The Old European Floors, Inc bid was in the middle but the most detailed and the only one that included the dust-free system as well as removing/reinstalling the toilet in the powder room. Adam and his wife started on time and finished on time even though a repair turned out to be a bigger area and requiring work on the sub-floor. The floor and new baseboards are BEAUTIFUL. The repaired area looks great and no longer squeaks! My only regret is that I did not take before, during, and after photos. Adam really knows what he is doing and obviously takes tremendous pride in his work. They also gave me tips on cleaning and maintaining the floor. Adam selected and installed new Brazilian tigerwood hardwood in the two bedrooms, transitioned new/old hardwood beautifully, and refinished the entire 1650 square feet with a darker, more contemporary stain that gave us brand new floors. You would not be able to tell that the flooring was installed 12 years apart, no easy feat. The work was done efficiently, promptly, with exquisite care and consideration to our needs. They did a great job and kept a very clean job site. Key for us as we were living in the house while this was going on. They also used a very low VOC finish that had hardly any odor as it dried. (We've lived through a project before where the flooring person used the "Swedish finish" and we had to move out of the house for a day until the off gassing settled down. We like natural or medium brown color but don't want too yellow or too red a brown color. What products are good? Source near us in Southcoast of Oregon. This 1920's house was built by the timber company and probably used wood right from their own mill. Karen and Hank A: Hello Karen, I would highly recommend professional Dura Seal stains and Bona Traffic HD satin finish. I have been using Bona finishes since 1985, and they have remained one of the best water-based finishes on the market. A very important thing is to hire an experienced contractor who knows how to sand and use stains and finishes on old Douglas Fir floors.
