> I'll start with she charged me $25 just to write and mail me a refund check! I'm not talking about a summary of my charges (which she was going to charge me for), this was just to write a check. Other than that, if you want someone to argue with as your attempting to get what you want from a design instead of what she wants... this is your person. Oh, and the arguing is charged for! She had some great ideas, some of which we'll use, but others ideas weren't what we wanted and in fact were not technically accurate. The first contractor I talked to contradicted one of her major construction claims in seconds with an easily described method how to complete the task without removing my roof ( a point she argued extensively). Anyhow, I did get a drawing, without any summary of the cost and lots of contested discussion for $900. I wanted someone to present ideas. She did exactally that. What I didn't want was a 10 minute arguement every time I disagreed with one of the ideas.

You and Jo-Ellen hired me for my expertise and when I did my job to inform you of the poor decisions you were making, you decided you knew better than a degreed, experienced professional. How does that go over in your profession? I'm not sure what you qualify as arguing but apparently that means any time someone advises against your ideas. You understood and signed a contract stating that my time would be accounted for on an hourly basis. If you were looking for a 'budget' design, you found the wrong person. I did just as you asked and when you decided you didn't need me anymore (over the course of several emails), was I to just write off my time? I'm glad you chose to sever our contract because what you plan goes against my knowledge of practicality and aesthetics. Good luck finding a buyer for the diminished home you're planning and good riddance!

> We remodeled a home built in 1883 with help from Ronna Freeland.  Thanks to her creative design solutions, our contractor was able to build a master bathroom (incl. a shower and clawfoot tub) and laundry room on the upper floor and a mud room on the main floor while adding merely 600 square feet to the home. We are thrilled to gain a lot in little space. Ronna also designed a wrap around back porch that maintains the home's original character. The renovation was a great experience.

> We started out wanting to add a dinning room to our home and make our kitchen bigger, but we had obstacles in our way, a leach field from our septic, a room on the back our home that had a bump out to contend with. She listened to what we wanted and created us prints of what we were looking for. We were very pleased with her response timing and also her helpful hints/ideas to make do things more affordable. Although our plans didn't come to fruition due to the estimates we received back from contractor which the cost out weighted the cost of our home, we were very happy with the plans she created for us. Also the contactors were impressed with the how much detail she incorporated into her plans, it made it easy for them to bid the project.

> We found Ronna through this website; we don't know anyone who has used her for a full project.  Based only on Houzz, we liked what we saw and set up a consultation.   She did have some really good ideas. Unfortunately, however, we didn't ask about her terms until after we had spent two weeks trying to schedule a consultation, and hour and a half on a consultation, and paid her consultation fee.  After all that, when we tried to hire her she presented us with a contract that was amazingly one-sided, requiring a substantial down payment but completely insulating her from any liability for problems with her design or non-performance.  We asked her about modifying some of the language and she wasn't interested.  Bottom line: before you do a paid consultation with her (or anyone), ask about terms and take a look at the contract you'll be asked to sign.

> Of the handful of projects chosen not to pursue, I have no regrets. This doctor and contract-attorney wife who disagree with each other on the direction of their own project are no exception.
> My contract, created by an attorney due to one client's refusal to pay for services rendered, has been acceptable to others for 7 years. While my portfolio and positive reviews are available on Houzz, no such client radar is available.
> The small consultation fee hardly covered the time spent for the consultation, 1.5 hours of travel, proposal creation, and email responses to contract-alteration requests for a house which was already questionably altered from its original design.
> From the moment I would begin work, all previous alterations would become my responsibility and the burden placed on me to defend my work in court (against this attorney/client) with no recourse of my legal fees.
> To qualify the statement "When we tried to hire her" was after reviewing my contract and receiving my "really good ideas". Looks like someone got their money's worth, but needing to complain about my unwillingness to alter my contract for them in a public forum says more about them than me.
