A: railings are typically required when you have 3 or more risers, our railing was installed on the right side of the stairs going down (on the upper deck wall ) after this picture was taken (this was a long time ago) and doesn't impede any view. Railings only need to be on one side of stairs. People will take the railings off sometimes once they are signed off by the inspector and Elvis leaves the building. **Q: What size are the boards that you use for stairs?** *(in Photo Questions)* A: I don't recall the exact size of the boards on the steps themselves, the steps though are 6" risers with 14" treads. The boards are either 1 x 4 or 1 x 6's. The riser boards are likely 1 x 4's that are ripped lengthwise with a 1/4" gap in between. **Q: Software** *(in Photo Questions)* What design software is that? A: I use sketchup predominately for design work, mixed in with some photoshop too possible at some point. **Q: Board formed concrete?** *(in Photo Questions)* Who did this and the fence they're construction work is awesome. What kind of wood did you use?** *(in Photo Questions)* This is such a smart and beautiful redesign! Curious what kind of wood was used on the deck and fence? Also, what kind of footings were put in under the concrete planter? A: the new wood skin on the fence is clear cedar, the deck wood is dark red Meranti. The concrete planter has a pretty significant footing, the planter itself is 3'-6" wide x 7'-0" long, I believe the footing is roughly 5'-6" x 9' long x 12" deep. Hefty. **Q: We love the exterior paint color on the house. Do you know the color?** *(in Photo Questions)* A: I do not know, but I think it's buried in here somewhere because that question came up awhile back, look around the threads more.
