> Jeff Haines was wonderful to work with. I had had an earlier major renovation done on my house 15 years ago and the only remaining element was to renovate the original basement which was cinder block, old linoleum, dark and dank. My goal was to renovate the basement so that it was fully integrated architecturally into the rest of the house and would present as simply another living level - not a basement. I could not be more happy with the results. Jeff quickly grasped the end result that I wanted to achieve and had helpful suggestions for achieving that. He (1) provided a superb design that included architectural elements from the first floor of the house so that the design flows seamlessly, (2) guided the general contractor selection process that resulted in an excellent choice, (3) participated in weekly meetings with me and the general contractor to review the job status, address open items, and respond to any questions that had arisen, (4) was a creative problem solver as we collaboratively worked through some unexpected issues that invariably arise in construction projects, (5) was organized, responsive and enthusiastic about the project and (6) did an excellent job of managing my expectations and addressing my questions and concerns. Jeff was a real pleasure to work with and I would use him without question on any future project.

**★★★★★ — John Crain, May 2019**

> A few years ago, my wife and decided it was time to renovate our 140-year old row house in DC's historic Capitol Hill. New to this type of work, including all of its surprising twists and turns, we had no idea at the time how lucky we were to have chosen Hains Architects. Not only did Jeff Hains produce exceptionally creative and builder-friendly (that's important) architectural drawings, listening to our needs all the way through the process, he also took many steps to ensure we were happy with the final outcome. Jeff took us on tours of several of his active and completed projects, introduced us to top-tier builders (one of whom we chose with outstanding results), managed all of our initial permitting, zoning, and historical society requests and interactions, referred cabinetry shops, engaged engineers and lighting specialists when needed, supported the builders in real-time, and provided interior design and color advice. Speaking with our builder, as well as friends and neighbors who had embarked upon similar renovations, we were surprised to learn how often architectural plans fail to reach a level of specificity and accuracy to make them usable without constant interpretation and improvisation in the field. Definitely not the case with Hains Architects' plans; they withstood all of the challenges a Civil-War-era home could muster. Five years after completing our renovation, we still are delighted with the beautiful architectural elements, welcoming design flow, and insightful recommendations that Jeff brought to our home. Enthusiastically recommended.

**★★★★★ — Bill and Debbie M, March 2019**

> Jeff Haines designed our fabulous home addition. His work is top-notch, and he is a lovely human being. With all the time you're going to spend with your architect, it's great to enjoy that person's company, and Jeff is friendly, affable, kind, even-keeled, wise, and fun. We genuinely enjoyed our time working with him. In terms of his talents, he can't be beat. He has a true flare for small details that make the difference between a fine project and an outstanding one. Jeff is an excellent listener. He really heard our needs and goals, and presented several options to get us there. He respected our choices, and was never pushy with his own views (and yet was willing to offer his wise advice whenever we asked.) He was incredibly patient when we needed time to think about our choices. Jeff has been the architect for many houses in our neighborhood, and without a doubt, they are the nicest home additions around.

**★★★★★ — Jenn Geetter, July 2017**

> Jeff is a terrific visionary -- he is a wonderful listener and makes sure that the project reflects what the client wants, not what he wants. His artistry, creativity and ingenuity is put to the service of figuring out what is best for the client and their needs. He is very patient and great helping families find the right solution for them. He is a terrific advocate with contractors and helps keep projects on schedule.
