floor. Remember that customization of size, shape, finish, material, or design in general is possible as we make each product to order.

A: The bottom edge of the hood should be 30 inches to 36 inches from the top of your range.  
The width of the range hood should be at least the width of your range plus, ideally, 2 inches to 6 inches on either side.

A: Generally speaking, you'll want no more than 36' from the top of the cook top to the bottom of the range hood. It can go as low as 24" but 30 - 36" is ideal.
