He ran electrical lines to a shop and horse barn. He also built a fantastic, very large porch from ground up including all planning, designing, supply buying and electrical work. It's beautiful and everyone that sees it comments on how lovely it looks. Bryan thinks of the extra small touches that adds flare to any project he is working on. He did a wonderful job and I would highly recommend him for any project that you need completed. And not in a good way.** *(in Design Dilemma)* The exterior of this house is just not working for us. Please help with curb appeal! The siding is a pale yellow vinyl. I want to change the shutters at a minimum as they were last done in the 8th when yellow and Wedgewood blue were hot. The bed along the house is 5 ft wide and faces North in southeastern Pennsylvania. It gets little light most times of the year. In fact, the petunias are just now blooming. I am open to any and all suggestions! A: needs some natural wood to complement the stone. cedar is nice , if you stain or seal it to prevent it from fading.oh, and lose the white trim. it also detracts from the natural stone. again, wood trim. Personally I don't like flag poles close to the house. Put it in the yard where it looks like you mean it. **Q: DESIGN DILEMMA: Bathroom backsplash ideas?** *(in Design Dilemma)* When you are preparing to renovate or purchase a new home, what key features are you looking for in your bathroom backsplash? A: no personality in any of them, really.very sterile **Q: Minimal Traditional curb appeal help!** *(in Design Dilemma)* We just bought what I would describe as a Minimal Traditional 1948 house, with vinyl siding, "stone" veneer, cheap single hung vinyl windows, slightly uninspiring color scheme (not to mention all the fun stuff on the inside!).... but we are so excited! :) Thoughts on colors? High desert CA in the eastern Sierra, with high/low temps seasonally; those Cottonwoods give a nice pop of color in the warmer months, but will drop their leaves. And the lawn is currently dead dead dead, though I want to get more colors/textures/depth into the yard -- but that can wait until spring. The front and side exterior doors will need to be replaced, they're in really poor shape. I'm not sure either are original to the house, but I especially find the front door a bit imposing... we've taken out the ramp, and removed the extra wood lining the doorway. What would be appropriate for the historical period/ work with the stone and windows? Any other observations/suggestions? Help! A: Please don't paint the stone! I've seen it done, and it was awful! do, however ,replace the siding. There are no mature trees in our yard, so shade is dire during the summer. I've ruled out vines since we plan on expanding the hardscaping. Instead, we're considering: 1\. A company that offers individual Sunbrella awnings between the rafters that open and close manually. 2\. A company that installs a continual Sunbrella fabric on top. 3\. polycarbonate panels on top. We live in the northeast so winter snow is a factor. Anyone have personal experience with any of these options? Pros/cons? Hoping for feedback from pergola owners! Thanks so much. A: There's a company that makes coverings very similar to window blinds that open and close the same way blinds do. They even interlock when closed to keep rain and snow out. **Q: Need ideas on how to update the exterior of my home** *(in Design Dilemma)* I feel the gable and porch molding look outdated. looking for ideas on how to update. I am tired to the Victorian look but can only afford to update on a modest budget. please help with affordable current ideas. A: i would simply strip the pieces down to bare wood and stain them .maybe add some stone details , such as a stone wall around the base of the porch in place of the lattice . then, maybe choose a darker paint for the exterior. **Q: Please Help ASAP with Decision...** *(in Design Dilemma)* Hi, we just put in new Crema Bordeaux granite countertops. I picked out the granite and my husband picked out a subway tile backsplash. The tile guy came this morning to put it in but 1/4 of the way through the jib I asked him to stop because I think it looks terrible. I REALLY need opinions...it still has to be grouted but my husband likes it. I think it's WAY too busy and takes away fromthe beauty of the granite.
